View Full Version : First Photos from Apple iPhone?

An unusual story has popped up on MobileGuerilla (http://www.mobileguerilla.com/articles/2007/04/28/first-pictures-taken-with-apple-iphone.php) claiming to have found the first photos from an Apple iPhone on the web.
The search method seemed rather primitive... they simply searched for "taken with an Apple iPhone" on Google and found a set of Flickr images (now removed) tagged with the phrase. The phrase is automatically generated by Flickr based on the EXIF data from the camera itself.
Now, this alone is certainly not proof that the images were necessarily taken by an Apple iPhone, The images where then set to private and then deleted from the Flickr account. Again, this alone would not be particularly convincing, however, based on publicly available evidence, it's clear that the photos came from someone in the position to have access to an iPhone.
As a result, it appears very likely the photos are authentic.

Steve will find out who this person is, and how they are connected to the person that actually works at Apple.
Then, their dog will be in pieces on their porch.
The project manager will get into his car to inform the police, at which point the Mac death (duh-duh-duuuuuh!) chime sounds on the radio system, and the car promptly explodes.

If those photos are legit, and I suspect they are, then they are great for a phone camera.
My Blackberry pearl takes terrible pictures and not due to it's 1.3 megapixel resolution, but due to terrible optics an electronics.
This alone makes an iPhone worth it for me.

If this turns out to be real then someone is going to get fired Monday. Even if neither of the people in the photos are connected to Apple directly, someone will know who they are and tie them back to someone.
Is it really worth getting someone canned to get a rumor?

Interesting.
Both Preview, Photoshop CS1, and iPhoto do this. The web browsers I tried don't.
Since CS1 is doing it than this feature is either something that's been out there for a few years now or you and I are just crazy.

are you serious? This person deserves exactly what he gets. Im sure this guy has signed more than one or two NDA's that probably stated doing something like this was against his own interests, and on top of that he took the pictures in public with an unreleased product AND posted them on a PUBLIC image hosting server. Resolution is 1600*1200, which makes for 2mp. Noise levels weren't bad at all. I could see myself getting this image on paper, but we'll have to wait till we see more pictures if all the photos stand out like this.. :)
Macrumors implementation of big piccies is kind of bothersome, because you have to turn off pithhelmet and reload the main page before clicking the thumbnails will work.

And yet worth the time to post :)
This is great news, IF true, compared to the awful phone pics my friends send me from other recent thin phones.
I often carry my camera in my pocket just in case... and usually my iPod (mainly for contacts/calendar) as well. It seems increasingly likely that an iPhone can replace both devices--and it's thinner than either one. (My iPod's a 60GB 4G.)

Normally I would agree. In this case, though, what I think happened here is that they were testing the iPhone's integration with Flickr and forgot to make the photos private. We don't always know every feature of every service.
I've never used Flickr, but what if they were testing a widget that posts your photos there? It worked didn't it?
What's the default setting for photos posted to Flickr, public or private?
Does anyone know when the photos were taken vs when they were "found?"
If it was an accident, I don't think termination is in order. Maybe it'll point out a deficiency in the widget.

Cool--thanks.
And I don't think this slip is likely to make Apple all THAT mad. We already knew it had a 1600x1200 camera. The product has already been announced, including megapixels.
I wonder if the smaller image might be a still exported from a video? (Wishful thinking. I LOVE my current cam's crappy video ability, compared to having no video cam on hand at all. If iPhone can take even 15fps 320x240 I'll find uses for it.)

You know, a few people have said this, but in all seriousness; why would someone posting some photos taken from an iPhone to their Flickr account warrant firing? There isn't anything secret in the photos that wouldn't already be known (the product is called.... iPhone! It takes 2MP photos! SHOCKER!).
It would be one thing if someone posted a bunch of pictures OF the iPhone, but this hardly seems like it would warrant being fired over. It basically shows that this person is actually using the iPhone; if they didn't want people out using them, they probably wouldn't have them out.
The only think i could see that would warrant firing would be if this person wasn't supposed to be using their iPhone in public or something. But I have a hard time believing that someone just snuck it out without permission, and then used it to take photos and upload them to their Flickr account if there was going to be a problem with doing that.

These are fake.
First of all why would he/she risk being fired by taking pictures in public with a product that should not even be out of the labs?
Just being seen with it would lead them to being fired unless they were some big shot executive or journalist? Neither would do this type of a stunt.
Secondly what purpose would it serve to post them on the web, other than show them to someone and furthering the risk of being fired?
This smells like a fake story from some PR firm to generate more buzz about the iPhone.

Apr 29, 2007, 02:33 AM
Ok, 2.8 is pretty fast. The focal length is 14mm, and the perspective looks to be about "normal," so we (DSLR owners) should be able to think of the iPhone's lens as an f/2.8 31mm macro. This assumes that a zoom lens is not used. I'd certainly rather have a 50mm equivalent prime than one of the superzoom 28-300 currently popular on P&S cameras.

Here are the "facts" so to speak.
- Images appeared on Flickr with "iPhone" listed in EXIF data
- Flickr account owned by someone identified as an Apple Product Mananger
- Photos deleted shortly after their discovery
all of that together makes it pretty convincing. It's not like the photos were tagged as "iphone" photos... the EXIF information is something that most people don't think about when they decide to publish a photo on the internet or not. So it may have just been mixed in with the other photos, and the person decided to publish it on flickr.

The iPhone will have lots of industry beating features. The quality of these images really isn't one guys. If you think these are utterly amazing for a cell-phone camera, you've not looked at enough cell-phones. The colour cast on the first really isn't very good and the second is struggling with the dynamic range of the scene.

or
http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-phones/review/2006/10/01/Nokia-N73/p3
for instance. OK - not similar settings or scenes, but quite clearly cameras that match and likely exceed the quality of these shots were seing.
The iPhone images are good, better than many, but they're nothing special, nothing some other phones can't match or beat. Now - Steve likes his 'one last thing' moments...If it can record good quality video, 640 x 480 to drop straight onto your AppleTV ..THAT would be exciting.

Nobody's "getting excited" over these pics being better than any phone known to humanity :p
But a lot of phones have really poor cameras, while this image looks pretty decent. That makes this good news. Nobody demands that the iPhone must have the best camera ever seen in a phone, and nobody who owns some other phone needs to feel any challenge towards their choice.

Why this is a big deal is beyond me. It's not like the iPhone has an amazing camera. My phone has a camera that is as good as if not better than the iPhones. Move along people...I agree. They are acceptable, but Sony Ericsson's camera phones offer better image quality at a higher resolution. At the price, I would expect it to be competitive in this area, not meeting the standard of last year's, or even the year before's, top of the line phones. There are two main reasons many people will wait for the next generation iPhone: lack of 3G/HSDPA and a 3.2MP camera with auto focus and a flash.

General questions about the phones with a built-in flash and image quality better than these "unaccaptable" iPhone results: how many of them have dimensions as small as an iPhone? I'd love a flash, zoom, etc., but not if it makes the phone bigger. I have a camera already for those needs, and no phone will equal it when I need top quality. Top quality isn't what a phone needs. What the iPhone does have, if these photos are real, is very GOOD quality, meeting a standard of usefulness than I have seldom seen in phone pictures. I'm sure, moving forward, that this same quality is no longer the exception with newer phones. That takes nothing away from the iPhone.

Having a tiny fraction of the target market know that the camera inside the iphone a) works and b) isn't terrible isn't doing anyone any harm.. This is hardly a leak, or anythign apple would care much about.
Some of you guys act like infinite loop is Area 51 or something.

I wonder whether you could go straight to Flickr from the iPhone and upload photos taken with it, instead of having to transfer the photos to your computer and upload from there. I am guessing the iPhone would need some kind of Finder in order to do that.
Still, you could use the email to Flickr option and I am sure developers could make plugins/widgets for it.

the iphone is neat but not like it is going to change the world the second it comes out.
Maybe not at the first second but the iPhone is going to change our mobile life, public wifi and influence a big portion of the internet. This is bigger than the Mac and iPod combined, its a combination of the two that will revolutionize our digital lives. :D

Zoom lens and flash would be great to have! But your Sharp 903 is well over an inch thick! Thicker than my non-phone camera, in fact. That's not a trade I'd be willing to make. Nor would I generally want to spend battery life on zoom motors and camera flash.
If I want the BEST photos possible in all conditions, I'll want something bulkier than an iPhone--like your phone or the camera I already have. I'm sure your phone is great. But more often, I just want very GOOD pictures, and maximum portability. At less than 1/2" thick, iPhone appears to deliver that.
An iPhone doesn't have to be the ultimate camera any more than it has to be the ultimate personal weather station. The camera (and weather widget) are simply very useful features to include.

The photos aren't anything special, guys.
1. Low noise? Who knows how much light there was when the photo was taken. There could've been a large amount of light and very little made it into the lens in the first picture. There are obviously lights in the background, but the kitchen area looks so dark as to be suicidal.
2. The second photo has some horrible purple fringing. Ok for a picture you're going to show your friends on your phone, not ok for printing out and putting into a frame.
3. In both pics the blue levels seem to be way high. Also, the classic phone camera-focus can be seen clearly in the high res (you're 2 feet from the guy's face and he's using 40% of the image, but facial features are blurry to jpeg'ed out).
What does this prove? Apple went pretty standard on the camera part.

Why do the colors look so terribly wrong? So the photo itself is ok... but the white balance seems to be crap. Oh great. So it's useless. Sure you can fix it in Photoshop, but when it's as wrong as with that photo? I doubt the iPhone can save RAW...
And I'd expect Sonys newest K series phones to be better. They have flash too, and they shouldn't be too big.
I think if this guy is going to be fired, than because of the bad quality of the photos.

You have valid points, but the 903SH is just over an inch thick at it's thickest point and takes 3.2MP photos.
Main thing is, it's 18 months old...
I use it because it's nice to have a flip-phone (I am one of the only people in the UK to prefer them), it takes amazing photos (saving me carrying a DSLR around - unless I want to be really arty/take the best shots) and it's 3G so I get great data speeds for email when I am out and about.

I've simply got to ask how you managed to resolve that much detail? I tried a simple zoom in PS and got nothing but a blur (this is from the full size flickr image btw). Nice work anyhow.
I too am slightly disappointed by the camera performance given other manufacturers' recent advances. With such a small sensor a F/1.4 50mm equivalent lens would have been ideal combined with at least a 3MP sensor and ideally an LED (or better still) xenon flash. Sure the phone comes first but for me, poor quality cameras can really let down the quality overall.
Flickr integration would be really hot (though it's not a first, doesn't the SE K800i already have it?).
I agree with a lot of people that the Gen2 iPhone will be the one but I still want the Gen1 device really badly! :)

I am interested in the backlit photo being better than the ones my Sony camera takes. Backlighting is the bane of digital cameras.
I REALLY want it to be able to take MOVIES at the full resolution of the sensor. So what if it takes up a lot of space, just transmit it to your MacBook via Wi-Fi.
I like the "inside baseball" images. QT7 celebration, Beer Pong, and custom made CPU's. Kinda neat. Not much meat. Nothing to get worked up over, but fun.
I do think these really are the first iPhone photos in the wild for all the reasons Arn said, plus the associated other personal photos and the subject of a photo having a wiki entry of unbelievable length and complexity.

Seriously though. I'm pretty excited about this. As someone else noted, the pearl (my soon to be former phone come june) takes HORRIBLE pictures. It's not that these are perfect, but it at least shows that that they used decent components in the camera which should partially quell the "I'm never buying this thing cuz it doesn't have a 5 megapixel camera" folks. It's not the megapixels that count so much as the color reproduction and ability to work in different lighting conditions.
It's not earthshattering, but it is something we didn't know anything about previously.
Oh, and I'm inferring the color reproduction based on the guy's incredibly pasty complexion and my assumptions about most people in the computer industry. Just kidding ;)

Don't forget the iPhone will have an accelerometer. That way, if you're watching a movie on the iPhone right side up, the movie's right side up. Turn the iPhone and it automatically rotates so its still right side up. Check out www.apple.com/iphone to see what I mean.

Huh... That got me thinking... So, assuming you can take video on the iPhone, could the accelerometer potentially be used to eliminate shaking, somewhat like a steadycam? I'd assume not, but it would be really cool.

The "fuss" as you say it is that we're all Apple fans and these are the first pictures from the first Apple camera. This thread brings up a couple interesting points. I for one think that the information in these photos is spoofed. Unless iPhoto is partial to images taken with the iPhone (hey... it's totally possible...) it doesn't really seem to read information from the pictures I've taken with 4-5 different cell phones.

This particular rumor has yielded some interesting replies.
"My phone can beat up your phone's dad. And my country has better Phones than yours!"
If these are legit pictures then they look pretty good! That much is certain. If you have a 20,000 megapixel camera from Luxembourg, or a 100,000 megapixel camera from Japan, then rest assured, your hard earned supremacy in the land of cell phone cameras shall remain unchallenged by the iPhone, no one is saying it's the greatest camera ever created by man or celestial being, you came up with that one all on your own ;). If you have a 3-5 megapixel camera from the US or some other totally not European or Asian (and therefor far less awesome, apparently) country, keep in mind that megapixels are far from the lone distinguishing element by which to gauge the quality of your camera. You can have a 1,000,000 megapixel camera, but if the optics suck, then its sad day in happyville for you. Anyway. The moral of the story: Some phones are better than others. Peace.

Yes, it brings some fresh air to the cell phone world with the new interface, new design.. but the camera is weak, the storage is on the weak side, the battery life reports are weak, and the price is high at 500-600.

Hi,
Thanks for the input. I definitely take this stuff seriously.
- I don't think their job would necessarily be at risk for it. The iPhone is an announced product.
- All information posted was publicly available on the internet. Editing down the information as you suggested, does not actually provide any significant protection of the identity of the individual, since (again) it was all posted publicly on the internet on a personal account.

Please. The TS case was about an alleged Apple employee leaking information to the site about an unannounced product, most likely violating the NDAs that they had signed. This story is about finding photos that were posted to a public site, whether accidentally or intentionally, not leaked to Macrumors. In a journalistic fashion, the owner of that account was discovered, which made it the "story" that it is.

After looking at both photos I'm on the "no" side....
As far as I know, There's ONE iPhone on the loose and that's tucked in Steve's pocket. I'm not sure about the first photo but I can with 99% certainty say that the second photo is from the New York, New York Casino is Las Vegas. If you go into the "Brooklyn Area" of the eatery area they have a wall of refrigerated meat for everyone to look at.
If Steve has EVER leaked anything to the public before is in serious doubt. Why he would fly down to Las Vegas to snap two pictures and set them loose on the interwebs is beyond me.
I'm calling them fakers. That's my OPINION. (And I am entitled to that!)

Why this is a big deal is beyond me. It's not like the iPhone has an amazing camera. My phone has a camera that is as good as if not better than the iPhones. Move along people...
I agree that this is not a big deal (for different reasons: I just don't care about the fact that a photo taken by the iPhone was posted online - the iPhone's photo quality seems alright).
However: it seems that in every rumor thread, someone says "Move along people". This annoys the heck out of me. Why is it your place to tell me or anyone else what to do? To me, it seems rather rude to do so.

Since the iPhone isn't in production yet this is probably just a prototype being used in some field testing - including downloading to flicker. It does show some work that Apple is going to need to do in the camera area and that is probably being addressed now.
As for the 2MP size, I believe part of that translate back to the memory levels of the first iPhones and ALL of the other features it will have, from music to pics to movies, plus Lord knows what else. When we get past Gen 1 we will probably see a lot more memory and that is going to make higher resolutions more viable.

Its not nearly as high quality as a lot of asian phones (some of those phones look exactly like $300+ digital cameras) but by american standards is way better than the other webcam quality garbage we get. We still have a long way to go before we get perfect color and exposure like the S Koreans and Japanese get from their phones.

The EXIF data you posted is indeed interesting (and appreciated), but that (by itself) really proves nothing. A knowledgeable and skilled person could easily change EXIF data, and make it look "authentic" in the process. ;)
That said, there's a lot of evidence to support the concept that the photos could be from the real thing. But cynically thinking, it's hard to imagine a "real" iPhone being allowed to travel (very far) out into the real world and being (publicly) used to snap a couple of impromptu photographs.
However, one thing is certain -- the amount of "free" advertising the iPhone is able to generate is truly amazing! :p

Yes. The second image is taken at the entrance to the lobby bar of the Alexander's Steak House on Wolfe Road in Cupertino, CA. They age their own beef and the meat locker has a glass wall.

A very nice restaurant BTW, and just one exit down 280 (less than 2 miles) from Apple HQ and about a mile from my house.
So, if the image was taken by an Apple employee with an actual prototype iPhone, the location is certainly very plausible and not straying that far from the farm...

kenaustus has it right. The iPhone might not be THE most complex consumer electroncis device ever brought to market, but it's probably close. And integrating it with Google, Yahoo, Cingular/AT&T, to say nothing of the device's own QA requirements, it's going to require (!) real iPhones travelling out in public.
It's early, and this employee appears tight with Apple. But wait until late May and early June, when Apple has to deploy hundreds (if not thousands) of these things for field testing. There are going to be leaks all over the place.

The bigger a company gets and the higher it moves toward the top, the more reason that company has to be secretive. Companies usually get bigger and move to the top of the heap because their people work smarter than the competition. It's Darwinism in motion... :p
Smart corporations usually take great steps to prevent "accidents", before they happen. Unless of course, that's part of the game plan. :p

Oh and, for all the people wondering about the orientation information, my Canon Powershot 630 does that too, I thought every modern camera stored the orientation with the picture so you don't have to correct it yourself later. And since the iPhone has an orientation sensor for cover flow and stuff, it just makes sense to use it for taking pictures too.

Being from Apple, it is hardly likely to be much more useful than a shoe horn. It is too light to be a door stop. It ought to leak enough EMF to take planes off-course and possibly ignite a petrol (gas) dispenser or two. Those would be "good" days.

They look better than most phones I've seen. People complain that it's not high enough resolution, but I think that Apple realizes something that the fellows putting 5 gigapixel cameras in phones do not, and that is that people are usually sending, and receiving these on phones, so the file size needs to be right, and the resolution doesn't have to be astonishing. Second, no one is using their phone to take pictures of their kid's graduation.

I gotta admit - I was a nay sayer of the pic quality when the specs first came out - but you got it right. Sending huge files from and to phones is bad. Also - as another poster pointed out- if I want great pics, I will bring my camera, but if I just want average pics - the iPhone will be fine. Digital Swiss Army knife....

True, but the point is I don't carry my digital camera everywhere with me but I do my phone and the 5 megapixels gives me the possibility of taking goodish pictures. (I say goodish because, to be honest, they aren't as good as a normal camera with the same megapixels.) The camera takes highest res pics but before mailing it asks what size I want to send (as in picture below).

I don't buy that for one second, sorry.
I have a SonyErricson K800i, out for over a year, that takes pics at 3.2MP with a proper zenon flash. I can send the pictures I take at 3.2MP res to other phones, and the comparatively limited software will downscale the pic automatically, or offer me the option, before I send the message.
So your argument is just void, since uncomplicated phones can do the simple things which the iPhone should take in it's stride. The reason for leaving out at least a 3.2mp camera is beyond me, and regardless if some individuals will use it or not - I enjoy the fact I can take out one piece of hardware to take very good shots, that will beat the iPhone, and on a whim.
None of the arguments presented so far, justify using a weaker lens than what can be used.
Bobthemonkey
Apr 30, 2007, 08:43 AM
One of the key elements in the K800i's picture quality (and some other high-end phones) is the lens, rahter than the CCD. A 2mp with a good lens will give better images than a 3mp with a useless lens.
Most good 'western' phones [excluding some odd high end stuff - mostly SE Asia only) top out at 2mp, especially those the iPhone will be competing against. Providing Apple use a good lens, and uses good processing (some phone are dreadfull) 2mp is fine.
The only exception is the Nokia N95, which is 5mp, but is useless. - Really neads a touch-screen, is horribbly unstable[worse than Windows!) and doesn't work well - needs to be Applie-fied.

Dude looks like a lady!
This is by far and way the thread that has made me laugh the most in quite some time. I too thought it was a woman.
Then we get the "these pictures are great for a phone" posts, when these pictures are clearly bad. Most of that has to do with composition, overexposure, etc. But still these pictures can tell you nothing about how good the camera is.
Next we get the "wow! orientation information is stored" people. While it is cool that orientation information is stored, I expected nothing less from a phone that changes its entire visual presentation when you turn it sideways. That is a much more difficult problem to solve than storing the orientation information in pictures taken by its camera.
I get that everyone wants this phone to be a success, as do I, as I really want to see its technology seep down into the iPod line (I don't need the phone and 2yr commitment to AT&T). But this is really too much.
I have to stop reading, as people in neighboring cubes are starting to wonder...

This shows Apple that there must be a market just for the new Apple Digital Camera.

Wow, so quickly do people forget that Apple is currently not delving into the market for point-and-shoot consumer level digital cameras.
Frankly I couldn't care less about the overall image quality of the iPhone's camera, so long as it can take adequate to reasonably vivid shots of things I'd sooner just *relegate* to a camera phone rather than capture in a superior dedicated device. As long as it can capture enough details and color with good enough resolution....are we really going to sit here and nitpick and compare different phones? If the pictures it actually takes are grainy (like my Ericsson T610's horrible camera) then I can see the complaints. But c'mon.....it's a friggin phone, that does a great deal more things than take pictures.

this is by far the dumbest thread I have ever seen.. pure speculation.. total waste of time..
I'ts not pure speculation.
An Apple Product Mananger who specifically works on the iPhone posted a photo that was EXIF tagged with "Apple iPhone". The photos were removed shortly after discovery.

Make up some rumors already so we don't have to see this man-chick's mug anymore! :D
Forgot to add: The photo quality is excellent. Looks better than the 5mp Nokia N95 I saw reviewed. Very low noise and sharp. Nice.

Are they torturing us or something?
I think someone has a deranged sense of humor.

You guys are missing the point. This story isnt about the "quality" of the iPhone's built-in camera. Its just that the images were CREATED using the iPhone. If these are legit, its the first thing we've seen from iPhone ever, whether it be an application, wallpaper, ringtones, whatever.
Actually, one San Fransisco Starbucks employee received a prank call from Steve Jobs. That person has "seen" something from the iPhone.
Then there was that report a couple months ago about Steve being at a kids' soccer game leaning against a chain-link fence and talking on his iPhone. The crook who snapped the photo has "seen" something from the iPhone.
This is just the first direct confirmation of iPhones being out in the wild.

That's good. Other people most likely won't find it gross. No need to make a big deal about a picture. That last point goes for the rest of you as well.

Which is exactly when this thread should have been removed from the server.
It's obvious the person does not wish to become a center of attention among a bunch of losers like us here. And has it even occurred to you that he/she may indeed lose their job over this? What glory is there in that for MR!? Yes, the person was foolish to post these pictures in the first place, but I would expect MR editors to be a little wiser about the possible consequences.

Couldn't be helped, sorry.
As for the discussion about a person at Apple being fired over thses pics, the only way I could see that happening is because they don't exactly show the iPhone's camera abilities at their best, as I am sure Apple would like to do.

Also Peace, you'd hate to see my parents freezer right now. Why you ask, I'll tell you: 150lbs in Ground Beef, Roasts and Stakes. MMMM BEEF!!!!
I only do this to make a point, no one asked you about your eating habits, no one cares about your eating habits. That simple.

Right - it's a great camera if the main debate is about whether the subject of the photo is a man or a woman.... ;)

Maybe the fact that I have a 13MP DSLR makes me not care about the image quality that my phone produces images at.

Should you guys really be reporting on this when the person in question is likely to get fired because of it? I mean, publishing rumours is on thing, but haven't you guys ever heard of ethics in journalism? It would be simple enough to state that "Mac Rumours has independentally confirmed that the photos are authentic" without publishing the department and team on which the person works. Don't most journalists usually refrain from outting thier sources in the interest of integrity and their effort to preserve effectiveness of the First Ammendment? ThinkSecret went to court to preserve this right for all of the rumour sites and you guys have just sort of tossed that effort out the window with this one. I'd advise any Apple insiders to stay clear of providing content to you guys in the future.
Oh, there's so much to pick apart here.
First, I don't think they're outing the source, because the source isn't the person who took the pictures. The source is the person who found the pictures on Flickr.
Second, regarding the "ethics in journalism": Considering you didn't write like a journalist, I'm assuming you aren't actually a journalist and you don't have quite as much authority regarding ethical guidelines as you've implied. I'm in the same boat so I can't point out exactly what the difference is between your version and the real one, but I would be very surprised if this was an example of MR violating some universally recognized code of ethics for journalism. These pictures were not sent in by a whistleblower who wanted to expose corruption, they were from a person who found some publicly available images after cleverly searching for a certain string.
Third, regarding the statement: "I'd advise any Apple insiders to stay clear of providing content to you guys in the future." Are you a lawyer as well as a journalist? Most people who assume a lot of authority in several specialized areas tend to have very little authority in any area.
& OMG ... that is one UGLY piece o' toast !! (quivers)

You'd think his manna meter would be going up. I also find it interesting that he has an iPhone and toast in his inventory and he's able to use both at once! Everything I've read indicated that the iPhone would be a two-handed item, like the Bastard Sword.

I imported the photo into iPhoto. All the EXIF data came with it. I turned on iPhoto's GeoTagging (InfoPanel.nib) and it looks like the iPhone doesn't support GeoTagging. That's disappointing.
