Some sad news former footballer Alan Ball died (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6590715.stm) at the age of 61 from a heart attack.

Alan was the youngest member of the 1966 England World Cup winning team and had a reputation as a tireless, hardworking midfielder. As well as his 72 England caps he also played for numerous clubs in England as well as stints in the US, Canada and Hong Kong.

RIP Alan.

I thought you were referring to Alan Ball the screenwriter of Six Feet Under fame.

Can't say I'd heard of this Alan, but always sad to hear of someone so young going.

Really sad. I knew Alan, Lesley and family whilst we lived in Hampshire. He was managing Portsmouth at the time and lived just down the hill. Jimmy used to sometimes knock around with my younger brother Nice guy, and a complete legend. Such a shame.
