So far I have found that the PC iPod will work with both my PC and my mac, which if true, is nice. However, thats not really my concern.

My questions for those who have PC iPods.

(1) Does the iPod just mount as another drive in windows expoder? (i.e mount as say an F: drive) If so, can i just drag files onto it to copy them over?

(2) Can I put files and music on the iPod at the same time?

(3) Whats the compatibility with win2000? Driverless? or do I need to install software?

You see. I am a consultant and it would be great if I could keep a couple hundred MB of files I use at all my clients AND also have a music player so I don't pollute the clients workstations.

Do any of you PC iPod users do this? Can it be done?

Can this puppy be a portable drive and music library at the same time?

Your response is greatly appreciated.

Jeremy

I have a 10 GB PC iPod, 2nd rev. While you will need to install software to access the "music" portion of the iPod on any PC, you do not need to install drivers for Win2K, WinXP, and possibly Win ME to access the HDD features. It should mount and show as an IEEE 1394 drive that you can drag and drop files on w/out problems. As far as doing both at the same time, I have not had any problems writing files to it as "music" and the storage at the same time.

Straphound, thanks for your help.

One more question.

Is USB 2.0 backward compatible? Can I use the iPod on a USB 1.x computer?

I believe you can. It should be backwards compatible just not very fast!
