I wish I had called this girl back... She called me twice and wanted to meet me again, but I blew it..! I think about her at least once a week since three years...
well, my fault *beats his head against the wall* :(
I wish I hadn't wasted so much time on this forum and instead have got me an internship after college graduation...
aaaaaarrrgghhhhh!!! *beats his head against the wall again* :( :( )
I wish I hadn't sold my cute tangerine iMac DV400 before I went to college in the U.S.
I wish I had brought my SE/30 with me to Germany... it's so hard to get one over here (I hope that little fella has a good time with my roommate's parents :) )
there's more, but that's all I'm gonna tell you...

That said. I wish I could redo all of April 1998!!:)

i wish i'd had more of a sack in high school to really piss people off... the one near beating just doesn't seem enough for a guy like me
likewise, i wish i'd been able to realize how big a joke high school is, and try to get more out of it where i could, and not care as much where it didn't matter...
i wish i'd have played golf more than one year in high school.
at times i wish i'd have gone to a more "normal" school for college... but i don't think i would have liked it overall. frats make me vomit, as does the college scene in general. but the grass and sports facilities might have been nice... of course, wouldn't have made the friends i did and my girlfriend. ;)
i wish i'd have not sold out a particular friend in grade school for the cool kids.

I honestly don't regret anything in my life. The way I see it, everything that has or hasn't happened has gotten me right here, where I am...and for that, I'm very grateful.

That's my point. Any goal I've set for myself I've accomplished thus far. I always go with the notion that whatever happens, happens because it's part of getting me to where I need to be. ;)

I try not to look back, there is nothing that I can do about it now. Like others I'm a product of those past experiences. Dwelling on the past can be painful!

Not a thing. I am who I am because of all the good things and the bad things that have happened in my life, every mistake has added to who I am. For example at first glance I should not have bought that crappy camaro in college that always broke down, but if I hadn't I would have made it to school the day of the physics test, I wouldn't have had to retake physics, I wouldn't have met my wife, I wouldn't have my two wonderful kids. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't change a thing.

Probably the biggest thing I regret not doing, is going to college full time when I was younger, and getting done with it.
I have 2 kids now, and working full time, which makes it hard to go back for more education. However, in order to remain "marketable" I will need to get more education.
Ah, well. I probably would have partied too much any way, so its probably best I do it this way. :)
I aso regret selling my first car- a 1971 chevy Nova, with a 350 small block, and a Powerglide transmission. mmmmm, burnouts :D

That's my opinion too. I like who I am and I wouldn't be who I am if I hadn't done what' I'd done.
You learn more by doing something wrong than by doing something right so I look at all my "bad choices" as learning experiences not things to be regretted.

I wish i could have skipped going to private school. I wish I would have gone to Murchison instead.
I would have been less shy when I met lots of people.
I would not be nice to a lot of people just because other people weren't nice to them. I've found there is often a reason why lots of people are mean to a single person - they are annoying as hell (ie they call you every day (at least 5 times), follow you around everywhere, and stuff like that)
I wish I hadn't stopped doing things with 2 of my best friends. In 7th grade my best friend switched schools and we pretty much stopped doing things right after that. We got along so well together.
I haven't done anything with another one of my (best) friends whove I've known since I was 1 or 2. He got into football a lot (sophomore on the varsity team etc.), and I got rreally into computers so we have basically nothing to talk about or do together. I still regret not doing anything with him though.
We used to do things all the time before this point.
I regret being so antisocial. I still am - I never want to do anything. Doing something over the weekend 1/3 of all weekends is more than enough for me.

Scem0, if it makes you feel any better you are a social butterfly compared to me. I might go out w/friends once every couple of months. Of course I'm also working 2 jobs and working on 2 movies so I don't have much free time to begin with. :D But, overall, I just don't like being around people. Never have.

I regret not having sent my checking account number to the Nigerian banker who needed my help getting millions of dollars out of the country. I could have been quite rich by now from the share I was told I could keep. ;)
Other than that, I regret very little, so I must be content with my life. I know I'm lucky in that regard.

i wish i had laid with one of my ex girlfriends when she was crazy about me.
i wish i had touched everything I wanted when I was able too when I was with Steffi.
i wish i had punch so more people on their face in place of being polite when I was in highschool.
i wish i hadn't spend so much money in equipment I never used.
----
I think about that a lot and every time I'm acumulating less regrets in my life, it is hard because most of them are base of beign brave or less shy, at list mine.:)

i wish i was a little bit taller
i wish i was a baller
i wish i had a girl who looked good (i would call her)
...i've done some dumb stuff in my life. i've balked at certain academic opportunites that may have made me more financially secure, and i've wasted way too much time with certain members of the opposite sex. but in the end, i couldn't be where i am today if i hadn't made those mistakes. f'ing up is a good thing, at least in my experience.

OK...Who said you could quote SkeeLo on these forums???
(I did really like that song...Darn it! Not on iTms either)
Well, being only 21, I must take two paths in response to this forum. Firstly, I recognize that I am where I am in my life because it is supposed to be that way. I am grateful for God's blessings. I am happy where I am and where I am going. It is not healthy or good to rehash the past over and over again. Certian things that are so good in my life right now would be not happening or not going the same if I had done something different.
That said, I would like to have stayed in school, completely re-do 1996, not ate as much and excersised more over the last year. Saved some money and not spent as much on stupid things. I wish I had never sold my second car, but then again, I wish I had never crashed my first one. I wish I had been nicer to people around me. I wish I had never looked at porn. I wish I had never stolen anything. I wish I had learned to read music. I wish I had studied more. I wish I had ratted my brother out earlier when I learned about him doing drugs. I wish I had talked less and listened more.
But, all the wishing in the world can't really change the past. The important thing is to learn from the past, and the mistakes I made/make.
Thanks!

Nah...It dosent turn you into a hairy-palmed beast or anything. The thing is, unless you have some sort of disease/injury, you never really forget anything you see. It may not be in the front of your mind all of the time, but you never really forget it. I don't need images of random strangers having sex in my mind. I don't need/benefit from images of porn in my head. No matter what people may try to tell you, porn is not healthy (at least for me).
As a Chrisitan, I have the additional knowledge that my mind should be used for higher/better things. As a decent human being, I don't need to see women objectified and treated as sex objects. We are more than our base desires, and I would like to think I am trying to rise above (I fail quite often, but nonetheless) my baser instincts. People are more/better than mindless sexual animals. There is nothing wrong with sex, it is a beautiful thing, but we cannot be mere slaves to sexual desires. Looking at porn dosen't help me or my desire to rise above the mindless devaluing of my sexuality.
I don't want to debate on the (or lack of) merits of porn. I just wish I had never looked at it.
Thats all...

my blood pressure, at age 39 and slightly overwieght, is an amazing 120/80!!!
however, my cholesterol has gotten as high as 236, and back when i was underwieght, too
so i don't have the early signs of heart disease yet, but i don't take things for granted and realize that at some point it will catch up with me so i don't eat junk food as if i will live forever...like i did in my teens and early 20s (man, i miss pizza by the pound)
that's another thing that sucks with the first signs of not being a kid...you can't just eat anything you want and as much as you want because at my age, it will show and in many cases, it will kill ya:rolleyes:

Wish I hadn't:
Ever called Rebecca after finishing college. I want my money back!
Wish I had:
Pulled my head out of my butt a little sooner in life than I did. (Backstory: I jr. high, I had it bad for a gal named Kristin. But I was too much of an pimply, Apple ][ geek, and she totally hated me. Six years later, I wasn't really a geek anymore, and had long since moved on to other women. One day she plops down next to me in class and asks me who I'm going to homecoming with. I just ASSUMED she was being polite, since she must still think I'm a geek, right? Well, I tell her that I didn't have a date yet. Neither did she, she tells me. I move along and later tell me friends, who proceed to knock me upside the head. I call Kristin that night, who - it turns out - had been asked by some one else after school that day. My date ended up being crap.)
My wife tells me that I am still this oblivious to people coming on to me. I guess she should be happy about that. None of this matters, since I'm pretty happy with everything the way it has worked out.

On the subject of regrets, I always find my regrets are based on stuff I didn't do, not stuff I did, so taking the bunny boiler home after the gig and spending six months trying to get rid of her is a character-building experience (OK, so she tried to kill me), but not talking to her in the first place would have caused more regret in the long run (man, she was beautiful:( )
However, I sort of regret not ducking that last swing she took with the lamp...:D

are we? Something to think about:
are we conditioned by our past, or the result of what we strive to be?
anyway - i don't have any regrets. Mistakes only become regrets if you don't learn anything from it (imho), and regret can be a dangerous thing. Any thing that i've done that has been a mistake, i try to figure it out and work out what went wrong and where, then deal with it and move on. I suffer from seasonal affective disorder, and the worst part of it for me is the depression - when you're depressed for environmental reasons (not actual events), regret and looking back over your life can be a really dangerous thing and get you in a huge pit. You can convince yourself that you're the spawn of satan and that no-one would ever want to speak to you again, so you become a complete recluse which is so stupid because at times like that you need your friends the most.
The past is gone and there's nothing you can do about it! Look back on the cool stuff, but don't let the crap stuff get you down.

It's very sad that you have to worry about AID's today! During the '60's and '70's the condom was mainly for protection of pregnancy. STD's not really common in teenagers and young adults, unless practicing risky behavior (drugs or prostitution) At least there was no fear with the young people that I grew up with, STD's were not discussed. I personally had no sex till my wife. I don't really have experience using a condom!

i sometimes wonder if there is something in some other religions, who i won't mention here, that have something in it that devalues and objectifies women
i wonder if the treating of a woman as a sex object leads to bad treatment and the glass ceiling effect in pay scale
at least, in america, women can vote and that has possibly shaped past elections, but overall we have a long way to go and maybe porn is one of many factors which keeps sexism alive
Phil Of Mac

It's stupidity that keeps sexism alive, not porn.
Trust me.
I look at plenty of porn, but I have lots of respect for many women. Now, if a stupid person goes and looks at porn, he might think of women as sex objects, because stupid people can't separate sexual fantasy from reality. Since I'm not a stupid person, I can separate sexual fantasy from reality.
In reality, sexism is just part of the stupid idea that we should think of people not as individuals, but as part of a collective, be it a gender collective, a class collective, a race collective, or something else. Collectivism is the product of stupidity.
I think most problems are the result of stupidity :)

There is an element of the fantasy in it as not all women do what the women in porn do nor look like them just as not all men are as well-endowed as most male porno actors.

i think there are many factors which lead to sexism in this country...i can't speak for other countries i have not lived in...but i think one large step to eradicate sexism would be for the usa to have a female president
when i lived in london in the 80s, i was amazed that the pm was female and it made me ask why america couldn't do that...at that time, i think any male candidate in the usa, no matter how bad, could have beat a great female candidate
but now that people have seriously considered elizabeth dole and hilary clinton, america is starting to come closer to having a female president
of course when that happens, and it will in my lifetime, she will still have to worry about a sexist press giving more attention to her wardrobe than her policies:rolleyes:

Same with jokes about the "first gentleman". Once Elizabeth/Hillary/Whomever finishes her term and we eventually have another female president, it'll become routine, the press and the public will stop making it out to be an important issue, and we'll be where we want to be: electing the best man for the job, even if he's a woman.

Actually there are many that would argue that porn has helped free women sexually, not enslave them further. Doesn't matter really though because I don't view it, but sex is power and that is something that woman have.....

the sexual revolution had its good points and bad points
before the sexual revoltion, which some say started with dr. kinsey in the late 1940s, many did not know that women can enjoy sex and that sex was thought as just for men...very little was known about pregnancy and if the girl got pregnant she was blamed and the boy got off scott free and rarely had to be resposible for his actions...today, the court will at least protect the girl and not let the boy walk off as easily...but there's still progress to be made
but on the bad end of the revolution, so much of the media today focusing on female sexuality has made, or retained, some women as sex objects...no mateer how great brittney spears aspires to be as a musician, she will always be marginalized as a sex object/sex kitten first, and many will not take her seriously
a man can be a sex object and be more likely to get respect as a musician/artist than a woman
as great as madonna is an an artist and producer, her sexuality will get in the way of her legacy as compared to if she were a man...if she were male, she would be generally considered as a genius first before anything else

I think it's gone too far. In many US states, whoever the mother says is the father is assumed to be the father, and carries the burden of proof. There are lots of inequalities both ways in the system.

The busy cursor used by Disk Copy was the dogcow with its tail wagging, and it did a back flip every once in a while. If anyone has an animated gif of that one, please post it.
A twist on the original topic:
I'm glad I did the following:
Realized early in my life that some things are worth skipping class and taking a day off for.
Travelled as much as I could and as often as I could
Got lost on purpose in Paris twice and met great new people because of it.
Chose to be a musician rather than an engineer or a scientist.
I joined the Boy Scouts
I went to all of my proms and formals
Lived in Oregon, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Nebraska
Decided, on a whim, to go to doctoral school where I met my wife
Learned to listen to other people, rather than just try to think of what I was going to say next.
My only regret. Not being there when Stacey needed someone who would stop her from doing what she did. I will miss her until the day that I die.
Regards,
Gus

I often regret whenever I realize that I have been acting emotionally retarded. (too often. :D)
I sometimes regret when I think about things I did which hurt other people. (I used to regret this more than I would like to say. Forgiving myself for past mistakes has been an often-difficult work-in-progress).
I have often had regrets about the women I have known who were interested in me and whom I were interested in and for being so mixed-up as a kid that I did not know how to relate.
I really have been dumber than a rock about relationships.
But at the end of the day I am still grateful that I have had the experiences that I have. I think they have only made me a bit wiser about my life and how to be more compassionate. And I believe that any lesson that promotes wisdom can only be a good thing.

call me corny... ;)
I feel the same way. I feel like if I had done something different in the past, it might have affected how things are now. (What's the short story? "The Time Machine" or something, where the person touches a butterfly or plant or something and it messes everything up in the present.)
BUT...I wish I had saved more money before I got married and I wish I had gotten my Kia repaired after my car accident instead of buying a new Hyundai. Note location before flaming, please. ;)

Thanks, über. Yup, the Apple Store in Santa Monica, CA is finally going to open (Friday July 11, 2003, 6pm). I'll be there with bells on. Unless they frisk you for bells at the door.
Hey, everyone! I heard that they will be giving away free G5s to the first 1000 people in line. OK, OK, maybe not. I'm just trying to drum up business for Apple.

I wish I hadn't of ****ed around in school staring in the 7th grade.
I wish I looked at more porn before I lost the broadband.
I wish I spent less money on stupid crap and saved it for when I needed it (like to pay for the broadband.)
I wish I had finished Animal Liberation, since it seems so wrong to start a book halfway through.
I wish I had gone to camp last summer.
I wish I had done things last year with my friends.
I wish I hadn't of tried to emulate one of those friends.
Now, for the flip side:
I'm glad I still hang out with that friend.
I'm glad I quit the band.
I'm glad I have learned what I have.
I'm glad my parents are so young.
edit: There are a few more:
I'm glad I bought those Morning Glory seeds.
I'm also happy that I listened to Justin, and bought that Sigur Ros CD. (Listening to it now. If it weren't for that CD being so realxong, I would have totally flipped out by now.)
I regret not going to the doctor soon for my 'issue.' I think that if I had gone sooner, surgery would not have been necessary.
I am also happy that I stopped going to church. That place was so corrupt, and the pastor so damn, well, such a Facist that I wonder what I would be like had I satyed and been Confirmed...

Well, like many over here, I really don't regret that much I did or didn't do in my life. Well, I'm only 25 so there's a lot of life left in me (well, at least I hope there is).
But the things I do enjoy now having done earlier in my life are:
- Stretching my studies for nearly eight years (when I could've finished them in four), since that's where I met my girlfriend (would never have met her had I indeed finished in four years). Love her a LOT.
- "Keep in contact with old friends. Enjoy a drink now and then." ;)
- Seeing my sister quite often. Love her to death and wouldn't want to miss her for the world.
- Getting along fine with my parents. I'm also very grateful for the way they raised me. Most of my parents' friends are saying they have such nice children (being my sister and me). I have to agree (not wanting to sound egotistical), since we're really quite social and 'normal' in a positive way. Can't say that of some (young) people I know...
- Taking (ballroom) dancing courses when I had the chance. Still enjoy the things I learned then now and then, while my girlfriend really regrets not having taken any.
- Going to see Underworld in 1999 and seeing them play live for the first time in my life. That gig was soooooooo utterly brilliant. Just to see and hear them play "Spoonman"; ahhhh, goose bumps!
- I very, very happy that my dad used a Mac for his job back in 1984. Have never used a PC at home of owned one of those machines (PCs, that is) myself. Been Mac-only (at home, at least) all my life.
- I'm alsy very happy (maybe even more so than about being a Mac user) that I got interested in good music when it wasn't too late. Otherwise, I would never have liked Radiohead, BoC, NIN and/or Primal Scream the way I do now.
Come to think of it, there IS one thing I do regret:
- A girl I knew once was quite offended (half faked, half seriously) that she didn't receive any Valentine's Day cards. She said that quite directly to me. I knew should have sent her one. She was an awesome girl. I just didn't have the guts. :(
