View Full Version : Number of Members...

Seems things have been a little more active lately - we're over 18,000 registered members......
last July 23rd we had 10,000 members - right before MWNY we got 1000s in a few days. That might happen again for WWDC.....
Doubling our members in less than a year - wow!
D :D

Are unused accounts purged after a period of inactivity?

Inactive accounts don't get purged, they just sit in the database.
It's amazing to have seen the growth over the past 1.5 years though. Macrumors has come a long way. ;)

i thought it was interesting to see that someone signed up under "hitman"... after hitman changed his name to job... kinda confusing heh. i wonder if any other past used names will get retaken.

I think inactive members should be removed after about a year of not posting at all.
But it is great to see MR grow.

Ha, I think that may eventually happen, although if someone takes DukeStreet they better have a really good reason ;)

Hopefully they're semi-literate new members taking over these old names, it would be strange to see fluff brained people using these old names.
Or would it?
Quick somebody tell MrBongHits that the name DukeStreet is available... :p

i think sometimes active members should be removed..... just for fun...
the problem with your suggestion is that during busy times i think arn may require you to be a member to view the forums... which is one reason the membership shot up last time. so, to remove someone just because they only come to read because of the rules set up by arn would be kinda dumb.
sun baked- are you saying that mr.bonghits is fluff brained?!??!!? ;)

D hah, what would you do about that? abuse your mod powers? you don't have control over accounts like that though, do you? or would you just ban him?
hey, there you go. you could create an account called dukestreet and ban it, then no one could use it :)

dukestreet is still in some of the lists, posts and threads, that doesn't change.
I'd reason with the individual in this case.
Who knows, I might change back one day - probably not though...

Good to see more people are registering. I think when I registered in January there were about 14,000 something people registered. It was right before MWSF so a lot of people probably registered then, too.

yeah, there's more than ever (of course)... what's interesting is that the bulk of the recent new contributors are pretty quiet in general. including one person who has only one post (at least when i checked)... pretty cool sign for arn.

Yes I'm also happy to see the increase in members, it's all due to the great work of arn. It will also be helpful to arn that more are contributing, so he can make the need upgrades to capacity of servers.

That signature, it's almost as distracting as your tar.
I actually had to hit the quote button to see if you said anything in your post, only to find out you really didn't say anything.

Well, new members are good for thesite (re-enforce the community) but perhaps bad in other ways (Spamming) but the mods will be able to take care of that.
Let's just hope that some of these new mebers contribute.

Anyone know which is the largest mac community on-line? I use the OSX Audio forums, and browse a few others, but I'm only a paid-up memebr here.
Best on the net in IMO.

It appears to me that the number of contributors has increased recently. It's the result of arn's hard work!

Heh i hope that for every ten Members taht Join that 1 of them would contribute, in the money sense, as I am sure Arn's Servers are really taking a hit with all the new people. ( I Don't have access to a credit card...yet)

Well, I contributed as soon as the front page thread came on with the contributors mug.
And if I'm only 14, anyone can do it.

by contribution i meant conrtibuting some of my mind,
cause if you dont contribute then this forum would be no where.
doesnt matter if he has all the money if no one talks then its useless.

It is nice to see new names around the forums. I was one of those people to joined just to access the site dureing MWNY last summer. I did't post much but read the forums daily, what a life i have at 17 lol. But posting is fun and have done alot more, I would contribute but my mom would kill me for spending the money on a rmors site, im not saying i think its stupid i really want to but the rathof my mom is not worth it. anyways Great job ARN and keep up the good work.
