The full Quicktime stream (http://stream.apple.akadns.net/) of Steve Jobs' Keynote is available for those users who were unable to watch the live event. The stream demonstrates various aspects of Panther and shows the PowerMac G5 doing well in a number of benchmarks.

A reminder that the IRC Channel (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/06/20030608214842.shtml) will remain online even after WWDC. Ongoing chatter and discussions in the days leading up to the next major event. Special thanks to fanatic who was able to provide channel linkage to other IRC networks to spread the IRC broadcast to more readers.

:eek: Now I feel like a loser for not getting one right away. Do you know what the replacement will be yet or are you working on that. Also I was wondering if I contribute again before my contribution time is up will it just add another year to my time or will it start the time over effectively cutting my contributor status short?

Here it goes, well I guess macbidouille.com will be aknowledge for the quality of their rumors, even some of their performance tests published few weeks ago turn out to be correct......

Apple new G5 look so good, I will just dream of a lower-end dual G5 (2x1.6 or 1.8) since with this beautifull OSX it makes so musch sens to have 2 processors

Quicktime 6.3 seems to be unable to play the Keynote stream on my comp. It starts, continues for a sec and then freezes Quicktime Player.

Other streams are played fine...

I am having the same problem. It starts fine but than just freezes. What gives? I saw some clips on CNET using Real player that looked great. Again, what gives!

I'm so glad to hear there are others in my boat. I'm running the latest Mac OS X and Quicktime versions on an iBook. Plays for a second or so with the screen mostly green, then hangs, and must be force-quit.

Any other links or streams that I can look at? Where's that one on CNET? Ironic shame to have to use RealPlayer over QuickTime for an Apple keynote!

When i try to watch the Keynote... Its starts Quicktime Player, then a message saying something like this:"Could not start Playback because a file is not found" And it lists a ".mov" file that would normally be on Apples Website. But it appears that the file dosen't exist anymore.

Yeah, same problem, it crashes. I only get a green screen. I have all the latest updates on my iMac 1Ghz (which seems fairly slow now:-)

Had the same problem -- I had the 3ivx Codec installed - so I pulled that out from my Quicktime Library (Users->[username]->Library->Quicktime) to bring me back to vanilla QT6.3, rebooted (could probably have just restarted QT), and it worked fine.

Give that a try and let us know if it solves it for you. :D

Why does Apple think it has to fiddle with the spec tests? It's a good machine, but let's be reasonable here, they chose benchmarks which are not really fair, even worse than previous releases.

It's a great machine, I'm getting one, but I don't see why they have to, well, lie?

That you put together a pretty comprehensive site regarding your topic and I will be honest, I didn't read all of it. Manipulating test results is a common practice for everyone so you cannot trust any result regardless of the source. Incliding the SPEC people. They have an adgenda too.

Anyhow, one thing is certian. If in fact they DID demo A dual G5 vs. a Dual Xeon, nobody can deny that anyone making money with the applications they demoed that the G5 is the best tool for the job. Being stuck on numbers to me is nonesence. YMMV.

Anyhow, any thoughts on my question above? Is is possible with the installed version of QT to save the whole stream and I just don't know how to do this?

I totally agree with the site above, if what he says happens to be true. Honestly, I wouldn't put it past Apple to do something like that. They seriously need market share, and you don't get market share from debuting a machine slower than machines already out. Plus, I would say this is just an extension of the "MHz myth" because these numbers don't mean much to most people, but the quantization will lead some people to believe Macs are better. Intel did the same thing when comparing the P4 to AMD Athlons. Its a common practice.

That being said, I think the G5 is a step in the right direction for Apple to catch up and eventually surpass PC makers (the funny part is that they end up enlisting the aid of one of the first PC companies). I'm hoping they announce the 15" Powerbook soon so I can buy it.

My question is: why did so many people send that guy (who made the above website) hatemail? Seriously, don't they have something better to do than rant inarticulately about how the guy is wrong? If he is wrong, they aren't going to be changing his opinion ... and if he isn't wrong they just look more and more like the zealots he complains of. I would like to believe that Mac people don't follow the company blindly. I for one, am quite impressed with the G5 machines (internal engineering and exterior design).

macbidouille.com reports that some info from haxial.com are either false or not properly interpreted......is it a troll?????
macbidouille.com mentiones for example the haxial.com claims that "Apple/Veritest crippled floating-point on the Intel CPU's by not using SSE2.", well actually it is wrong ", indeed "(page 27, option march=pentium4 combined to mfpmath=sse)"
in addition macbidouille.com reports that hyperthreading was desble for one test because it was decreasing the perormance.....

They had an independant company do the benchmarking.

The spec scores are there to see.

Apple published it all. It's not like Apple did their own tests
and did not supply the data or methods. Of course they're
not going point out where the Pentiums and Xeons came close
to their numbers. And unlike a certain video pro site that said
"the G4 gets trounced again by the P4" and then not give up the
data or methods of their benchmarking.

I suspect the guy works for Intel... or even Dell.
His report shows up a day after the release...
seems like very quick work for one guy. Either
sloppy work or he had help.

He may not be 100% right, but at least he's trying. Don't accept everything at face value. If it checks out, great. If not, then at least you know.

Besides, he claims to use a Mac, but doesn't have allusions that it's the greatest thing since sliced Velveta.

A fact of life when it comes to these big announcements: Lots of newbies finding their way around. Have patience with them. Not everyone is familiar with how these boards work. (The trolls will get bored and be gone within a few days).

The most interesting part of his evolution is that of his facial hair. Just look for a history of photos of him. He's had it and not had it and had it and then changed the way he cut it. It all seems to stem around what's happening with the computer too. I think he wears the beard when he wants to look tough and intimidate the engineers.
