HDTV Help

I am absolutely sick of my 9-year old Sony Trinitron and am purchasing an LCD HDTV in the very near future. I'm going for a 32-inch model and I have narrowed my choice down to three final candidates.

I would be using this with my cable provider's HD service as well as my XBox 360. Does anyone have any insight on which television I should buy?

I'd go for the 1080p Sharp Aquos...1080p is nice, and since you've got an Xbox 360 you can use it.


Does you XBox 360 have HDMI? If so, are there any other HDMI items in you home entertainment set up? The Sharp, and the cheaper Samsung only have 2 HDMI port, while the more $ Samsung has 3. Something to think about

Thanks zap, when I look over the pictures again the V-shaped bottom of the more expensive Samsung does look nicer than the rectangular set of speakers on the bottom of the cheaper one.

I've never seen 720p before but I've seen 1080p at a friends house using my 360 and it was spectacular. It seems like 70 more dollars for 1080p native is a pretty good deal.

My 360 doesn't have HDMI, only the new 360 Elite has that. I do, however, have HD Component for my 360. The number of HDMI ports isn't really that big of a deal as the only electronic that I could see using that port might be an :apple:tv sometime in the future.

...Go with the Aquos. This is Sharp's top-of-the-line 32" HDTV. I have never seen this specific model, but its larger Aquos LCxxD62U siblings are the best-looking TV sets I have ever seen. Currently, HDTVs from Sharp, Samsung, and Sanyo. I like them all. But, this fall I will replace my old Sharp with another Sharp, the Aquos LC37D62U.

As for ports, you can never have enough of them. Obviously having three HDMI ports is better than having two HDMI ports. However, component video, TOSLINK (optical fiber) audio, DVI, and what-not are all possibilities. Most sources such as cable boxes, DVD players, etc. have multiple output ports. So long as you have enough HD ports on the TV to handle your HD sources, you will be fine.
