When speaking about hardware (computers, monitors, cameras, etc.) what does refurbished mean? And how does their working and pysichal condition compare to brand new products?

Factory refurbished means that Apple has taken the product and looked it over and made sure that it is ok. Apple's refurbished products all come with a 1 year warranty (I believe)

Obviously, buying refurbished isn't as good as buying new but it is better than buying from ebay or another seller. Most people are happy buying refurbed products but there are exceptions. There might be some scratches or physical imperfections but nothing major. Working condition once again compares favorably with new models. If you do buy refurbed, make sure that it comes from an Apple authorized reseller and understand the conditions it is sold under.

Here (http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/wty-post1997.html) is a link to Apple's Warranty page. The same warranty applies to new and Apple refurbished products.

In the end it is more of a gamble to buy refurbed than new, but the savings can be worth it.
