External Hard Drive error...

Ok, so I just bought a external FW/USB 2.0 Harddrive. Everything was going fine until now. It used to just run off of one FW cord (It is a mobile harddrive). Now, The FW only works for power. It used to run off only USB 2.0. Now, the Harddrive spins up and down when plugged in to only USB 2.0. So, what I have to do is Plug in BOTH FW and USB, FW for power and USB 2.0 for data. I tried the drive on multiple computers, and it did the exact same thing! Do you have any ideas? I desperatly need help!
 
Like the Captain suggested hardware failure i.e. the drive. Seems to me it is he controller in the drive.
