Well, it is 12:43 AM on Tuesday 1 May here in Seoul, Korea, so it is time for the new thread.

Here's my latest. It's Lord of the Rings, available from InterfaceLIFT.

Ok, last months thread wasn't too bad, let's see if we can make this one even better by repeating this:

A few requests (for this and future Desktop threads):

- When posting a large image, please, please, use [timg] tags to make a clickable thumbnail of your image!

- when quoting a post with an image, please remove the image (if you quote a recent post) or - at least - change the image into a [timg] or even a [url] in the quote (if you quote an older post).

This will help make the thread more readable for most screen sizes and internet connection speeds!

PS! My desktop is the same as last month (http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=71266&d=1175366270).

I'm using on of the Apple defaults... Apple images > bottom-left one. The blue squares. I usually change my background every other day though. :)

Edit: It's still April here.

Aaaalright, you are gonna have to give us more than just "-" regarding how you did that see-through mess on the message window, unless it's some trickery.

Ha! "-" was there just because it required me to type at least one character to make the post. But no complicated trickery here! :D Okay, in Adium's preferences click the "Messages" tab. At the bottom, click "Use custom background" and select "Color". From there you select what color you want and use the Opacity slider to get the transparency. Hope that helps. :)

Ordered a macbook a few days ago but its not here yet...finally found exactly the wallpaper i was looking for though. It's a Takamine shot straight down the neck over the bridge...and looks very similar to my own Tak.

I think the photographer also edited it in photoshop to get the contrast right. The left and right sides of the body look like wisps of smoke...very nice picture.

To get your name in the menubar... System prefs > Accounts > Unlock the padlock (bottom left of window) > Logon Options > Enable fast user switching

The progam I use to control iTunes is Synergy (http://wincent.com/a/products/synergy-classic/)

And the program to the left of MSN Messenger is Adobe CS3 (That particular icon is photoshop) Its actually a slighty modified version of the default icon for the new CS suite.

However, the one at home on my Mac has been the same since I bought the computer. It's a tradition for me going back several computers. I wish it was a little Higher Res now, but I can't change tradition.

This morning (8th may 2007) I casually plugged all my external hard drives to my iBook for a while, and I decided to do a little screenshot..

From the top to the bottom:
1) "iPooh HD": the internal hard drive (40GB) of my iBook;
2) "Recipiente": this is a 5MB read/write .dmg image where I save some temp stuff (mostly some .webloc to visit when I connect to the web..); it mounts automagically at startup thanks to a little applescript and keep my desktop clean;
3) LaCie Porsche Design 40GB USB 2.0 (inside: Western Digital 2.5' HD 4200 RPM);
4) MacPower Pleiades FW400 + USB 2.0 (inside Seagate HD 500GB);
5) CoolerMaster X-Craft Black USB 2.0 (inside Hitachi HD 250 GB).

All the icons are made by me except the iPooh HD one, that comes from the web..
Enjoy :-)

ps. please notice the great fantasy I have into naming my hds eh eh eh :)

clevin,

yes, its Feisty Fawn :) , i have both firefox-linux and firefox-windows (installed and runs through wine). Just because I like the theme of netscape 9, which is only available for windows and mac versions of firefox, no linux version :(

FSviewer is a file manager from windowmaker (a linux desktop environment, which looks like OpenStep alot), since its very similar as the finder in OSX, so I give it that icon.

sorry not intended to confuse ppl, its just too few clue on a screenshot, im sure you won't have any problem ID it if I have any window open on the desktop.:D
why did you choose to run Linux on your mac? Not that I mind, I run it myself in parallels (testing only), but I'm just wondering why you would do away with OSX?

I did not run linux on my MB, which does not have enough space for another OS, this is my Acer laptop, My MB is waiting for repair due to two hardware problems.

I do, however, use linux more frequently in recent days, I like to try new things, and tried linux many times before, mostly ended up giving them up, but this time, Ubuntu 7.04 is unbelievably solid, at least so far, and I really enjoy the flexibility of linux and its 3D UI. Right now, My linux machine (which also has vista on it, lol) meets all my need, (ripping DVD is especially easy :D )

Im not going away from my MB (and mini), I guess I will just be triple OS user until someday in the future I really feel one of them is much better than other two. right now, OSX and Linux are very close to each other in my situation.

Curious....did you have to do some hacking to get Ubuntu to recognise Airport and Battery and overall how does it run?. Also are you running this on Parallels or dual booting via Bootcamp???

read the detail above, I did not run ubuntu on my MB. AFAIK, Ubuntu will support wireless of rev A MB out of box, but will have trouble with C2D MB's wireless card, u will need to manually install driver for it (possibly through ndiswrapper)

I decided to make a really abstract background this month, so after about half an hour in photoshop here's what I came up with. I think it's pretty cool.

he's making his big league debut, and i was going to put a black screen for mourning for everything this month, but it felt depressing, so i decided i do something a bit on the hopeful side. salty making his debut tonight, here's a pic of him in spring training this year.

AWESOME. Salty is amazing just as he was in the minors!

It is a vinyl record :)

The developer of CoverSutra posted it to her development blog a while back as an alternative to the CD jewel case that is the default. Here's a link:

The message window theme is Milk Mokie (http://www.adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=xtras&xtra_id=1346) - the OPE (One Protocol Edition) which hides the service icons, for a more minimal look. Using the INSTALL link doesn't seem to work, so if you decide to use it, be sure to click on the DOWNLOAD link instead. From there open the .ZIP file and double-click the individual themes to install them into Adium.

To hide the Toolbar icons, open a chat window by double-clicking a username in your contact list. Then click View up in OS X's Menu Bar, and click Customize Toolbar. When the new window opens, click on the the box next to the word Show at the bottom left of the window and choose Text Only.

Hope that helps. :)

Sorry guys for the late answer, here is all the stuff and thanks for comments ;)
The bad news for me is that Mac OS X don´t like rearrange of desktop icons i have to use Destility to get back my icons to that place avery time that i reboot.

Theme: UMASO (http://interfacelift.com/themes-mac/details.php?id=180)

Icons: Mix of CHUMS (http://interfacelift.com/icons-mac/details.php?id=1795) and Matrix Rebooted (http://iconfactory.com/freeware/preview/mtxr) and BOX is part of Xpack (http://interfacelift.com/icons-mac/details.php?id=1601) Icons. Beautiful ones all they!

Wallpaper: by vhm Alex (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/53895639/)

If someone discovered how to retain desk icons in the same place every time that you reboot let me know it please, with no help of Desktility ofcourse.
