That was just someone with WAAAAAYYYYYYYYY too much free time on their hands. IF Apple was to come out with a new PDA device, it would be using a more updated OS then newton (like OSX PDA). They would probably add a FireWire port to it as well, and include a way to sync with your iPod..
Those pictures get a B for a well made fake/mockup, but a F for truth factor.
If one more person mentions the iWalk, I'm droping the bomb.... :D

The motherboard is too big for the actual newton! Hahahaha, good try. But...
Eye, I think I shall join you!
*Grabs his Flamethrower*
I think I totally disagree with all this newton stuff now. Apple said NO NEWTON. SO DONT TALK ABOUT IT ANYMORE!
AlphaTech
Mar 17, 2002, 12:37 PM
As Mac_User says... Apple has said no newtons... but would they call a PDA a newton now???
Either way, I can't see Apple pulling resources from other areas just to make a device for so few people. I would rather see additional improvements to the iPod (NO pda type features please).
As so well put by Scarface... the next one to say that a PDA is in the works gets to 'say HELLO to my little friend' *BOOOM*

English muffin!! It's not English, and its not a muffin. These "New Newton-pics" aren't new, and they're not newtons, and I wouldn't even dignify them by calling them "pics", they're trash plain and simple! Can't we just drop all this Apple PDA crap, if Apple ever does come out with a PDA, you can't bet that it will be absolutely amazing, kill competition (and your wallet), and will be so revolutionary none of us can possibly imagine what it will look like.

Ummm...
i don't think these pictures purport to be a "future" newton but a prototype of a "past" newton. If you read the of the pics page, it states that the person acquired this from eBay from a person at a company that used to develop Newton apps.
This is an old Newton with Japanese characters. This is not a mock-up pretending to be a future release.

If you hate discussion of the future, inevitable PDA from Apple, then please just refrain from joining the discussion. There is no need to flame those of us who want such a product. There is no need for you to even participate in the thread.
It is childish to continually ask others to stop talking about something that interests them. Last I checked, there was no requirement to read and respond to every thread in this forum.

I doubt that because the computer is the digital hub, not the PDA. Apple would want you to sync with the computer.

It's not the wish for a PDA that is getting flamed. Heck, I think I speak for us all that somewhere deep down inside each one of us, we want Apple to release a PDA. In fact we want it sooooooo badly that posts talking about rumored PDAs draw us in, then when we find out it's just a joke, we tend to become anxious and frustrated. But, you're right we do need to lay off the PDAs (Public Displays of Aggression)

but it's my civil duty to continually jump in on this and give my simple 2¢...
I would never ask u guys to stop talking about it....but it just always seems like wishful thinking when the topic of an Apple PDA comes up...
I'm not against the idea...but I feel at times it's beating an already dead horse when looking too much into things....like images of an 8 year old PDA

Agreed, the pics are blantantly worthless, may their pixels be cursed and banned from the net.

Doesn't look terribly fireproof though! Besides paper-dolls are pretty flammable (especially when doused with gasoline) hehehe

At MacExpo London 2001 one of the stands had a PowerbookG3 that was put in a case like that, totally flat, it was exactly the same (Apart it was bigger)
This is the same thing, its just a flatterned out Newton.

Anyone who has used or seen a MessagePad 100 would recognize that screen setup any day. That's what it is-a disassembled OMP. By the way the copyright on the software is 1992-1994 from Newton and Sharp.

The newton...oh what an awesome machine. If only it was smaller, and maybe an iBook type colour.

despite advertising this as the new newton... I really enjoyed these pictures..
I was a big-time Newton collector... ( http://www.normalkid.com/collector ) - and have every newton/clone made except the Tarpon, and the Harris Access Device 2000.
I even had two prototype Newtons: Beta Newton Notepad - which is what the Newton Messagepad was called before a name change... as well as a beta Sharp Expertpad.
This unit is indeed a score...

I believe I recognize this but it has been a few years.
IMHO......It looks to me like a Newton MessagePad screen on the logic board of an eMate, making it perhaps an eMate prototype or a post eMate Franken-pad
What leads me to say this is that many parts of this board correspong to ports on the eMate such as:
1. The size and shape the logic board are consistant with several eMate features including:
2. The location of the serial port (I can't tell from the pictures if the IRDA port is present or not)
3. The location of the PCMCIA Slot
4. The large empty space behind the "*****ula" containing the serial port would correpsong to the large battery that the eMate used.
5. The speaker assembly & location
The way the screen is on the board is 180° from how it would sit inside an eMate.

No.. you're trying to make too much of it...
it's an early Newton Messagepad (original) prototype. It's running a beta Newton OS 1.0

Well thank God arn recognizes what it really is! You saved me a long-winded debunking speech. :D
I suggest if any of you guys thought this was a new prototype you buy an old MP and spend some time getting to know 5+ year old technology so you can recognize it in its exploded form.

Hmm.. Maybe there we should have (or find and link to) a Newton museum we can send people to so this doesn't keep happening.

Nice. :) Where's your 2100? If you don't have one, I suggest checking eBay... they've hit a big-time low recently! (From $250 six months ago down to $105!)
