so tempting to pick a really strange beer that you won't know...isn't it a bit pretentious for you to say you can rate someone based on their preferences when you odn't even indicate what your favorite beer is and what it means? I'm 17 so I can't be too picky.... i have to drink whats around....especially since i avoid buying...

I'm somewhere in between, although I love milk. I don't drink beer though, or any alcohol for that matter. I've never really had the urge to drink, and most of my friends don't drink. If they do anything, they smoke weed. I don't do anything like that though. Don't plan to, but it could happen.

But to add something else about beer:
Am I the only one annoyed by 'sammy-lights'? That is such a corny and stupid name.

I hope nobody actually calls them that...

I really don't have one FAVORITE beer, so here's my list-

Guiness (Liquid bread)
Guiness Extra Stout (Liquid bakery)
Sam Adams Boston Lager
Sam Adams Summe Ale
Pilsner Urquell (From Plzen, Czech)
Carlsberg
Single-Chair Ale

Out of all of those, I guess I enjoy the Copenhagen brew Carlsberg the most, but you can't stay with one kind of beer, you know?

On top of those, I also like-

Labatt
Saranac Pilsner (brewed not too from here)
Anything Ithaca Beer Co. (Brewed 10 miles from my house)
Tsingtao (Chinese... real good and SARS free)
Rolling Rock
Sam Adams Winter/Spring Ale
Heineken
Corona
**AND**
Most Microbrews

Contrary to the length of my list, I'm not an alcoholic. I generally grab a six pack of a different beer each week, and that's how I've made a decent sized list. Can't stay confined to one beer too long, it gets boring. But hey, I'll drink anything on either list gladly.

So evil, how's my list add up?

- sierra nevada pale ale
- sam smith oatmeal stout
- pilsner urquell (at the brewery, bottles are often skunked)
- guinness on tap (it _is_ better in dublin)
- goose island ordinary bitter
- aecht schlenkerla rauchbier (smoked beer)
- ayinger altbairisch dunkel (w/ sausages, in aying!)
- ceske budejovice (budvar) -- the definition of pilsner, get it in the czech republic on tap

I must say the best beer out there is

I don't think PBR qualifies as a beer, coors sucks ass , and I'm sure someone is going to bring up the yellow piss water from Mexico. Ah well, I'm probably not making friends,

If I want to get drunk quickly and have a laugh then I'll usually drink Stella Artois.

If I am going out for a long session (drinking all day) then something a bit weaker like Fosters or Carling is better in the interests of self preservation.

If I fancy something tasty, I'll try the local real ale from wherever I am. Some that I quite like are:
Hooky (Hook Norton brewery)
Batemans
Fullers London Pride
Smiles Best
Castle Eden

I used to work in an old pub (~500 years!) owned by the Donnington Brewery. I didn't like the Donnington beer (BB or SB) very much which was a shame.

If I have had so much beer that I feel totally full and drunk (>12 pints?) then I sometimes drink alcopops for fun. I have a sweet tooth and like cranberry bacardi breezers, WKD, smirnoff ice etc..

Just kidding, although I prefer a soda (more specifically Dr. Pepper) to a beer, Gorden Beirsch Pilsner was the last one I drank. I've also had Negro Modello a couple times with Mexican food.

Is that one of those all day things where you reach a steady state as your drinking rate matches your liver and you don't get any more drunk? TBH all the alcopops taste waaaay too sweet to me regardless of how dead my taste buds are. But Pimms and Lemonade...now you're talking... It's a girlie drink but I like it;)

Chimay is my favorite but it's expensive - it's an occasional treat.

In San Francisco I went to the Marin Brewing Company in Larkspur which has amazing beer. In some convenience store out there I got Alley Cat Ale which was great! And cheap! SF has good beer.

At bars around here I get Guinness or Newcastle.

Sammy Smith was the post concert beer at summer shows.

But with all that I prefer a good red wine :D

during the summer, Bell's Oberon is a great beer. it's brewed somewhere in Michigan, Kalamazoo, I think...

pilsner urquell i had in prague for ~50 cents a pint was excellent. not quite the same imported, unfortunately...

i am into wine tasting and that is something i have heard of a lot when people first try red wine, but beer?

the one type of beer i know which can do that is really low grade malt liquor...but even high end beers, which are strong like, eku 28 hell bier can also do that

but rolling rock is a rather mild beer and compared to coors or budweiser, it's a much better beer in that price range (though sometimes rolling rock can be priced much higher than coors or budweiser in some stores)

Anchor Steam. Local San Francisco brew. I know its available in the pacific northwest too, but I don't know abuot the rest of the country. Anchor also makes Liberty Ale which is quite good, but the steam is really unique and the most refreshing, smooth beer I know.

Fat Tire is pretty good too.

Among more major beers, guiness and bass (black and tan) and redhook (ESB or IPA are both great and very distinctive).

many of the beers mentioned are not available here in ontario.
the sale of beer is regulated by the government and you have to go to "the beer store", or to the lcbo, to get beer. sooo. if the beers not there youre not gonna get it anywhere.
i find it rather nice that most of the beer drinkers here support local brewed stuff.
of all the beer i drink i think only one kind is not brewed in ontario.

a while back, in April, i hosted a "light" beer party... my friends judged the following beers:

natural light, coors light, miller ice lite, miller lite, bud light, milwaukee's best light, busch light, keystone light, labatt blue light and josef hoffbauer light.

15+ people voted blind and the hands down winner of the "worst light beer" title was josef hoffbauer light. i don't know where this beer came from but it was on sale at a local grocery store. it was the worst tasting beer i've ever had. take coors light (my personal least favorite), dilute it and add some stinky stuff... yuck. made the frat-house-common-floor-the-sunday-morning-after-the-homecoming-weekend smell wonderful in comparison.

well now you're just being silly.

here's a review of Mickey's from beeradvocate.com

Corn syrup sweetness on the nose, mixed with an increasing buttery sensation.
The same corn syrup shows up right away in the taste. Sticky and artificial tasting. Seltzer water-like carbonation scrapes the mouth clean of the cloying sweetness, but is annoying in its own right. Turns grainy toward the middle. Buttery and vegetal tones rise gradually throughout. Turns sweeter again at the finish with a (cheap) vodka & tonic alcohol flavor.
Artificially high carbonation, but once it begins to settle, this becomes totally undrinkable.
Unredeemable, even for malt liquor.

It is ALL ABOUT the PBR.

But anyway...

My favs that I have to go buy:
Harp
Guiness
Pacifico
Coors Light/High Life
Anchor Steam
Beamish!!

But, I homebrew which means unless I'm eating out I don't have to buy much beer.

The best batch that we've done so-far is called "Phat-Buzz" and it is an Irish Stout (like a Murphies" with a considerable amount of light-roast coffee added to the cooling wort (unfermented beer).

This results in a sweet, thick , DARK beer with a strong coffee flavor and about 100Mg of Caffine per 12oz serving.

At about 6-7% Alcohal by volume after a couple of bottles your "phat-buzzing" from the caffine and the alcohal.

We are just about to bottle our attmpt to one-up the Sam Adams summer ale. We took a traditonal Weizen recipe and added some stonger hops and dried lemon peel to the wort. So, hopefully it will turn out!

We have also done an Anchor Steam clone that came out very good. The body and color of the beer are SPOT ON it is just stonger and MUCH more hoppy.

Anybody else home-brew?

i like the idea of adding lemon peel to the wort. hope it turns out well for you.

hmmm... i disagree. beer tends to look really good, like it would be tasty. i've only had beer twice, myself, though, and i utterly hated it both times. i tried one in Prague, so it wasn't some cheap american beer. hated that. also tried a guinness from a can. none of that. But as zim says, beer has a LOT of variety. those beers tasted completely different. so i can't categorically condemn beer.

those aren't real beers. they've got rice adjuncts to lighten the flavor. and real beer doesn't have rice!

start off w/ a nice spiced beer, like sierra nevada christmas ale (it's out of season now, though). or a nice weiss beer, maybe w/ a lemon slice (try paulaner).

or if you can find it, a goose island honkers ale. it's got a butterscotch note to it.

Hey, evil -- how was your head when you woke up? :)

Thanks for starting this thread -- there have been some great suggestions.

I wonder if anyone else out there has tried beers made by a little brewery in Quebec called Unibroue.

I've had "Maudite" (loose translation: "Goddamn!") and "Fin de Monde" (translation: "The End of the World"). They're fermented in the bottle and are 8% alcohol. I think two bottles would effectively kill a Coors Light drinker. A six-pack of Fin de Monde would really feel like the End of the World.

Oh yeah: they only sell their beer in quart bottles.

Paulaner is a very good choice (especially in a beergarden (do people say that??? = Biergarten) during spring and summer...)

...but for God's sake, leave out the lemon!!! the only Weissbier/weiss beer flavor with which you use a lemon slice is the clear one (we call it Kristallweizen = crystal weiss beer), NEVER put it in the standard weiss beer...

my favorite weiss beers are Schneiders, Paulaner and Kapuziner... always comes in tall 1/2 liter glasses YUM

but, if you sit in the sun during the beergarden season and each one drinks four 1/2 liters, you will feel A) pretty dizzy and B) like you have eaten a huge loaf of bread *burp*

Oh, Uebergeek, you might also try a nice drafted Beck's (I don't know if you can get other than bottled outside Germany  )... so fresh, so tasty, so ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... :D

I don't like chardonay at all, at least none of the one's i've tried. I much prefer red wines overall, cabernet being by favorite type, though there's lot more left to try. Problem with wine is that unless you go to a specialty shop, its hard to know whats good, there's so many of them. Beer is a lot easier to get a handle on for the casual drinker.

I noticed someone mentioned PBR (pabst blue ribbon). If I'm gonna drink a crappy beer, its gonna be PBR (voted america's best beer in 1898), and if its just to get drunk with broke friends, Milwaukee's best will do. Ranier is another drinkable, but crappy beer.

Most of the time I'll stick to the British Beer, non-pretentious micro brews and Anchor Steam though.

i agree. it's normal in the states to add lemon to a weissbier, but i prefer it without (which is why i said "maybe"). plus, for a new drinker, it may ease the transition to better beers.

hobgoblin stuff is great

as far as lagers go, i generally like the asian ones like Tiger or Asahi

when i was at high school i was crowned the drunken master and king of cheap beers - my best find was this dodgy european stuff called Grafen Walder that was about 15p a can. Bleuch.

Current least favourite is South African Guiness: proper manky! There's loads of cool bars where i leave (Reading, uk) that do some weird stuff, like this Hemp flavoured beer - that was weird. Anyone in/near Reading should check out:

99% of American beer companies suck. Yes, Budweiser sucks, but they have the European Budweiser (the original Budweiser), "Budvar", is way better than American Budweiser. It still isn't good, though. ;)

To everyone who said Pilsener Urquell, Anchor Steam Beer, Staropramen (only one guy!!!), and Höegaarden: Good job. :D

- Anchor Steam (only good American beer....no, really)
- Staropramen
- Pilsener Urquell (its okay)
- John Smith's Extra Smooth
- Caffreys
- Höegaarden (only once in a while)
- Boddington's
- Alexander Keiths India Pale Ale (worst India Pale Ale ever!!!, but if you classify it and compare it to lagers, its great ;))

Well the only way you could say that %99 of American Beers suck is if you haven't ever visited the Pacific NW and specifically Oregon. Oregon is the beer brewing capital of the US and does in fact rival Germany for the quantity of micro-breweries and the quality of beer. Oregon alone has over 150 established micro-breweries that from what I have tried of them none are bad. Yes probably 99% of American beer sucks if you go by quantity sold but when you go by breweries America has a lot of good breweries and most of them are between San Francisco and Seattle.

Not to start an argument but a Corona with a lime is just the thing sometimes on a hot summer day after hard work.

Yep, have done for about 5 years. I brew from grain and hops (as opposed to extract). I tend to stick to Ales as I don't have proper refrigeration to do lagers properly. I tend to brew at around 6% ABV as I can't see the point in brewing at 4% when it takes the same amount of time to do it. I've started brewing 'old-beers' like what they used to make in the 1800's like original IPAs and porters. They need a long maturation though as the massive hop rates in them would take the skin off your teeth otherwise.

We've done everything trying to get him help and help him ourselves but his family won't commit him so there's really nothing we can do just so you know that we've tried. Wintermute, why would you kill for a beer? If you don't normally drink, I don't see why you would have the cravings. I don't drink, and I never get cravings. (Well for alcohol. I have a sweet tooth when it comes to drowning my sorrows. :))

Cos it's an enforced choice, I didn't stop drinking cos I wanted to, I realy HAD to, I enjoyed a drink, I liked being drunk (to the point wher I start trying to kill people obviously:( ) but it was a no-brainer, as the judge said, stop drinking or spend the rest of your life in jail.

I think a lot of people are intolerent of alcohol in a big way, but you get happy drunks and mean drunks and fall over drunks etc. It's a metabolic poison after all...

I know a few folks who would benefit from not drinking at all and many who drink too much, but it's our socially acceptable drug, you don't even have the legal argument like you do with drugs.

Sadly you are wrong. As malt-derived fermented alcoholic beverages that have been seasoned with hops they are all beers. They are all fermented with strains of Saccharomyces Cervisiae. They all have malted light colored barley as a major ingredient. Guinness is a stout brewed from 80% pale malt, some unmalted barley and some dark roasted malt and fermented with an ale yeast. Most of the lagers contain very pale malted barley and lesser and greater amounts of other unmalted cereals. A lot of rice in the case of US Bud and maize in Mexican and some European lagers. Nearly all German lagers are malt-only. All lagers are fermented with bottom-fermenting lager yeasts that work at lower temperatures than ale yeasts. Smithwicks is pretty much the same ingredient wise to Guinness. Take out the dark roasted barley, replace with red crystal malt and you have a red ale. To say one's a beer and the other isn't is like saying macs and PCs are not both computers. They both have pretty similar components and ultimately do much the same things. They only difference is the users enjoyment of the differences they do have.

Sorry...for the long beer bore rant but it's a pet subject. I myself brew, both at home and have in the past commercially in a microbrewery.

I can see you know your talking about, but in laymens (my :)) terminology, Guinness is a Stout, Carlsberg is a Lager and Smithwicks is a beer, im being technical about this (obviously) but is this not the case. There may be differences, but they are three different types, aren't they?

They are indeed members of 'beer styles'. Guinness is a stout. Carlsberg is a European style lager. Not really a pilsner. Just common or garden everyday lager beers. Smithwicks is a red ale - it has a 'buttery' taste from a chemical called diacetyl which is a yeast by-product - most yeasts produce it but reabsorb it at the end of fermentation. The Irish ale yeasts are quite poor at re-uptake. Bud's main flavor is also from a by-product. Acetaldehyde which tastes of green apples. Bass is a British bitter - a kind of ale. Bass used to be considered an IPA but it barely fits the description now. It's too weak and not bitter enough.

The world needs more people like you. There is a really bad misunderstanding out there about what different beers are. The most recent one was when I was at BJ's the italian/pizza chain. They are also a microbrewery. They have a beer there that they call a pale but it is very reddish in color and has a bitter flavor and has a slightly sweet after taste. I personally would classify it as an IPA without question.

uk_cavemen did a nice job of clarifying the issue.

i'll add this:

nearly all beers fall neatly into the category of ales and lagers. what differentiates them is the type of yeast used ("ale" strains or "lager" strains).

each broad category has a number of styles. in general (though there are exceptions):

ales: stouts, bitters, anything w/ the word "ale" (strong ale, pale ale, IPA, scottish ale)
lagers: pilsners, bocks, wheat beers, porters

Light Beer American term, indicating a watery Pilsener-style beer. 2.75-4 by volume. Low in calories, and in interest. In some other countries, "Light" means lower in alcohol than a conventional beer.

Malting wasn't an exact science back then so colour varied a bit. The sad thing is a lot of folks that claim to like beer drink stuff that doesn't taste of anything. It's just cold, wet and fizzy. Most of the US mass-produced stuff is mostly derived from rice which adds practically no flavor just alcohol. There are great beers in the US. For a real IPA try Sierra Nevadas. It's truly in the style. It's not just the US it's everywhere - crap lagers that aren't really lagers. Stella Artois in the UK isn't Belgian it's brewed in Wales. It's matured for 24 hours. A real lager is matured for at least six weeks. Even Bud is matured longer than Stella yet Stella's the biggest selling beer in the UK. It's just advertised well so that people believe it's 'reassuringly expensive' for a reason. It is. The reason is to maximise profits. Strange thing is if people are given real, well-kept, flavorful beers people like them. I have to turn people down when they ask me to brew for their parties 'cos I don't have the time...

Personally my favorite beers are IPAs and that's why I tend to spot one when I drink something labeled wrong. I think nowadays especially in oregon they have so many varieties of beers that the line between pale and red and IPA are crossing a bit and muddy in definition. If you really like beers you have to go to a brew fest in Oregon sometime. The last one I went to had 55 micro breweries represented with over 200 brews. Including over a dozen varieties of mead (honey brews).

Grolsch?? Really, you like that? I'm sorry. I think I've had Jupiler. I'm not sure. A friend of mine travels all over North and South America picking up beers wherever he goes and then we have brewfests of our own when he gets back so I've had a quite a variety of foreign beers. I got to say that I still prefer the Pacific NW varieties best. I still haven't had something from elsewhere that couldn't be had locally. At least of a variety I cared for.

Oooh, I forgot Leffe. Its a great beer, in my opinion. It tastes a bit like Höegaarden, but not quite. I like Leffe more, I think, but I'll have to try more of it to make that assessment. :p

So Höegaarden, John Smiths, Caffrey's, Anchor Steam, Leffe, Boddingtons, Alexander Keiths IPA (crap IPA, but good lager taste. Now if it was actually a lager, then it would be considered a good lager.......but it isn't) and several others I've mentioned before.

FYI...

I did a photo shoot with a guy from Guiness (prior to the release of Guiness in bottles) who said not to expect bottled versions ever because the quality (flavor) and head (he called it "mother's milk") weren't anywhere close to their standards.

The can, however, came very very close to duplicating the quality from the tap and it was something they were quite proud to sell.

So I'm curious why you would prefer the bottled version of Guiness over the can.

I can't believe nobody, and I mean nobody (well, myself not included) has even mentioned Palm and/or Hertog Jan. What's up with that? Isn't that weird, eh?! Two beers that definitely belong in the 'best beers of the world'-lists, still nobody even mentions them.

Let's look at the logos...

EDIT: I just found this (http://www.ratebeer.com/) site. Palm Speciale gets a 3.22 rating there and Hertog Jan (regular) a 3.37. The best rated beer get's a 3.92 (Wurzburger Bavarian Holiday Beer (http://www.ratebeer.com/ShowBeer.asp?BeerID=6816)), so those two scores aren't bad at all!

Its a shame I got in on this late, but my choices are...

Taste - Dr. Hops Amber Ale (Unfortunetly only available in Idaho, but by far the smoothest amber I have ever had in my life)

Mass Consumption - Bud Light

With Mexican Food - Pacifico, or Corona

With Pizza - Amber Bach, or Bud Light

Widely available Taste - Fat Tire

While listening to music - Wine (Robert Mondavi)

If you have been bartending all night - Zima*

*Any bartender knows about getting splattered with beer all night and comming home with your entire body covered in beer stench...the last thing you want is another beer, zima is a great alternative.

Sorry I am a year late to this thread, I had one hell of a hangover :D
Traditionally an ale was brewed without hops, many other things were used to flavour the brew instead of hops, and any brew made with hops was a beer.
Favourite ale:
Fraoch heather ale or Kelpie seaweed ale (nice with a bag of dulse).

Favourite beer:
Fullers ESB,
Everards Old Original,
Gold Label Barley Wine,
Carlsberg Special Brew,

Alright here's my call:

Canadian stuff first:

Warthog (Big Rock, Calgary) - Pale Ale - all around nice flavour and smooth
Blanche de Chambly (Unibrue, Chambly, Quebec) - really cold on a hot day
Fin du Monde (Unibrue, Chambly, Quebec) Lots of flavour, second one hits hard. . . . leave the bottom for the beer gods: its not filtered
Dragons Breath Pale Ale (Ontario) - but only on tap . . . .
Fort Garry (Winnipeg, Manitoba) - doesn't seem to exist outside of Manitoba
Steam Whistle (Toronto) - yah, I know that's really light

International:
Guinness - but only when i can afford both meal and a pint
Bavaria - a little sharp, I find, but interesting
Stella - on occassion when none of the above is on tap.

Normally the fridge has good ol PBR, i like it ok, reasonable flavor at a reasonable price.

If you need really really cheap beer you can get Brew City Ice around here for 6.99 a case, if you choke the first can down the rest isn't so bad.

However I will pick up a mini keg of german beer at the local store sometimes, they rotate a few different kinds, but usually they are all decent.

I am generally an ALE guy. If I decide I want a full bodied beer, I'll do a stout.

That being said, I really like NewCastle.

Now, two points...

First, with the exception of many micro/home brews, and Sam Adams, I find most American beer to be like making love in a canoe ( *punchline below ). This said from an ex-AB employee.

Second, While Molsen was OK, I think America is still upset about Canada's stance on Iraq, as we just sent Coors to buy Molsen. Now, what do you think will happen? Will Molsen adopt the Coors formula, getting weaker, or will Coors get a bolder flavor from the Molsen beer formula.

Either way..

My father likes Sam, and my brother told me that recently, he's been drinking expensive tequila (he says it's good...)

Myself? All about the Jack baby :D I do enjoy the taste of burnt wood ;)

Why do I waste my time?

Pete's Wicked Ale
Leinenkugel's or
Sam Adams (when on a budget)
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or
Grolsch (when in the mood for something light - not too often)
Just about anything on tap at a German bier haus

One other rather amusing find was Elvira's Wicked Brew but it is no longer available. Despite being dirt cheap it was surprisingly good. Dark, smooth, and friendly.

Here in Australia, I follow the rule of the 5 C's:
- Carlton (on tap at every good pub, $2 - $3 a pot. love it a lot.)
- Cascade (a very nice Tasmanian beer. Their light beer is even pretty decent.)
- Coopers (The best of the best. A lovely South Australian beer. Go for the Pale Ale, you can't go wrong. Just remember to roll the bottle first!)
- Corona (Need I say more?)
- Crown Lager (A swankier beer made by the same guys who make Carlton. Not as nice as good old Carlton Draught but still a nice drop.)

Other rules to follow: Avoid Geelong Bitter at all costs. Drink VB if you're desperate or it's free. Always loathe Tooheys New.

Oh by the way, I'm Kimberley. I'm new. :)

Cascade
James Boag

I like the cascade summer ale when I can find it.

But since those are more lagers. Then what I grew up on I guess DB Brown.
For a thread on beer there are very few Aussies making any kind of contribution :D.

Apart from the Tasmanian brews mentioned already I like Hahn Premium, Coopers Heritage Premium Ale and Southwark Premium. For everyday drinking I prefer Melbourne Bitter or Carlton Draught.

I'm not sure what the alcohol content is in some of the other beers that have been mentioned, but if it's not 4.5%+ it's light beer as far as I'm concerned .

worst normal beer:

fav special beer:

fav 'white' beer:
- Hoegaarden

fav non-Dutch/Belgian beer:
Corona I guess.. ;) but I won't turn down a Warsteiner either..

Sometimes I feel sorry for American people, they have to wait till they're 21 (officially) and have to drink beer from paper cups at parties (at least, that's what I see on TV :P)

Hey evil, how about some OV and Labatt 50? :) Now that should take you back.

As for a good beer, try Waterloo Dark...very light tasting malty dark beer. Also raspberry wheat from Kawartha Lakes Breweries is good too for something different. I like it for cottage parties, for two reasons
1) It's the only beer I can have warm... important because keeping a keg cool for an entire weeked can be a challenge...
2) The KLB store is en-route to my friends cottatge! :)

If anyone in the general Seattle area hasn't tried anything from the Elysian brewery (http://www.elysianbrewing.com/index1.htm), I highly recommend it. I'm particularly partial to their porter, but the bete blanche is good if you're looking for something a little lighter but still feeling adventurous. The IPA is always good, a little appley, and always a safe bet for those who don't like the heavier beers. I like to try to work my way across the menu from light to dark over the course of a meal, although its a fair challenge to get past more than about four beers there.

Black Butte Porter from Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon.

I've been to their brew-pub. They also make a really good (strong!) ginger ale and a very tasty hamburger piled high with roasted garlic. Yumm! I need to go visit before the pass gets snowy.

I also like Guiness. When I was in high school I was rather too fond of Tooth's Sheaf Stout, which I think comes from Australia.

You can NOT beat a cold Natural Light after a hot days work! It tasted the best in college and was a super cheap alternative to expensive bar beer. The only draw back is the really nasty morning poo.

Black and Tan — a little Guiness and a little Bass really can't go wrong here.
Newcastle — Just a good English beer
Kiltlifter — Funny name, local to AZ, really tasty
Pacifico/Tecate — good w/ fajitas, enchiladas, and stuffed sopapillas, follow with really good sipping tequilla.
Moretti Red — a decent beer that's really good w/ pasta.
Coors — A beer to take fishing, from bottles that have been cooled in a stream, really not bad.

A good beer should be consumed with good food, lots of friends from icy bottles.

I have 3 favorite beers:

1) Moosehead Lager (when in Canada)
2) Carlsberg (for an anywhere go-to beer)
3) Theakston's Old Peculier (because it's the best tasting beer I've ever had...too bad it's 10 bucks a bottle over here.)

I could have sworn I mentioned that in this thread before but, after looking, I couldn't find any posting.

I have to say Pabst Blue Ribbon kicks a lot of ass. You can't step to the $5 12-packs.

When I'm feeling like drinking to just have a drink, it's Sierra Nevada or Bass, and when I'm not cheaping out but need something light, Amstel Light.

For all other purposes it's gotta be PBR!
