Mount ISO as a CD in a drive.

I understand macs can mount .iso with a simple double click, but I want my macbook to treat an iso file as if it were a CD in the cd drive. This is easily done on a C with PowerISO or Alcohol120% I should be able to do it on a mac too, shouldn't I? But I can't seem to figure out how to.
When I double click the iso to just mount it, it mounts fine, i can access files and everything, but if I run a program that reads of the CD i of course get the "Please insert CD". Now, I have the CD right here, that's no big problem, but the using drive kills the battery life like nothing else.
Any suggestions? Am I fundamentally missing something?

The only program that i know is capable of this is Roxio's Toast. I have searched low and high to find a free or cheeper alternative, and have found none.

just curious as to what it is your trying to do? what proframs actual require cd's these days?

right, it is most definately maybe possible, you will need a big enough flash drive or external hard drive tho...:rolleyes:

open disk util, go to the restore tab, drag your iso to the top box and your flash drive to the bottom box and hit restore, mac os x should then see your flash drive as a disk :D

atleast i think this works? this is how i installed leopard, instead of burning a DL DVD

when your done you will be able to format your flash drive back to normal (so youll loose data stored on it so back up!)

Yeah I've heard of Toast, was planning on getting it. I'll pick up a copy tomorrow. In the mean time how will I go about doing it once I get Toast? And is anyone sure this should work?

This would be really helpful if some one was trying to install Windows for example and all they had was the .ISO; that is what I am trying to do with Windows 7 anyway.

If you don't want to type in the path to your iso you can drag it into Terminal after you type hdiutil mount

I created an .ISO file via Windows XP and I'm trying to mount that image on my Mac (MacBook Pro, 2008). I get a warning: "This disk image you are opening may be damaged and could damage your system." I did nothing.

Any advise? I have not seen such a warning before (but then I'm a new Mac user).

Im also trying to figure this one out? Im in desperate (sadly) need of windows now that some of my study programs are only compatible with it... I have a 2011 Mini and therefor no CD drive and I'm trying to install windows with VMWare
Any help? :)
