Will Panther Support OS9?

At this point, not supporting Classic would be suicide....it took quite a while before people totally stopped using their 68k applications after the move to PPC. Its similar to the move from OS 9 to X and many people have not yet even switched to OS X. I think Classic will be supported for quite some time.

In Panther there is a Menu Extra devoted to Classic, so it definitely still exists in Panther. :)

I seem to remember seeing in a few places Apple's own figures that of the 20 million people using Macs, only 5 million are on OS X. Not supporting OS 9 would piss a lot of people off. For me it would be OK because I never use 9 anymore, but for the people who aren't ready, forced upgrades are pretty crappy.

I know people who are still using OS 8. So an upgrade to Panther would definitely be a shock to the system.

Yeah, but out of the 15 million Mac users that are still using OS 9 (or earlier), how many have machines that can run OS X. I suspect that many of that 15 million have machines that can't run OS X.

They probably got these statistics from how many sales they have. But many people get their software illegally from freeware like Limewire. So probably more people do use it then they think.

If you're a student (even a high school student), you can qualify for reduced prices for Apple software. Most things are about 50% off of the regular price. So when Panther is available, you'll be able to get it for around $70 instead of $130.

EDIT - Nevermind. Apple's education store limits purchases to employees of k-12 schools. You need to be in college to qualify for student discount.

Well, i think that apple should be more kid oriented, because that is where microshi- er, soft has them. I was raised on macs, so i got to see how cool they are first-hand. But if my dad didn't know about computers, i would look at commercials and see that windows have kids having fun (even if that sounds corny, it does work when ur really young). So, in conclusion. If you look at everything i wrote so far, it is obvious that Panther Will Support OS9 i thank you for your time.
