I may be selling this for someone, and wanted to get an idea how much they could get.
The macbook's original purchase date Aug 30, 2006.
2GHz Core duo processor
80 GB 5400rpm SATA hard drive
512 MB PC 5300 DDR2 SDRAM.
The logic board suffered a spill, and the repair has been quoted by apple for $700.
Any thoughts?

You'd probably be better off parting it out. I'm sure the LCD and such (if it still works) will fetch a decent amount.

it's not worth much, I'm sorry to say. Consider that the model you have sells for about $1000 refurb. Granted, refurbs sell out pretty fast at that price, so let's say it's worth $1000 fully functional (which is already a stretch). Well, then you have to subtract $700 because that's what it's gonna take to make it fully functional, unless there's a cheaper way to do that repair.

Remember - you can't actually sell the item in the MacRumors Marketplace, because the sale is for a friend...
...but a Feeler is fine :)

i hate when people post the 'take it to ebay' replies....
but in this case, umm, take it to ebay. water damage, non functional macbooks posted all the time, and see them sell for over $500 every time. dead, doa, no return, no kidding. i don't know who is buying or why, but there seems to be a demand.
take good picutures, list out what happened, featured, no reserve, etc and watch what happens. quick search found THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/BROKEN-White-Macbook-2-0-GHz-Intel-Core-Duo-512MB-60GB_W0QQitemZ150115374896QQihZ005QQcategoryZ140064QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) as an example. not my auction, and i'm not bidding by the way...strange place that ebay.

Considering that the repair is $700 and that a refurb with warranty is $999 or $1099, I don't think that you could get more than $300 for it.
However, if you can test the screen, iSight, HDD, optical drive, tc. You can probably sell those pieces for much more.

I disagree. I think you might be able get closer to $500 or more on ebay. There's always those people who can repair it themselves at substantially less than Apple charges.

Hi
I haven't yet tried these guys (http://www.dttservice.com/macbook.html#macbook2mlb) with repairs but... I've ordered a Power Mac G4 power supply from them and it went OK.

youll get $100-300, no kidding, for the LCD alone. unless water got onto the screen and behind it, its going to work and you can guarantee it in your auction, thus garnering more/higher bids.
as others have said, part it out.
a car is worth jack when it doesnt run and is on blocks.
its worth alot when you hack it apart and sell it piecemeal.
just the cosmetic parts are worth something to someone.
though, if someone wanted to buy the whole shebang outright, for a price you think is fair, go for that, its only one possible headache instead of possibly many.
