I'll tell you how much I don't care......

But seriously, or maybe not, I'm going to recommend some things, and you will take my advice. Others can follow as they like, but no beer. And let's stick to recent things.

Film- Frida
I was surprised that I actually like this, but Salma Hayek gave an honest performance and the acting in general was top-notch, aside from the miscast role of Ashley Judd as Tina Modotti. Of course certain times in Frida Kahlos life could have been elaborted on more, being a film it had to make some sacrafices. Definitely worth seeing.

Book-Super Flat Times by Matthew Derby.
The most original collection of science fiction based short stories I've read since Italo Calvino's Cosmicomics, seriously, and I say "based" on because neither book is typical sci-fi, maybe future realism would be a better term.

Music- Ms. John Soda: No P. or D.
From the same camp as The Notwist and Lali Puna, this is Stefanie Bohm (couch) and Micha Acher (the notwist) and although the album is very similar to The Notwists Neon Golden this album is much more feminine and maybe a little warmer in general. The result is pure pop bliss, accessible but still brillant.

Web- If you havn't checked Matthew Ritchie's site do so, it's insane. http://adaweb.walkerart.org/influx/hardway/home/home.html

that's all for now, go back to your normal activities.

Okay, I'll bite.

Movie - Amèlie. I found it to be a fresh twist on a love story. It wasn't the standard defiant love or forbidden love - it was a chase for love. It just worked.

Book - This is a bit harder, since I haven't read anything TOO recent, but I'm gonna have to say Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. He takes America, strings it up by its problems in the form of Kilgore Trout and Dwayne Hoover, and beats it to death. Great book if you haven't read it. I know it's from the 70s, but it's a literary staple, in my opinion.

Music - ugh. I'm afraid to walk on this turf because all music is not the same as all other music. Well, okay. The freshest sound I've heard in a long time is Andy Stochansky. He's made quite a few albums, but there's something different about all of them. Some of it is quiet, some louder, nice mix overall. Very talented.

Not even gonna touch website - I don't surf enough.

The Comedian was quite good, though Orny Adams is beyond horrible. Didn't care for The Postal Service though.

orny was disgraceful. an emberassment to himself. though, watching the special features (where is orny now) it seems he knows that and mellowed out a bit. good for him, but he let stress ruin his shot at the "big time".

if we can't agree on postal service;) surely we can agree on four tet and manitoba?
