Seriously, Cave Story is awesome. Who cares if a Japanese guy wrote it? You know that wildly popular game, Super Mario Brothers? I have news for you... a Japanese guy wrote that too! Same goes with a lot of games out there.

If you don't download and play the Marathon Trilogy, you might as well just sell your Mac and buy a PC.

It was Quake-level game tech but released just before Doom 2 came out, if I recall. You could look up and down, grenade jump, use dual-fire weapons, all sorts of very funky stuff that was years ahead of other FPSs. By the standards of the time the controls were massively complex (meaning you needed more than the seven bindings that were necessary to play Doom like a pro). Two triggers

Haven't played it in a decade - might need to give it a whirl when I'm done with STALKER.;)

I definitely second gridwars (http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/grid/GridWarsOSX.zip). Also Solitaire XL (http://lavacat.com/) and NS Mine (http://www.epicware.com/nsmine.html) are fun classics.

For more adventury type things there's the Avernum series (http://www.avernum.com/avernum/) and Escape Velocity Nova (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/), both of which are pretty old but still very fun, but both of which you have to pay for...

That's the only thing mac hasn't built up on yet as far as their creativity goes. many gamers only have a PC because of the lack of mac games.

Still gotta love mac.

Look up - Up-arrow
Search (or look down in midair) - Down-arrow
Jump - Z
Fire weapon - X
Change weapon - A (back) and S (forward)

Hide & Seek is always fun. I have a 100% unbeaten record against my iMac, but my Mighty Mouse is a cunning bastard!

The tech was definitely ahead of its time (Halo still contains an evolved version of the Marathon engine), but Marathon was loved because of its ambience, story, and incredible multiplayer. The game made you feel like you were there, and it boasted an intricate plot that I have yet to see any shooter match in terms of complexity.
