I know that it is compatible with the Macbook, but I'm wondering if I will need to format it or anything like that before I can put it in the laptop.

Are you planning on copying your old system over, or starting fresh?

Either way you'll need to pop it in somehow (be it install the drive or hook it up via external connection), and format it Mac OS Extended Journaled with Disk Utility. If you install it directly, you'll just need to boot off your install DVD and launch disk utility.

It might be easier to hook it up externally though, and clone your system over using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper after formatting.

I'm planning on starting fresh...it's a new Macbook. I'll be ordering the Macbook tomorrow and the hard drive either tomorrow or the next day.

I forgot to add that anything I need from my current system I'm putting on my external and moving it that way.

You might want to note it has a 1 year warranty. The Seagates have a 5 year.

Hmm, that is a good point...I was really just going for cheaper, because I'm a high school student going to college in the fall, but I'm planning on running the Macbook at least until I graduate from college, so the 5 year warranty would probably be better in the long run.

Western Digital hard drives are great, I wouldn't worry about them dying out all of sudden. You have to be careful for those that might come DoA. I am not sure if newegg.com covers a 30 day or 90 warranty though, you might have to check on that. Good luck!
