Hey guys,

I'm new to the whole video editing thing. I have a friend who needs to convert a DVD to AVI or something compatible to be edited in FCP. What is the best way to accomplish this? She's at the tail end of a doc she and her husband have been making for years.

Thanks in advance.

VisualHub (http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/) works nicely. It'll convert the DVD to DV which should maintain quality for them to work with in FC.

Ah- so I should convert it to a DV file then? Anything else I should know?

convert to a Quicktime Movie using the DV-NTSC codec

mpegStreamclip is another good option
