ah, come on, it's saturday already. just got to make it through today, sunday, and then monday morning. not too hard. i am all for it :)
it will be great to get a surprise on the day of the event, especially is steve announces the same specs as were 'leaked' on the site. on the other hand, if they don't change the box (odds?) i want to know now so i can get a ticket to SF to go and vandalize the place

Stevo's keynote is a sacred ritual in the mac world. Heck, when I get home from classes monday, I'm not even going to check the rumor sites or apple.com, just gonna sit back and watch the streamed keynote, and let Steve intice and wow me with his masterful presentation. Its half the fun of getting new machines! :D

Wow, that's been a hard question. I really had to think about it a few minutes before I voted for as soon as possible.

As much as I enjoy watching the rumor pages and seeing/hearing leaks....I can manage waiting two more days. I'm just glad that Apple is finally announcing the "G5"....even though I have a feeling its going to be weeks before they are delivered.
Seeing Apple's nice glossy photo always looks nicer and closer to the real product than some of the leaked images I have seen in the past.

Steve always gives a masterful presentation.... It'll be more fun to wait I think... Does any other tech company generate this kind of excitement??? It's so cool being a Mac user!!! :D

I want to see them now
Its like being a kid again at xmas. You just can't handle all the expectation but somehow you make it through and then, when you think you've got everything your going to get theres a wicked little gift at the bottom of the pile that you love.
I reckon Steve's loving all the G5 hype 'cause he's a little gadget up his sleeve that we'll all love.
Bring on the Stevenote:D

i guess it is easy for us now! to say, that we would rather wait until the event...
but be honest now... how about six weeks ago? or a couple of weeks ago as we have heard about mysterious boxes being delivered... i guess some of you (i voted to see those killer machines ASAP) would change your vote, no?

I agree. The first thing I'm going to do on Tuesday (local time) is stream the keynote. I don't want to look at apple.com, and I don't want to look at any rumour sites. I'll watch the keynote, then visit apple.com to learn more, and only then come to MR to see what you all think.
And then I've got an exam at 1:00 :(

We should have a thread that says will the Real Powermac please stand up???

i guess i'm fine with not-seeing-it if none of you sees it before monday. ;)
what makes this so thrilling for me right now (and yes: this scares me!) is to be among the first to see it. no matter when.
i just couldn't stand to miss anything being leaked at this point.
i'm really convinced that theres so much future to come at this point.
actually i think G5s are rather unimportant for what i think will come. they're "just" faster computers in the end.
hopefully nice looking though.
anyway. the reason i'm here is the chance to get an idea what will come. whatever that is.
if pictures, screenshots, detail are kept secret i don't mind.
but if you know, i want to know!:D
at this point i'm convinced that there will always be something left for surprise on monday.;)

They have to save *something* so that Steve gets to say "Oh, and one more thing..." otherwise, the Reality Distortion Field collapses and we wake up to find that we're all using Windows XP with the Aqua theme.

I enjoy the analysis people provide on various boards and the expertise they sometimes bring. I find value in reading broad predictions for which way Apple is heading. However, I find no value in seeing details leaked a day or three before a keynote. Those leaks are pointless.

My vote: I wanna know everything ahead of time. I'm the type that reads movie reviews before seeing the movie, even though they sometimes give away too much of the plot. I'm always thirsty for information and it's fun feeling like an insider by knowing the scoop before the "hoi polloi" do.

being the sort of person that is keenly interested in rumors i had to vote YES!! i want to see tha photos as soon as possible. but until Monday they are still really rumors... but then if more photos were posted, then when they are released you'd be like "cool, so-and-so was right!!"

I voted yes, I've been waiting for so long.
As far as the excitement thing goes...well, it would be nice if we were ahead and had something this exciting to look forward to. If things go on their current track, hopefully sometime in the next 18-24 months we will not only be ahead but looking for another leap like this.....like .9 or .09 or whatever nm/mn M&M QP 990s at 8 GHz and (due to the profit synergy) priced under 3k. Yeah, biyotch! :p

There is a certain pleasure in being wrong and reading the ramblings of the misinformed. Remember all of the conjecture about the Cube. I think back then everybody sided with MOSRs' report, but in the end none of the leaked photos were correct and the majority of the commentary, less that of the internal structure, was wrong. I am as guilty as the rest.
It's like Christmass. It just isn't as much fun if you know what your going to get. That seems to be echoed above, but I am sure that there are thoes that like sneaking a peek.

What, phrases like "when my comp gets obsolete I'll buy a $300-500 upgrade"? Yeah, that's usually a sure indication that you're high. Yes, even if you're a PC user.
I know it's hard to comprehend the concept of having hardware that's worth the box its shipped in for the PC weenies that have been coming out of the woodwork lately, but that's why there are more and more Apple stores opening all over the country...and soon, THE WORLD! MUWAHAHAHAAHAH!!!
I wish they'd all quit trying (vainly) to rain on our parade. I know they all think we live in a closet with our iMacs and iLife SW, but in this instance it is they who are on notice. Funny to see them squirm... See you on Monday!

I would rather see the photos already but anyone who posts them is sure to have their server go down after the act. WWDC is just a conference to me. 2 photos of the new G5 PowerMacs have already surfaced and for all we know it could really be one of them. The right one has been featured in more photos so far but the design of the left one seems obviously more Apple-like.
I hope it is the left one, if only for its resemblance to the Cube.

Actually, that wasn't too obscure, I knew what you meant, but you saw that ipodonly bozo, didn't you? It seemed like as soon as he was gone five other PC weenies showed up...anyway. They'll have egg on their faces soon enough...or, not soon enough? Never soon enough, but soon.

The cases are full of holes because of the increased air flow requirements, which had to be optimized to handle the heat while keeping the noise level down. The result: a highly functional case that won't win any beauty contests. What puzzles me is that they showed it off as if it had won such a contest, like having Phyllis Diller pop out of a birthday cake.
If the front and back of a tower can't be decorator beautiful, then the eye candy must be on the three remaining sides (top, left, right). Time to get those programmable lights into the cases!

Time to get those programmable lights into the cases! i think the cases are plenty pretty. i disliked the other ones. they seemed elaborate and wasteful of space. i like the streamlined handles on this one, and while i don't especially like the front end, it's still pretty cool. it's nice and simple.

The G5 PowerMac cases may not be pretty but they are definately unique in their design's style.
The Apple PowerMac is now a machine, powerful and reliable for its long life-span. It stands apart from lesser computers and it should have its own line of screens made from the same materials. Now that the Apple's Pro line is completely metalic it seems complete.
The plastic Macs could now to with the return of colours, the way they were after the CRT iMac's introduction. Strangely I think the Flower Power iMac idea would work better with the LCD models.

I think that the new design is awesome. The more I look at that brushed Aluminum case the more I become attached. The strength of the outside goes along with the inside strength!

When I was in the Apple store on monday I finally saw the new G4 case in person, and it's even prettier than I thought, I mean it's really gorgeous. I like brushed metal and all (I even had outlet plates made of brushed aluminum at my old place) but I don't think the new cases are pretty.
Now, I'm not saying it's not a good design....but I hope the case gets updated with a little more Apple flair as the G5 matures. A little chrome on the aluminum (aside from the logo) would look good...or some grooves...or something...it's just too straight for my taste.

That's what everyone is saying - it is better in person.
But I still have my doubts... how much better could it look?
Its pretty damn ugly if you ask me.
There are many a PC case that I would take over it any day.

To see a G5 PowerMac in person would be proof that the 970 is not vaporware. I think the case design emphasizes the next-gen approach taken with the motherboard, CPU and OS.
You know what should happen to Kid A? He should be given a role in the next Star Wars movie. That would be poetic justice for all you jealous hypocrites ;)
