Apple has posted (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/securityupdate2007004v11universal.html) version 1.1 of their 2007-004 update (http://www.macrumors.com/2007/04/19/apple-releases-security-update-2007-004/) released earlier this month.
The new update (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305445) incorporates the following fixes, in addition to those provided with the first update.
AirPort
Available for: Mac OS X v10.3.9
This update corrects an issue where the AirPort connection may be lost after waking from sleep. This issue only affects Mac OS X v10.3.9 with Security Update 2007-004.
FTPServer
Available for: Mac OS X Server v10.4.9
Security Update 2007-004 applied an incorrect ftp configuration file for Mac OS X Server v10.4.9 systems. Users with ftp access, who would normally be restricted to certain directories, may be able to access directories outside the normal scope. This update addresses the issue by restoring the correct version of the ftp configuration file. This issue only affects Mac OS X Server v10.4.9 with Security Update 2007-004.
In addition, Apple posted Quicktime 7.1.6 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime716formac.html) updates:
QuickTime 7.1.6 delivers numerous bug fixes, addresses a critical security issue with QuickTime for Java and includes support for:
- Final Cut Studio 2
- Timecode and closed captioning display in QuickTime Player
This update is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users
The Quicktime update fixes the exploit discovered (http://www.macrumors.com/2007/04/21/macbook-hacking-contest-won-10000/) in the $10,000 MacBook hacking contest that was won 10 days ago.
Finally, Apple also released the Airport Extreme 2007-003 updater, which "is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers and includes compatibility updates for certain third-party access points configured to use WPA™ or WPA2™ security."

The QuickTime one mentions that it contains a security update for QuickTime and Java. Looks like Apple have just closed that attack vector anyway. Well played :)
This (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2007-2295) one and this (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2007-2296) one, in case you were wondering.

It would be cool to have another competition for hacking...and again and again...just to prove that mac hacks are all patched before release...and to see how many exploits can be found...

About AirPort Extreme Update 2007-003
This update is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers and includes compatibility updates for certain third-party access points configured to use WPA™ or WPA2™ security.

Wait, SUPPORT FOR CLOSED CAPTIONING in Quicktime Player?
PLEASE PLEASE, GOD I hope this means closed-captioned video downloads coming soon to iTunes. As a hearing impaired user, iTunes video downloads are useless to me. But if they support captioning, I will buy a bunch just to support a company that actually captions the video they sell.

I have to admit, I was tired of reading all the negative responses by Windows fanboys about the Quicktime flaw, which they blew up into an OS X flaw. Not that I think that OS X is a mightly fortified, but it will be nice to see silence ... if that's possible. :D

Does the closed caption thingy mean that all of us international users can finally watch a movie with subtitles, even on our iPods?
If that's true, it'll be great. It only took apple 20 years or so. :p

When are they going to fix the WEP security so my DS will work with it?
c'mon Apple... how hard could it be? The only way I can connect with my DS is if I turn security off, not that I'm always going online with my DS, but man, that is a hassle.

This is GREAT to hear! My mom was having airport problems (exactly what was described in the update) ever since the last update. Tested the router and DSL line. Nothing. Was thinking her reconditioned aiport card might be going out. Hopefully she'll install this and things will be fine again.

Hm? Apple posted three versions of this update: for 10.3.9, PPC and Universal. The PPC and Universal versions are meant for 10.4.9 and I would have expected them to show up in Software Update.
The MacRumors Article also mentioned a wrong setting in the FTP setup in 10.4.9. Why wouldn't Apple want to fix that ?
EDIT: Oops, Sorry. Withdrawn, your honor... :-)
I, of course, misread the article... it said 10.4.9 SERVER...

I was going by the support doc for the Universal version which said "is recommended for all users" who have either 10.4.9 or 10.4.9 Server. I've just tried the PPC-only version which seems to have installed ok. Strange.

Good job, Apple. Let's see...MS windows had a mouse error discovered by MS about a year ago, just a month ago released a warning about it, and 2 weeks after that they released a patch that caused internal errors in vista! 10 days and Apple churned out a patch that doesn't harm anything, but fixes a moderate hole! Also, the wireless update seems to have made Safari faster...for me anyway...

All Apple did was change the numbers on the battery you already had! They didn't give you a new battery! They just changed the reading so 85% equals 127% now.

I haven't changed my WPA settings yet, and my Nintendo Wii connects just fine.
Anyway, the Apple Extreme "WEP (Transitional Security Network)" is not compatible with the Nintendo DS either. I have to turn off all security or put in the MAC address to keep my neighbors off, but then my router flashes YELLOW all day long if I want to go online with the DS.
It's an Apple issue, not a Nintendo issue. How hard would it have been to have a backwards compatible WEP security setting?

For anyone having trouble with the well-known "OMG, (insert update name here) hosed my Mac" syndrome, I have a question. Do you (a) just let your Mac sit there while it downloads and runs the update, or do you (b) carry on working?
If you answered (b) then you need to visit Unsanity's blog, here (http://www.unsanity.org/archives/mac_os_x/shock_and_awe.php) and read their analysis.
Definitely worth a read. I had long ago developed a "superstitious" fear of doing anything else while my mac updates itself but this article justifies and explains that fear. Apparently, there's a 100% reproducible bug on the prebinding (optimisation) that can render your mac unbootable. It's OK to carry on working while your Mac downloads an update and it's OK to carry on working while your Mac installs it but, while optimisation is running, do not touch anything and especially don't start any apps!

It's OK to carry on working while your Mac downloads an update and it's OK to carry on working while your installs it but, while optimisation is running, do not touch anything.
Thanks. Very good to know!
That syndrome is probably not the explanation of what I experienced yesterday, when the updater hung during the optimization bit. (Never did finish "optimizing", btw, but happily it came up OK after I rebooted from the command line.) I'm not wise in the ways of objective-C , so I don't know enough about prebinding to figure out what probably happened :/

it takes apple longer time to patch OSX than M$ to windows! I hope Apple will patch more often!
at the same time, each patch makes OSX more slower, apple, do your job!
Nothing about this is correct.

I agree that makes no sense what so ever. Infact people have been reporting speed increases w/ safari after this patch. Where are you getting your info?

If you answered (b) then you need to visit Unsanity's blog, here (http://www.unsanity.org/archives/mac_os_x/shock_and_awe.php) and read their analysis.
Holy crap! That's pretty freakin' scary!

Uh, this reminds me of Spinal Tap where all their amps go to 11 because thats louder than 10.
All Apple did was change the numbers on the battery you already had! They didn't give you a new battery! They just changed the reading so 85% equals 127% now.
"But major, 127% is better."
I may have exagerated the numbers just a little.
But Apple is giving me a new battery :D

Since I did the update the Adverts that appear in web sites (like this one) are now not working properly. I just see the Quicktime 'Q' with a '?' in the middle of it, seems like quicktime is broken for adverts?

Same thing here. Any idea how to fix this problem? Thanks...

True, but it is quite annoying to see all these Q's with question marks in them where there is supposed to be something else...Anybody have any ideas? Thanks...

When are they going to fix the WEP security so my DS will work with it?
c'mon Apple... how hard could it be? The only way I can connect with my DS is if I turn security off, not that I'm always going online with my DS, but man, that is a hassle.
if you set your security to an exact 13 character passcode it should work, that's how i have mine set up. but you also have to have it be b/g compatible otherwise it doesn't pick up a signal. and yes it does work, and yes i have an airport extreme.

Sounds like a Flash issue to me. Re-download Flash player from adobe.com?

It is a Flash issue, indeed. A reinstallation of Flash Player fixes it :)

nice heads up with the flash issue, i thought the same thing. i think its solely what apple did to the way quicktime acts with safari and in some instances camino. Firefox loads everything correctly. Example: go to adobe.com with both firefox and safari the top banner loads in one and not the other.

Ditto here. BTW, I had all the software updates current and definitely was NOT running any other apps during d/l, no apparent hang on optimisation, but when I went to my MySpace page and that of several others, the same image described above appeared wherever the player box on my page and friends' pages would normally appear. Just tested iTunes, no probs there.
Solution? Whatever it is, PLEASE keep it simple ;)
Thanks, all!

I already had Flash Player 9 for Power PC installed but went ahead & did a re-load. Still have same issue, no solution yet....

For others enduring the QT 7.1.6 update problems: I found these solution discussions at MacFixIt__

Considering the 7,000 hits on these two "work arounds" and the numerous Google hits on the 7.1.6 topic, we aren't the only unhappy campers. Of the solutions suggested at MacFixIt & MR, I've tried everything short of ditching all my plug-ins (root level deletions make me very nervous).
In the years of owning a Mac, I've never experienced this degree of difficulty after what ought to have been a simple update. Already, this "update" has cost me 2 +/- hours of time and anxiety and my laptop is still less than fully functional. Frankly, I don't consider myself enough of an advanced user to be attempting the suggested work arounds nor do I think it is the "Apple way". Only yesterday, I was bragging to a friend about how ordinarily easy updating Macs are compared to her continual struggles with her laptop from the Evil Empire.
I'll keep checking back, hoping someone finds a simpler solution to this less-than-perfect update to QT.

Ta, all.
Back again, hoping s.o. might have offered a K.I.S.S. solution or gone off on a good rant about the QT 7.1.6 update setback. No?
Another source of commiseration on the topic, can be found here:

Another writer here has already said this, but it bears repeating -- Maybe Apple will fix the fix if we offer a prize.... :D

There is one application that can be used to compress movie with Closed Caption into a format for the iPod and Quicktime Player. It works like a charm. I will never download movies or videos from iTunes since Apple does NOT support the Closed Caption Industry. :-(
Someone is wondering, "what application is this dude talking about?" It is a software that works on Window and Apple would not like it if I mentioned the name of this software. It is great. Apple will definitely lose a lot of $$$$ from the hearing impaired. The name of the software is "***Fab". I am sure that you can figure this one out. Just Google it along with video & closed caption. I am sure that something close to it will pop up in the results. You can format the video with or without the CC. Oh well, Apple. Too bad that you do not give a hoot about us. :-)
