here's where apple dropped the ball big time with iweb...it's nearly impossible to get the pages to work correctly on a non .mac, blah blah blah. currently, i'm working on my webpage (it's just a portal, so i just need one page to work really, and a second for submissions), and i see this code instead for the page:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

i corrected the code from the second poster's example, and it still shows error...this seems so impossible right now.

is there a way i can do a redirect for now?

okay, i fixed the code and it's just showing a blank page. here's the index code.

Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><HTML xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><HEAD><META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><TITLE>Atlanta Braves Links</TITLE><STYLE type="text/css">

i want the page to show up, but it's not showing. i need help.

okay, when i do the home page in my file manager, it shows up fine (less photo, but i can deal with that now, i just want this page up), but the site will just take you to a blank page. anyway to correct that?

here's the code for the home page right now.

Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><HTML xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><HEAD><META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><TITLE>Atlanta Braves Links</TITLE><STYLE type="text/css">

As for links, I would recommend just inputting them by hand. Before you embark on a web project, I would recommend learning a little bit HTML, enough at least to be able to read it and figure out what you need to change to manipulate it to your own needs.

I suggest this page: http://w3schools.com/html/default.asp

As for the links, basically I have them all set to "#" if you find the following pieces
HTML:
<a href="#">Link</a>

You can just change "#" to the proper URL.

i've since figured that out, but i can't for some reason make the page show up. the index code in my previous post is in the index, but it's just a blank page. help me please....

update: got it. for some reason, iweb doesn't put the full code of the homepage in the index file. that messed me up pretty good for a little bit.

okay, i think i got it now....it's just that iweb is very annoying at this...my homepage is up and i'm working to get the "add your link" page up shortly.

apple really dropped the ball on this one big time. took me a while to figure out the problems. i'll try to get the news section in, but that's lower on the priority list.

update: home page and links page are working as they are supposed to be. so that's it for right now, and if you want to grade it, go here: http://www.atlbraveslinks.com/

Nah, iWeb is really meant for personal use especially in conjunction with .mac. Juding by your content, I would say you don't want to use iWeb to make your website and it woudl be a good idea to learn HTML before embarking on the project.

A dynamic site like that (letting people add links) is best done with some sort of content management system (CMS) or simple php/mysql coding. And to customize any of those, some - although minimal - knowledge of HTML is required.

And to customize any of those, some - although minimal - knowledge of HTML is required.

i know what you mean, but i would think that it would be a bit easier to load it under .mac if it was under ilife. but i think it was poorly marketed, but you know what i mean.

and i'm the only one that can add links, they can submit their site for my approval (a form of quality control to keep the site from being overloaded with low quality sites). but i get what you mean...at least the site is just two pages, so it won't be too hard to work on (the news section will have to be axed for the time being). i'll still use iweb as a template of sorts to base my site on (i'm working on a player site for my cousin who's going to be in the nfl this season, and that's alot more than two pages). but i'm not going to upload the site straight from iweb. too much headache.

but at least i got the site up and it's working at least decently, which is good enough for right now (i will be working on the site though to change some stuff).
