Hello all,
In work we have what I am assuming is a PoE cable plugging into a Cisco IP Phone (7940), then a normal Cat 5e cable goes from the phone to the desktop computer and all works well. The phone has no power cable and the cable coming from the floorwell to the phone is thicker than the normal Cat 5e cable.
Basically what I want to know is, what happens if I plug a regular Cat 5e cable into a PoE socket in the floorwell and plug that into my MBP? I'm guessing since the cable doesn't have any connections for power, I'm not going to be able to fry the MBP but I'm not sure.
Any advice would be great!
