Mac DJing sub forum or Mac Guide?

I'm just getting into DJing with my Mac (PowerBook) and I know there are a fair few people on here that use a wide variety of music and DJing programs.

Would it be worth setting up a sub forum or Mac Guide on the topic? Perhaps in the digital audio forum?

I know when researching my own set up it was really difficult to get answers on the equipment, and software program specific sites such as the Ableton forums are pretty heavy duty.

Could be good to have one here?

A Guide makes sense if there's some information to share/disseminate.

I see one active DJ-themed thread in theDigital Audio forum. Have there been many more such threads? Is it easy or hard to find them?

There's quite a few spread about on the different programs (Ableton, Serato etc) and then more on equipment, but it could be really beneficial to pull it all together.

I wouldn't anticipate it being a massive, all-encompassing resource as there's other forums that go deep into specifics of the software (programs like Ableton are used for a lot more than just DJing), but I think there's definitely an opportunity to create something worthwhile, plus it may encourage more members to contribute. A lot of the posts in the various threads have had some great info and comments.

I agree with you. There are DJs out there and they would want a DJ Subforum or Guide.

Well any MR poster with more than 5 posts can make a guide so...

EDIT: if you type a good guide as text someone else can make it wiki formatted later, you can also use the controls in the toolbar of the edit screen to help...

Make sure you're logged into your Guide account (same account as MR, but you need to log in separately).

Instructions are located here (http://guides.macrumors.com/Help:Contents). If you're not familiar with Wiki Markup syntax, it can take a little while to figure it all out, but it's actually very easy to use.

Thanks! We appreciate those who take the time to organize their information into a Guide. It's technically easy to make a Guide, but harder than it looks to do a good job presenting information like this.

The original post here was asking about a subforum. I'm not convinced that there is enough discussion on this topic for a dedicated subforum, even though that would make it easier for people to find threads on the subject.

It's one of the numerous specialized topics for which we've had requests for subforums. It's more related to Macs than some of the requests we've gotten (like having forums for specific sports). On the other hand, the Digital Audio forum has many fewer threads and posts than, say, the Digital Video and Digital Photography forums, so it's harder for a topic to be "lost" amidst the threads.

We try to avoid adding many forums and subforums, but we consider each suggestion we get. We consider factors such as the ones I mentioned, as well as the number of people who show a strong interest.

That's absolutely fair enough I think Dr. Q. The Digital Audio forum is a sub forum itself and it's never that busy. Hopefully the guide will grow in time.

It's one of the things I'd love to explore on my powerbook, but I have no idea what equipment is best for cheapskates or how to go about it.

(for these who don't know, VJing is live mixing of clips/camera feed, at the same time as outputting your mix to a screen or projector.)

I've seen it done at a few music events and underground film festivals. Really nice.

I don't know anything about it personally, but no reason why it couldn't be another page on that guide.

Some of the stuff that's being done these days with video is pretty awesome.
