Following an inadvertant peek (http://www.macrumors.com/2007/04/18/new-ipod-game-iquiz-coming/) last week. Apple has released iQuiz trivia game (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewGame?id=250327961&s=143441) (iTunes Link) for the 5th generation iPods on the Apple iTunes Store:

This game would rule if you could play against simulated personalities such as, say, I don't know, Sean Connery. :D

Anyway, as soon as I get more that 46¢ in my iTunes, I'll download it. Looks awesome.

It's (presumably) wrongly priced at £0.79 on the UK iTunes store. I bought it, and the transaction went through fine - Apple can't touch me either: under UK law if you sell something at a price, and that price is wrong, it's you're luck out :)

I wonder if this is an attempt to break into the brainage market that's exploded on the nintendo DS? That game's got older adults buying the DS like crazy!

Well, I got it for NZ$1.79 (one song), and in the US store, the logo has a 0.99 banner on it. I think it's the right price.

Ahahah, I bought it while it was a $.99 US, we'll see if they charge me afterwards... I did a full music quizz and it's really excellent, you have to find either a song, an album from its art, the release year, ... There are 5 rounds with bonus rounds in between. Just scored $12k :)

The trivias were not as appealing for me, but I'm sure the user-created trivias will rock !

Great value even at $4.99 I think !!!

I didn't vote this positive or negative. I know Apple hired some game developers, but honestly, even with no programming knowledge, I think I could have wrote a similar game in 1 month, and that includes learning the code necessary to make such a game work. It's not exactly an exciting release of any sort. It may be a big hit with the MR crowd, but ask anyone off the street, or a typical iPod customer, and they're not going to give a hoot about a trivia game.

On the other hand, it could still be fun to have on the iPod (if you actually play games on it), and it's not expensive.

How many immature comments can a Mac-fanatic come up with?
Is the elitism of a Mac-user an aquired characteristic or are they born with it?

No more immature than the comments Mac users have to deal with from Windows elitist folks ;)

Wow! Stop the madness!!! I'll probably buy this if it is 99 cents sometime while I'm in class today.

Maybe oscillating prices will be a new feature announced for the iTunes Store at large. The major record labels said they wanted "variable" pricing! :D

I think its acquired together with a apple purchase. Honestly, how low is the creativity of the ipod games sinking. I mean a trivia game... brilliant (not).
Maybe apple should open its platform. Hell if i can play doom on my crappy Ti-84 (graphing calculator), I would pay for a colour version on the ipod.

Give us some real games apple!

I've tried a few games on the iPod but the interface doesn't lend itself to great game play. I find it awkward.

I see iPod games as a gimmick more than anything. Hopefully this will change with the next significant revision of the iPod - multi-touch screen, for example.

Actually, Tetris, I find works very very well on the iPod. My gf was fiddling with my video and she happened to come across the game. She was still new to the clickwheel yet fell right into the gameplay and controls. It's designed very well, and actually works better with one thumb for me than all those times I've played Tetris on a gameboy. They are sort of gimmicks, but are still pleasant gimmicks that are nice time killing applications.

I agree. It may take a while to get used to but Vortex and Zuma work very well. As testament, I've made it to level 13-1 in Zuma with 3 lives left. (If you think level 9 or 10 is the end, you are wrong and yes, its harder  ) Every once in a while I shoot a ball at the wrong place and blame the scroll wheel...

I don't imagine Pac-Man is terribly easy on an iPod but I can tell you those two games work well and are fun, Maccus says Tetris is too, and iQuiz looks like it will be also.

Pacman is dreadful to use, even after you get the hang of the controls. The issue with this game is that you have to turn your thumb around accordingly on the touch wheel to select the path for pacman to go into. If you turn and run from a ghost you might turn your finger too far and turn around again and head straight for the ghost and die. It's pretty frustrating. Unfortunately the zune would be the better device for pacman, as the directional pad is optimal for this type of game.

I've just released the first trivia pack for iQuiz called Babya Quiz-Windows XP Basics.

Babya Quiz-Windows XP Basics is a short quiz about Windows XP for Apple's iQuiz game for iPods.

How to install-unzip and copy the quiz pack and folder into: the iPod Games's iQuiz (in the iTunes folder on your PC or Mac). Then connect your iPod and sync it with iTunes 7.1 or later.

I can see teachers writing up all sorts of requests to get iPODS in the classroom with this addition. I'm imagining the future iPOD with wi-fi and using the main classroom computer as the server. BETTER PATENT THAT IMMEDIATELY.

Teacher makes up their own tests, downloads state tests. ACT and SAT sell questions for iQuiz to help with student preparation.

Pretty exciting stuff.

Kids forget their books every day, but I assure you, they don't forget their iPODS.

I agree that there are huge possibilities for teachers with iQuiz. It's maybe not hugely exciting and we all probably wanted other things prioritised, but for us teachers it's great to have something for which we can quickly write quizzes and get kids actually learning on their iPods.

I've done a quiz based on the vocabulary in the latest lesson of my Coffee Break Spanish (http://www.coffeebreakspanish.com) podcast. You can download the zip file here (http://media.libsyn.com/media/coffeebreakspanish/cbs-24-iquiz.zip) (instructions included).

Incidentally, I got it for £0.79 here in the UK. The iQuizmaker site seems to be down just now though. Obviously there's a lot of traffic today.

Go back and check the built-in tutorial, that's not how you control Pac Man. A lot of people are making this mistake since most other games do work this way.

To move Pac Man (or Ms. Pac Man), you need to only lightly tap the "next", "previous", "Pause/Play" and "Menu" portions of the click wheel to move right, left, down or up.

You don't need to run your thumb all around the entire scroll wheel, and you don't need to actually push these buttons down hard, just a really light tap will change Pac Man's direction. Think of it as a 4-button game.

Once you figure this out, the game is a lot easier to play and a lot more fun too.

Heh, I actually thought he was being sarcastic, but I may have read that wrong!

I doubt that many schools in my country would be prepared to force their students to spend several hundred dollars on a piece of equipment purely for the purpose of running a little $1.79 quiz program. That sort of thing can already be done with existing PCs or even... ahem... paper!

At the price it looks like a game that could be on the majority of iPods before long. OK, perhaps it could have been a more innovative game that they priced like this, but if everyone on the tube and buses is playing it then watch out Nintendo.
