View Full Version : can you explain the isight to me?

I guess I'm dumb, but can anyone help me understand what this thing does? Is it a webcam, or a video camera? People keep calling it a video camera, but when I hear that i think a device that can be picked up and used to shoot video away from a computer, then hooked back up to transfer. Whereas a webcam could only be used when connected to a computer. And this thing looks like a webcam to me, not a video camera (Now maybe my definitions are wrong, but please don't argue with me about technicalities - I just want to understand this thing in my own terms).

And if it is a webcam, can it take and *save* video rather than just stream it? So if I put one on my ibook and then took my ibook outside, could I record something just to save it as a movie, and not stream it? And to take it even further, could I simultaneously stream and record? Yes, I know that using an ibook + isight would be cumbersome as a video camera, but I'm really just curious.

i asked the same questions in "the isight thread" i'm hoping on a 3rd party app but i'm also doubting the quality of the video for some reason
