Here's the skinny, "Evil".

After the second one it DOESN"T MATTER, captian!it takes far more than just one to remove the taste of pure ****. once again, beer is for pussies. give me my liquor in as concentrated of a form as possible, if you want a watered down beverage, there is always coke

guiness as well as black & tan's are your friend.

good sipping tequila, vodka, even a little JD will put a little hair on your chest. for all you metrosexuals, this could be a bad thing (as you will require increased shaving :P).

I'm like the only 13 year old I know who has never sipped beer before!

I really want to say "Samuel L. Jackson Beer", since I just got Chappelle's Show DVD!

"I'M SAMUEL L. JACKSON! ITS MY BEER! THIS IS HOW I TALK! HAVEN'T YOU SEEN MY MOVIES!? MMMMMM MMMMMMMM BITCH! YES THEY DESERVED TO DIE! AND I HOPE THEY BURN IN HELL!"

Ahh, Dave Chappelle's a genious.

Duff-Man says...tonight I had a locally brewed (according to purity standards) Swan's Raspberry Ale...strong ale - 8% or so...very tasty...not my favourite beer (I prefer a good Weizenbier, like EKU) but still a nice treat....oh yeah!

during the summer, Bell's Oberon is a great beer. it's brewed somewhere in Michigan, Kalamazoo, I think...

Yeah, I live about an hour from K-Zoo and the Bell's brewery. Good beer, and Oberon is definitely my favorite, with a lemon or orange slice on the side. They also have a very good amber ale and a nut brown ale.

There's also the Michigan Brewing Co. near by, which makes some damn good brews.

After Bells and MBC, Sierra Nevada tops my list, and Fat Tire, which I can't get here unfortunately (it's a Western states beer). Anchor Steam is also a good sipping beer.

Anchor Steam (any one got a clue where I can buy it in London? i know a couple of bars that sell it for consumption on premises)

Happily since this thread was last alive in September, my local Waitrose have expanded their Californian beer range to include Anchor Steam. I can now happily pick up a few bottles when I go in for my weekly shop. And since I'm a little thirsty and it's quite warm, I may go and pull one of them out of the fridge now. :D

Albani Julebryg - it's a Danish beer that they only make at Christmas mmmm. i used to go nuts for that. Here I like Chimay Bleu, a very dark, very strong Belgian Trappist beer.

This thread is making me so thirsty.

I agree with desknap, PBR is awesome. And I like all these beers of actual quality of course, but I will always have a place in my heart for beers like Shlitz, Hamms, Olympia, Old Milwaukee, etc. $6 12 packs are gonna get me through summer.

Lager: Jupiler, the best belgian soft-beer.
Beer: Duvel (there are just to many strong beers to chose from, a classic that always works).
Although i do prefer wine, except after some physical activity, nothing can beat a pint there.

does Duvel taste harsh, since its 8.5%? or is it more of an easy drinking but with a higher count?

Wouldn't say it tastes harsh, more round and heavy, not really easy drinking (at least not until you reached the fourth ;)), ideal for enjoying those sunny sunday afternoons.

Young's Double Chocolate Stout

interesting, just went to beeradvocate.com to check to see how people like it, good ratings over all. my girlfriend is trying to get into beer, (we jsut got her off wine coolers) would this be a good beer for the stransition? so far she kinda likes pete's strawberry blonde and pyramid's apricot ale (i like those to but fruit beers are only good on certian occasions as far as i am concerned)

Its probably a little heavy for alot of tastes, about as heavy as Guinness. I find that beer newbies are much more likely to enjoy light beers, such as a good Belgian white.

Double Stout is probably a bit much if you're going from fruit beers and blonds. Work her up through the colours - amber ales next and then onto the darker ones. Anchor Steam is a good mainstream amber ale that's not overly strong or gassy. Or a Sleeman's Honey Brown - honey brown is the colour, not the flavour.

Have you got a good microbrewery near you? If so, go in there with her, order the sampler and let her try a few different ones out.

Just be sure to always leave the 'fond' in the bottle, unless you are constipated...
As for a close comparison, sry, no idea. I'd like to say there is none ;).

Dunno, got mine here in France ;)
But considiring it's already very hard to find here (I haven't had it that often), you'll probably have a lot of trouble finding it in the States...
