View Full Version : MacPro Redesign?

Does it really need a redesign? If so, what would be the purpose? Something new to look at?

I think Apple hit a homerun with this design. I mean, how long has it been out and it doesnt look a bit dated.

I remember when the PowerMac G5 first came out, I read somewhere that the fans and airflow for this case was pretty much overkill for the G5 processors that were in them. I think Apple plans to get a long life out of this design.

What do you think?

I redesign would be kind of cool, but me personally, I love the look of my Mac Pro. My desk and everything on it is Aluminum and I likw it. It looks slick.:D

Sorry, this just came to me this morning. I should have searched I guess. Do you have a link to that thread? I would love to read it.

I really don't think a new design is needed or is going to come anytime soon. After all Apple did just put all that time and resources into completely redesigning the interior... why waste that time and money just to do it all over again a few months later?

I am one of those who does not like the Mac Pro design.

It's okay I guess.

I much preferred the Quicksilver design for looks.

Aah, I disagree. While the Quicksilver design was quite nice, it did appear very plasticky. I really like the sturdyness and... well... professional feel of the aluminium.

Looking on the inside of my Mac Pro, there's very little that I could see them wanting to change. Its already light years ahead of the G5 due to all the extra space. The only thing I can see them changing, which is very minor, is that they route two internal SATA cables from the spare SATA ports up to the optical drive bays. Bluray/HD drives are likely to come in SATA format in the future.

The G5's needed all that air flow a WHOLE lot more than the Xeons that are in use now.

Ditto! I really like the aluminium sturdiness as well. IMHO, the finest
design yet. :D

My prior comment was with regard to the outside look of the Mac Pro. I much prefer the Quicksilver design. I like the curved plastic futuristic look to it.

With regards to the inside, I agree with you. The Mac Pro is much better. I really like the HD expansion system. Apple really has a good internal design with the Mac Pro.

I really like the design, the only thing I would do is change the size, from when I had my Powermac G5 it always was so big and heavy.

Is like if you are a drummer in a band, you never go to play with others they always come to play with you.

I love the case design. I agree that all the old ones looked plasticky. This is just so... so... oh, sorry, got lost in thought staring at my Mac. Plus, I like the weight; it makes me feel like I got something for my money, and it also seems like a partial theft deterrent. Who's going to want to cart that beast around?

Yeah, I really like that actually. :D

I'm a pretty big fan of the current design. Monolithic, metallic, plus perfectly ventilated. The only other material that could possibly replace aluminum might be some sort of black carbon fiber or something...but I'd be happy if the next redesign of the Mac Pro is only internal, perhaps with a white apple on the side instead of gray or something else minor.

All my other requests are internal; hardware raid so I can use 4 HDDs in raid5 as well as new intel chipsets without ecc ram (don't believe they even exist yet), and a cheaper quad conroe option would be super; one of the IT boys at work has an OC'd quad core that's unbelievably fast, much much snappier running vista than a mac pro with osx, and did the retouch artists ps test (cs2) in 28 seconds. too bad it's hideous, sounds like a vacuum, has 2 $900 video cards and doesn't run osx.

I gotta vote for the current design. Simple clean lines and it looks so sturdy.
