My iMac G5 crashed today and would not restart. I tried a safe restart and this would not work. It wouldn't seem to restart from the install disk either. I did manage to run hardware check from the disc though and got the error:

4mem/1/40000000: 01BD229C

Tha last letters/numbers changed when I repeated the test.

Any ideas on what's wron would be greatly appreciated

Looks like a failed Apple Hardware test for your RAM modules (I believe in slot 1). While I would suggest taking out each module you have installed it could also be a mother board problem with the RAM controller and you would have to take it in.
