I traded my MacBook Pro away for a G5. The G5 worked just fine. I tried adding some parts to it and now it does not boot up anymore. I took it to the Apple Store and they are now running diagnostic testing on it to see what happened (either the logic board is dead or the processor is dead or both are dead which would be worst case scenario). We are starting to think the electro-static build up may have fried the computer.

Now I have basically screwed myself over. The repairs for the G5 are upwards of 500 dollars depending on what they find.

So, for now I am going to start shopping for a replacement Mac. I'm looking for a decent PowerMac that has some upgrades in it, and hopefully a display included. As for the PowerBook, I'm looking for a 15 incher.

I will probably part out the G5 and it's display when I get it back from Apple.

This is a rough time for me since I've never had an Apple break on me and I'm trying to make the smartest quickest decision possible so I can get back to editing.

Actually, a bit of advice.

Buy a Mac Mini DC1.66 out of the refurb store (may need to wait 3-4 days, but it will show up).

$519 if I remember right, and you can always sell when you feel it has been outgrown.

Since you are frustrated (I know I would be), do buy something with Applecare on it.. another strikeout will hurt.

Yeah I would hate to have to go through the same thing again.

I might just consider buying a refurbished model and picking up applecare. This has been a bad experience.

I'll think about it.

I don't have much money now that the G5 has died.

I'll sort through all the offers and try to figure out how much money I have to spend.

Does anybody have a maxed out/loaded PowerMac that they are selling? I'm talking about G4's, not G5s, cant afford one.

Also if you are going to offer me a tower, I need a display with it.

Someone is selling a G4 Powermac (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/57909216/m/130008115831) over on Arstechnica for $400 + shipping. It's a lower end model (dual 450Mhz, 2GBs of RAM, 120GB HD), but it's cheap at least. Eventually you could upgrade its processor through Sonnet to give it better performance (actually, depending on how much your G5 sells for, you might be able to go this route from the get).

Anyways, just thought I'd give you the heads up about it.. another option, anyways.

EDIT: A better buy would be a low end G5, though.. The 1.6 G5's are about $700 on eBay (http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=pf&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&from=R10&_trksid=m37&satitle=g5+1.6&sacat=25440%26catref%3DC6%26curcat%3Dtrue&a26092=42209&a26443=42212&a26444=26580&a25710=-24&a12=-24&a10244=-24&alist=a26092%2Ca26443%2Ca26444%2Ca25710%2Ca12%2Ca10244&pfmode=1&reqtype=1&gcs=1506&pfid=1812&pf_query=g5+1.6&pf=Show+Items&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=29631&fis=2&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D2). Depending on how much you get from your broken one, you might be able to jump to one of these for free.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see how much this G5 sells for.

the only reason why im dropping the price is because the case is alittle scratched. So im not going to make someone pay a lot for it.

I also have a 1.6 Single G5 with one gig of ram, with an 80 gig harddrive for around 500-550 also.
