I am doing some event videography, including weddings, and need to get an on-camera light for my Sony FX1. I would love to stay under $125. I have been surfing the B&H site and I would love some recommendations. Thanks for your help!

I've been looking at obie lights for a while as well. Unfortunately I don't have much in the way of recommendations yet.

In that price range I guess you're probably looking at a Bescor or Smith Victor. Don't forget you'll need a battery or two as well (unless you have spare camera batteries and appropriate adapter).

I think the industry standard is the Frezzi. It's good because you can get a small softbox for it, and it's dimmable....

I'd stay away from the Cool-Lux Mini-Cool though, it doesn't look like they've changed that design since the mid-'80s. It's kind of long, too (5").

I'm curious about the LED lights, I'd think they would really save on battery, but I don't know how their throw is. I've read the LitePanels are nice and soft, but don't have enough throw for some people. Of course, they are expensive. I've looked at the VariZoom LED, but I'm not sure...

Of course, if $$ were no object:

Anyway, good luck!

Thanks for your tips and links. I would love to get one that isn't bulky, and also doesn't need the battery belt.

My budget limits me a little, but this was a great start.
