I'm really new to the Mac scene, and I greatly appreciate all the patience and answers I get from the Mac community.
I have a quick question
If I were to invest in the 3 years extended warranty for roughly $250 what would that cover? If something were to happen to it, such as it breaks, would they cover it?
Or, is it just phone service?
Thanks.

Have you checked the AppleCare site (http://www.apple.com/support/products/)?

You probably know this already, but I want to clarify since there are alot of people who misunderstand AppleCare.
"such as it breaks" could mean mainly two different things, one being it breaking from accidential damage and the other being it breaking/having hardware/defect problems. AppleCare is not insurance so it does not cover if you/someone drops your machine or things of that nature. However if your machine in two years has a screen failure, optical drive failure or something of the sort AppleCare should cover this.
