View Full Version : Question about G4 RAM
Jun 24, 2003, 09:11 AM
Alright, I'm buying the 1.25 G4, and I want to buy some RAM from a source cheaper than Apple. I found the correct page at dealram:
However, everything listed there is either generic, or else it falls under the category of "not meant for your system, but is the same type of ram."
Can somebody please explain this to me, and give me advice? I don't want to buy something unreliable, although I want a good deal.

I was wondering why you're going for the 1.25? I might go that route also and was looking at a deal at macmall...

I'm going 1.25 because I want the upradeability of a tower, but I don't need the speed of the G5. I'll probably get a G5 in three years or so, and this machine will be great for me until then I think.

I totally am in the same boat! By the way, the specs I stated from macmall are incorrect. When I actually added the item to my shopping cart, all of the specs changed! Too good to be true!

So is it safe to buy the generic ram? There are some good prices like $60-$80 for 512 MB, but I don't want to risk anything.

I've heard there are some quirks with PowerMac memory, never hit any, and most generic stuff will work fine (maybe not at the rated level however) - if you have any doubts however...
I recommend these guys: http://store.yahoo.com/memx/powermacg4.html
Their stuff works, they are friendly, and WAY cheaper than Apple (usually for the EXACT same memory that Apple sells).
