iPoding.com posted (http://www.ipoding.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=260&mode=thread&order=0) images demonstrating extra features on the iPod. For those without an iPod this reader post (http://www.ipoding.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=NS-Comments&file=index&req=showreply&tid=498&sid=260&pid=497&mode=thread&order=0&thold=#498) reveals the significance:
The big deal is that the iPod is displaying the track elapsed AND track remaining times SIMULTANEOUSLY. Very interesting...
Source of images unclear... fake? hack? or pre-release?

Even if it is "just a hack"... it's still significant... not sure how can blow it off if you truly believe someone managed to recode part of the iPod firmware.

Maybe someone got into the Pixo OS that runs the iPod?
Is that possible to do through the firewire?

Not to trivialize the recoding of firmware. But who really needs this. Personally, I look at the screen of my iPod only a couple of time each use. Steps:
1. Hit center button to get screen on.
2. Find the artist/album or playlist I want.
3. Hit the play button.
4. Put iPod in pocket.
After that, I can navigate my playlist without the use of my eyes. I just put my thumb in my coat pocket and press buttons. What I *really* want is a EQ. For me, it would make this the perfect mp3 player. Its soooooo close as it is.

Who really cares to see that crap? I think they should make a little bit clearer screeen, and an EQ in it.

Well, presumably - it's:
1) Photoshop-ed/faked. Then... who cares.
2) Prerelease Firmware... which means new updates coming.
3) Hacked Firmware. The response to this shouldn't be "who needs this" - but "if they can hack this, then they can do anything else they want... ie. make organlizer functionality, more games etc...".. or people can write their own equalizer.
To Mac_User:
Again... who cares about this functionality - the potential is the interesting part... open your mind... don't be so short-sighted.

im wondering if they got a hold of some developer tools. i had a guy who used to come to my server a lot come by looking for ipod developer tools. a few weeks later he came by and when i asked him about it he said he had "a friend" hook him up with it but he didnt want to upload it. so stuff is out there for people to play with the ipod software. anyone out there have or know someone who has the ipod dev tools?

The firmware isn't hacked through firewire it can be found in the iPod updates by showing package contents

it wouldn't surprise me if someone did hack it like this....there are some incredibly smart people out there....and lots with what seems to be endless amounts of time on their hands....he he he...

What people have been missing is that it's playing music while charging. That's a lot bigger than how much is left and how far in it is. Now I am not sure whether or not you can play music while it is charging with the firewire/poewr adapter, but I'm pretty sure that you can't. I personally think this is real, but can all make your own decision.

If you set iTunes (and hence the iPod) to mount on the desktop, you can play the contents of the iPod through iTunes, the practical outcome of which is that it charges while it's playing. However, the display only shows the FireWire symbol when you do it this way.. so this is different behaviour than it's showing in the iPoding.com photos.

Playing whilst charging is not new.
If you are charging from your macs power, it plays via iTunes and only displays the firewire logo.
However, charging with the power adapter allows normal playback via the headphone jack and the normal on-screen display.

Can anybody say "spymac" I hope these aren't faked, but if they "pull" the graphics, ipoding.com may go the same way as spymac

I bet the new iPod will be like a semi shiney/dull silver. Not real bright, kind of like...a gray. 10GB HD, and a built in EQ, now were talking!
