Photoshop Elements OS X?

An industry insider confirmed to Think Secret that Photoshop Elements will ship for the next-generation operating system.

It will be interesting to see how Elements competes with iPhoto.
Elements was always designed as OEM software bundled with digicams and scanners. Now that Apple has their own FREE software that does similar things, how successful will Elements be?

Actually, I don't think Elements and iPhoto really compete... in fact, Elements would be the perfect addition to iPhoto... in that you can get iPhoto to open your images in another application.

I thought Elements had built in commands like red-eye reduction and simpler cropping tools like iPhoto, or am I confusing it with Photoshop LE?

iPhoto is about organizing photos, Photoshop Elements is about retouching photos - true they have some of the same features, but they are really different applications.

I'd be really happy to see an OS X version of Photoshop Elements - currently it is the only application I require Classic mode for. And while it generally runs fine, it sure would be nice to have it run native. The healing brush in 7 also seems like a tool esp. useful for the non-professional crowd, but then of course Elements can't have all the features of Photoshop 7.

I'd also like to see more enhancements to iPhoto - similar products like Epson Film Factory (OS 9 or Windows) provided color adjustment and auto-correction features in a non-destructive manner. An auto-correction feature was good for tweaking a large number photos without too much effort. Then if you want to do anything special, you open it with Photoshop Elements instead.

Of course with the file browser (improved in 7 over PS Elements) and TWAIN support, I could see myself using PS Elements for OS X over iPhoto all the time.

If you have a digital camera, you need PS Elements. It can still be had for $79 with a $30 mail in rebate from Buy.com.

Elements is the newer version of PS Lite. Also, Elements currently ships for both Windows and Mac in the same box. It is nice to be able the edit my photos at work (on lunch break!) with the Windows version.

Elements red eye reduction tool is supurb, much better than iPhoto. It also does color correction, can use filters, crop and tons of other stuff.

It would be great to see Elements on X.

While I agree with you all that PS Elements is more advanced than iPhoto, my original assertion was that I'm not sure if consumers will see the value of it. I think basic red eye reduction, cropping, rotating and converting to black and white will be as far as most people want to go with their photos. If they have an app that's free that does all this I'm not sure they will want to go out and spend $100 on another program, even if it's better. Keep in mind I'm talking about the general population here.
It's easy for the technically proficient among us to say that program X is great, but if the consumer doesn't see the value they're not going to buy it.

After all, we all agree that Macs are far superior to PCs, but the majority of consumers still buy PCs. :rolleyes:

I would *love* to see Elements for X, especially 'cause it's just $49 for students. It really does do a lot more than the free crapware that comes with most cameras, and it respects the user enough not to move your files all over damnation like iPhoto does. I think that, so far, Elements is the best equivalent to Jasc's Paint Shop Pro for Windows. It basically has slimmed down versions of all of Photoshop's features, including the ever-popular Liquefy [<-- is that spelled right? it's what cocoa via omniweb came up with, but it looks weird]. I will definitely be waiting to see if it materializes before plunking down money for the full Photoshop. Yay :D

I would love to get Elements X - unless iPhoto 2 (? - maybe released at MW Tokyo?) offers such niceties as colour correction, blemish removal and a better viewing resolution (currently, the zoom feature bites)...

PE does more than just red-eye fixes -- it does much of what PS does, minus a pen tool, channels, and a few other things. As a consequence, trying to duplicate some of the neat things from MacDesign magazine drives me nuts, so I think I'll wait for a PE to PS7 upgrade (rumored from somewhere, though I know not where).

I'm a hotline/limewire surfer and no I haven't seen any betas surfaced
It doesn't really bother me thats it not aslong as Photoshop come I was happy
But I'll let you know if there are any betas out there

Sweet. I'd love to be able to justify Photoshop to myself, but I just can't. I'm hoping Elements comes out before my budget alllows me to purchase Photshop, or else my will might weaken. Keep me posted. :D

PS Elements comes free with many scanners (came with my Epson). I am waiting to be able to afford to get PS7 as well as see if it will take scanner plugins like version 6 did. I will need it mostly for scanning and minor touch-ups of the images I scan. Not too much of a task though.
