I ordered a Dual 2GHz as soon as I could get the online store to load. I have no rev A fears, almost all my gear is rev A. This will mean that my oldest G4 (450MHz... rev A) is going to one of my nephews, when Apple ships a dual 3GHz I might "retire" one of my older duals to another relative. My family loves it when I buy new gear!

I had a Dual 1.42 on order when they were announced but cancelled it the week before it shipped to save money for a G5. I then spent the money on holidays, fast women, and a 1.3Ghz processor for my G4-500 - so I'll make it to the Rev2 before I buy.
Can't wait though - Panther here I come!

Bought my Dual/GHz/DDR PowerMac in last August when they were announced. I'll get me one of these new fangled Gfiver thingies though but probably next summer or so.

I'm a student and just spent $1499 on an iBook a few months ago, so there's no way I can afford to buy a new system now. My iBook's fine for what I use it for anyway.

The new G5 Power Macs are great, but I no longer need a desktop computer. I need a laptop.
I NEED a 15" PB G5!!
I hope they come out soon.

Sure the only thing I would be buying in August would be Power Mac G5, 1.6 ghz. Guys can I put the regular DDR 333 mhz (RAM) in the powermac, your advice would be appreciated, as I dont want to buy RAM from Apple as it's too expensive. Thanks y'all.

I checked yes, that I will be placing an order. However it will probably be next summer. Unfortunately for Apple, this summer I am buying a house which has sapped the "OMG look at the new cool hardware that has to come home with me" budget. It is actually very hard for me not to buy one anyway. But then I remember the $20 thousand I just spent in options on my new house.
:)
Perhaps there should have been an option for "I am buying version 2.0" or "I am buying in 6/12/18" months.

hell yes!! i'm getting one... as soon as they come wrapped in 1" thin aluminium or titanium with a 15" screen.;)
i would pre-order a PowerMac, but i need the portability, so a PowerBook is the only option for me. so as soon as they come out i'll get one.
on a similar note, i was thinking about what the G5 will do for iMac sales, and any other Mac they put a G4 in. i was thinking that there's no way there'll be a decent market for the G4 now, but after looking at the poll relsults there's a fair number that are saying 'no' to a G5. i guess that there isn't that need for the G5 in a consumer Mac, so Apple might be thinking that the G4 and G5 will seperate the consumer and pro lines for quite some time yet.
it'll be interesting to see how all this unfolds.

If i had the money, I'd order a g4 immediately, which are reduced at our local store (1299 EURO)...
But my G3 is still fast enough for my DTP jobs and office applications (though I WANT something new :( ) and hey! My SE (featuring a 1GB HD - the 20Meg one headcrashed) and Performa 5200 are still running... ;)
Well, i'd like to buy one of the thingies, but i lack the money...

I'll be first in line for a $4000 17" G5 (and if I'm lucky, it'll even be CHEAPER!)

Nope...after experiencing the joys of a laptop I don't think I'll ever go back to a desktop machine again. I'm looking to buy a new portable in the next 18 months, that should be plenty of time for Apple to get the G5 in the PowerBooks.

While I chose "maybe", its really much stronger than that; I do need to buy something new before the end of this year for sure.
I would have liked to have seen Steve announce the new 15" Powerbook, because this would have made it harder for me to choose :D
But I probably won't order anything until mid-July or early August. I don't really feel like waiting for 6-8 weeks for a PC delivery, and with the extra delays that happened with the 17", waiting until there's real-world deliveries before placing my own order makes some sense.

I'll be getting one as soon as I collect a little more cash. Since they're not going to be shipping by August (and even then we might be lucky to see the dual 2 GHz by the end of August) I'll pick one up then.

I dont think ill be getting one, base price is way to high for what you get, time to look into giga designs 1.4 upgrade or mercury extreme. that should do me for a year or so, by then maybe they will have a single 2 gig for $1500.00 Nice pro machines but i agree with another post i saw earlier and that is apple has a lot of people really stuck between the imac and base powermac now. same old story, cant upgrade imac, cant afford powermac. Go out and buy a dell is what will happen to many folks.

The poll should've included the followinfg selections:
Waiting for the Rev B systems.
Will buy in 6 months to a year.
Waiting for a G5 Powerbook.
Next up for me is a G5 Powerbook sometime next spring. [They will be out by then, won't they?] A new desktop system has to wait for several months after that.

I have been waiting for these babies to materialise for about a year, but I'm still not really in the position for one. I just want a decent video editor. My little G3 iMac really struggles & I can't even think about running FCP.
So, to do list:
1. Get a full time job (preferably in education, so i can get discount :D ). Hope wife appreciates that I am now contributing equally to the household.
2. Beg said wife to let me get a loan so I can buy G5 "But, honey, it will be the solution to ALL of our problems!"
3. Er..
4. That's it.
5. Oh yeah - BUY A G5!!!!

I may buy one if one of the following happens:
1. My iMac dies and AppleCare can't fix it.
2. My real estate tax on my new home isn't rising as high as I fear
3. The credit companies clear my record of the time when I lost my wallet 2 years ago! Yes I can't seem to establish a credit
account anywhere even though I pay off my credit card bill all the time, and the reason why is the fraud alert I set for losing my wallet 2 years ago. The wallet was found two days later.
4. If I find a gf who is wealthier than I am!

Thats why they have a 1.25 GHz PowerMac G4 for sale for 1299. Yeah, it isn't much better than an iMac but there is an option for a dual upgrade which goes for 1599. They may not have many of the advanced options associated with the other machines, but they also allow dual booting.

I told my wife about this spiffy new thing from Apple, but She Who Keeps The Books said "I hope you're not asking if you can get one, because you know the answer..." :p If AAPL stock can pick up a few more points, I'll be in a better position to sell off most of what I hold (still at a loss, though) and put that money towards a G5. Of course, I'll also need to find a job to replace the current one that's going away in July... :(
My current desktop has really reached the end of the line as far as expandability - rev A beige g3/233 with a G4/400 ZIF upgrade, two new hard drives, new video, new internal cd drive (now a cd-rw)... I managed to cram OSX onto the box, but I still run in OS9 90% of the time because it's just faster - the OSX doesn't seem to want to do Quartz Extreme, so the interface is bloody slow, even with the OSX supported ATI Radeon card. Maybe it's the fact that it's a PCI card, or the fact that the system's running on a 66 Mhz bus... oooh, 800 Mhz on the new systems... I want :D

Need another choice, "Will be buying in a year, when Dual 3s are out"..
I bought a 17" Powerbook G4 w/ 22" Cinema Display and an 17" iMac G4 this year and well...as you can imagine, am in a bit of debt...
Maybe after the holidays this winter, I might be able to swing it by then...
Christopher
p.s. I'd like a dual 2.4 or the dual 3, with at least 4 gig of ram and two 250 gig hard drives.. I'd like a 23" display and will add my 22" to the new powemac for dual display...
If I hadn't bought the 17" iMac, I might have been ordering the low end G5...

I'll order one, but I'm going to wait for at least a few weeks after they're shipping, just to clear out weirdnesses in production that usually appear in the first few weeks of any new product. After that minimal waiting time, the Dual 2 will be on it's way. I'm really looking forward to the speed boost.
As for the G4's, I hadn't thought of this before, but now I'm leaning towards getting a dual 1.25 G4 for home to replace the Beige G3/300, and give that to my kids. The New/Old G4's have dropped tremendously in price to make room - happy times!
Now to convince the wife of the "need" for it...

Since they aren't shipping for a couple months anyway, I'm going to wait until early reports on issues come in, and until there's a bit of rumor word on how soon the move into the 2.5Ghz range will come--it'd be nice to save a few extra bucks or get an even faster box if I can.
I've gotta admit, though, I'm seriously tempted to go into massive debt just so I can point to my maxed-out Mac and say to a PC user: "My computer is better than any PC, in every way, shape, and form. Hah!" for the couple of months until something better comes along.
Here's a related story about something amazing I witnessed a few minutes ago. A Wintel techie-type I know in passing happened to walk by my desk. Although he seemed to be under the somewhat unsubstantiated and unlikely impression that Apple would be going to Intel within a year, he said (highly paraphrased):
"Yeah, I probably will get a G5 when they come out. They've got all the best stuff, 64-bit, and they're faster than any PC. Seems like a good time to make the switch."
Heartening. This could be big!

My own system is going to be turning 3 pretty soon, and I'd love to upgrade. Especially with the advancements in the G5, I just can't afford to get a second generation computer now. It would just be too disheartening. It would be nice to have the latest and greatest for a change. :)
If my job issues (that being lack of one) change soon, then getting one of those new sweet machines might very well be plausible. :) I'd like to wait until the next generation, but I need a new machine pretty soon.
Getting a 1.6 GHz might seem a little more plausible, but I don't want to have to get a new machine within 2 or 3 years. Somehow, the software companies manage to make the fastest and greatest pretty slow and feeble.

Who knows - the August heat might get to my brain and I'll charge a G5 before I realize what I've done. Who needs to pay rent anyway - the G5's cardboard box will keep me cozy down by the dumpster at Dairy Queen.

I would say one of these they are the best for the money that I know about and pass with flying colors the real world tests not based on the specifications. Monitor manufacturors often over rate their specs so like I said pay attention to reviews and tests.
Formac (http://www.formac.com/p_bin/?cid=solutions_displays_gallery1740_01)
Sony (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=g_hlJK7ojVtlH5ARhDdvL-Hn1_4LtR1yGJw=?CatalogCategoryID=JNkKC0%2eN4ZMAAAD1QDErwfjV&ProductID=0fkKC0%2eNaqAAAAD1Fegrwfja&Dept=cpu)
Sharp (http://www.sharpsystems.com/tmplproduct_T17D3.asp)
Now you may be thinking to yourself, "Sharp?". Yup, that's what I said. In a recent MacAddict 17" LCD shootout the Sharp, I linked to, won hands down against Apple, Cornea, Formac, LaCie, NEC, Princeton, Samsung, Sony, and Viewsonic. It's not the most beautieous of the group but it is not only the best performer but is also the cheapest.
Just a final note check www.pricegrabber.com before buying any of these to find the best price chose a retailer with a good reputation of course because with LCDs you may have to return them because of bad pixels and what not. Secondly, here's my personal oppinion. LCDs are great for desk space, energy savings, and for static images. That said I think CRTs are better for price per pixel. With a 17" CRT you get a maximum image of 1280x1024 all for $500. Where as you can get a very very nice 19 or 20" CRT for $500 that will give you very legible text at up to 1920x1600 or even larger. That's a lot more screen area for the same dollar. Also CRTs are typically better for moving images and are a lot less prone to streaking because the pixel change rate is so much higher.
Now that my personal oppinions are out of the way I hope what I have given you helps.

I don't really want a PM G5, I want a new PB and I want it to be a G5.
Also if you do buy one of the new PMs, get them from non-Apple owned stores since Apple charges too much for the RAM and HD upgrades. Or you could just get the minimum amount of RAM with a Mac and get extra RAM from crucial or something.

I'm a switcher, out with XP in with OS X....
Well I was going in with the intention of buying a 1.8GHz G5, 17" LCD, and 10GB iPod. Talked over the specs with the wife, and ended up with a Dual 2GHz, 20" LCD, and 15GB iPod. WooHoo! (what a wife) It was hard to pass up, I bought it through the ADC Student purchase program so I saved almost a thousand dollars. (and I only get this deal once) This will be a big jump from my little AMD that sounds like a jet engine.
Now, the waiting game when will it arrive, which isn't too bad since I have been debating on a mac for a year now. I'm assuming they are going to include Panther, that would be kinda lame if not. But I'll worry about that later, worst case I'll get it through the educational discount. Spending most of my adult life in college has it's benefits. <grin>

Hmmmm...... I would doubt apple having compatibility issues with major LCD maksrs like NEC. I hope they don't have compatibility issues with a PC manufacturer's monitor (a Gateway) ;):p.

This happened over 5 years years ago. It was with a Mac LC III and a NEC 14" RGB Monitor. The adapter provided was very flimsy. What got to be very frustrating was that the Mac would bootup, but not the monitor! :(
It sounds you are going to have a trully awesome G5, scem0! ;)
