Ok, so a friend of mine used a mini disk recorder to record a few clips that need to be edited. He converted the files to a normal sized dvd and they come up in a "Sony Mobile" dvd menu. They are encoded as a Video_TS folder and I can't get them to open in iMovie. I tried using ffmpegx, but it says due to copyright laws Video_TS can't be converted.
Please help asap!!!
thanks =]

Normally, with miniDV (different format than you have) you would capture the footage from the tape into iMovie. but in your case, you have a dvd with footage on it, youre going to need to convert the dvd to a format that you can use in iMovie such as .mov. since youre having copyright problems wit ffmpegx, i would suggest downloading handbrake, its free by the way. handbrake will allow you to rip the footage off of your dvd.

Actually, Handbrake is not the application for this task.
You'll want something like DVDxDV or Cinematize to convert the MPEG-2 footage to DV. There are other applications that do this as well, but I haven't been keeping up to date with it.
You might also try looking at VisualHub or CaptDVD.
Good Luck
