I have a Palm Treo phone running PalmOS (I can't stand Windows Mobile,) and found the following free (as in beer) application the other day that's going to come in useful when my 10-20mm comes in...

http://www.dofmaster.com/ (the DOFMaster LE link)

There are Windows versions too, but no Mac ones. Having an HD calculator on a device I generally have with me when I'm shooting is going to be useful.

I know this is going to come across as very geeky, but calculating hyperfocal distance in your head isn't particularly hard - for wide angle lenses anyway.

f = focal length in mm
a = aperture number (e.g. for f/8, a=8. for f/11, a=11)

if your value for the circle of confusion is the commonly used 0.02, use n=50. if it's 0.016 (so-called Zeiss value, as recommended by Thom Hogan), use n=60 which is close enough.

hyperfocal distance in mm is ~ [f*f/a]*n

I use n=50 to make the math easy, and then nudge the result up some.

So if f=12mm, aperture is f/11, the hyperfocal distance is roughly 0.65m.
