Adobe has announced that Creative Suite 3 (http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-462641-10424503) (CS3) Design and Web editions have begun shipping.

Also shipping are the following individual products: Photoshop CS3, Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, Adobe InDesign CS3, Adobe Illustrator CS3, Adobe Flash CS3 Professional, Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, Adobe Fireworks CS3 and Adobe Contribute CS3.

Adobe's Creative Suite Production and Master Collection are not yet shipping as they await final releases of Adobe After Effects CS3 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. Both After Effects and Premiere Pro were released as public betas today from Adobe Labs website (http://labs.adobe.com/) and can be downloaded now.

We've previously compiled an upgrade chart (http://www.macrumors.com/2007/03/27/adobe-creative-suite-3-announced/) for owners of earlier versions of Adobe's applications.

What if you upgrade from an Acedemic version like Studio MX? Do you have to buy the whole Acedemic version, or can you upgrade to a full non-academic? Or can you not upgrade at all?

MacPro + Adobe CS3 UB + Leopard

Leopard is the only missing piece now... THEN the transition will be (really) completed and we'll finally get back to work, huh? :p

Gotta keep on putting my pennies away to buy this, since Leopard won't be shipping until sometime later possibly by the perhaps end of year. :D

I'm trying to get the buy and download option from their store, but it's down.

Great move on release day.

Edit: It's back up. But since I've got EDU discount I've got to wait a day for them to look at my transcript and ID that I had to send them to prove I'm a student.

The UK Adobe shop just told me they were shipping tomorrow as far as she knew, but she couldn't tell me whether all suppliers would be doing that or just Adobe themselves

Cool. Here's hoping that Amazon will start shipping, too. They were quite quick with sending out LightRoom.

I've got a call out with Adobe on that very question.

I have the student/teacher edition of Studio 8, and want to upgrade to the full (non-academic) Design Premium CS3.

I'm fairly sure the answer is yes, but I just want written confirmation from Adobe.

On a side note - is Amazon the cheapest place in the UK to order CS3 Design Premium upgrade from? It's fifty odd quid less than Adobe.

Had a similar plan but need to spread out my purchases.

Was waiting for leopard but can't wait until october to buy a new machine.

Guess I'll give it another month or 2 max before I buy a MacPro

It was certainly the cheapest place to order a full copy of PS Standard; I haven't checked, but I'm guessing they'll be cheaper for the upgrades, too. They are currently the cheapest place to buy lightroom, too.

Trying to figure that out myself...

In reference to the academic upgrade it works like this according to the folks I spoke with when I upgraded over the phone last week. I purchased CS 2.3 Premium from our student store where I work. Called Adobe and wanted the free upgrade to Design Premium CS3. Was told no problem and the upgrade would be the commercial version because there is no academic upgrade. So if you upgrade your edu version you wind up with the commercial version.:D

I'm pretty sure there is no upgrade path for the academic version. If you still qualify, you can get the academic price on the next edition, but that's it.

Update: Wow, failsafe, if that's true, that's an amazing deal. I might actually consider it. I got Macromedia MX many years ago for $299, and now I could upgrade to CS web premium for $499 -- that's $800 for a $1600 product.

Update2: actually that's the same as the academic price, so it makes some sense.

In Norway the CS3 webpremium package cost the double.
Adobe and quark sayes this is because of rules and taxes, but I know thats wrong. Its because they will try to get that much for it. The same folks that sets the prices also complaining that Norway is among the worst in software piracy. I think the crazy pricing is one of the reasons.

According to the FAQ's on the Adobe site. There is a statement from Adobe that says you can upgrade the edu versions with no problem. The deal I did was the post announce upgrade policy that says if you purchase current product from March to August then you qualify for a free upgrade. I don't think you can qualify for a free upgrade with your stuff but you can purchase an upgrade for it and it should be the commercial version after you upgrade. Sorry for the confusion.

I just got off the phone with Adobe UK to ask when my prouct would be shipping and I got this information from them.

All available full price downloads are available (since Monday) for download.

All available full price boxed products will be shipping nearer the end of April

All available Student Price products won't ship until June 2nd - and that includes Student downloads too.

So that's me having to wait another month and a half! Dang.

A few questions if anyone knows:

Do the apple stores stock the educational versions and do they have them in stock at this time?

Can anyone confirm that the actual apple store price for the Web Premium Edu versions is indeed $100 more than if you purchased it from Adobe directly? Or is this a misprint on Apple's store website?

Going to try and pick this up on the way home if I can get the edu version from the apple store...

I don't understand why the student packages are scheduled to ship so much later than the rest. As far as I'm aware the only difference is the licensing agreement so why it takes a month extra to ship I just don't know. I've had my education order approved so am now in the waiting process, I was really hoping it would ship in time to arrive with my new mac but alas not to be :(

Actually, I bought CS3 design Premium yesterday, and it was available as a nice little 2.9G download. It makes my MacBook feel like a new computer. It's so nice to be using Photoshop at decent speeds again...

other than the intel native speed, the upgrade is a little "meh". The UI improvements are probably my favorite thing so far. Refine edge is a cool idea, but I haven't really figured it out yet.

Ay, right... not on my student loan thanks.

As for student boxes, I don't know why it's shipping so much later. Maybe it's only UK-specific? I know that the commercial versions have top priority, but shipping it a month later is just ridiculous.

Total speculation on my part, but it may be to foil commercial users who might have got the edu version somehow if it were available now. It also may be an intentional move to not ship edu versions before the end of the schoolyear to avoid making school sellers have to deal with it at an awkward time. I can imagine a student getting it in the middle of a final project and running into a compatibility problem or other issue and not being able to finish.

Heard back from Adobe. You CAN upgrade from edu to full retail, BUT you can't just buy the Upgrade box - you have to contact Adobe and give them your details, inc. serial number and proof of purchase of the original box.

This is highly annoying as it's 18 months since I bought my edu version and no longer have the receipt, although I registered my copy of Studio 8 as soon as I got it back in November 2005.

I also need new web authoring package and am currently testing Dreamweaver and MS Expression Web which is supposedly their DW killer, they wish. (Its Dreamweaver 8 as there is (or was) no demo of CS.)

This is an honest account as I just want software to use to update our website. I have a PC and my imac so lots of options.

The Dreamweaver demo was very easy to download (literally took 5 minutes)and DW is so intuitive to use, its easy to add CSS layers, DIV's etc. I have it running on my mac with no problems. The MS one was a nightmare to even download. I had to sign up for a Passport account, then the confirmation email wouldn't come through until I used my Gmail account to get the confirmation email (after trying three of our business emails), then I had to download ASP server and when I eventually came to try (after an hour at least)it it took me 30 minutes to even get a page to open. Awful and obviously a poor imitation of Dreamweaver. It MAY be good but it wore my patience so much I have lost interest in it. I will never touch it again. When I can get Dreamweaver CS after the 22 days left of my demo finish I am buying it even if I can use MS Expression FREE for 60 odd days. The more I use MS stuff the more I dislike their software. I hope DW CS is as easy to use as DW 8.
