Ebay! (Pismo G3/400). I only bid on machines from local sellers, and only if I can pick it up in person. That's really the only way I feel comfortable buying a computer via auction.

I bought my iMac DV SE from outpost.com. Amazingly, it arrived in less than 24 hours, all the way from the other side of the country, and all tax and shipping free! :D

I do plan on ordering a G5 from the apple online store however, because I like being able to custom build my computer (don't like that nVidia FX 5200!).

ebay as well:

a sweet G4500 server, 2 years ago. (bought from a repo guy if you can believe that.)

then a brand new G4 Powerbook 15, 6 months ago.

If I lived in the US, I probably would've bought from apple.com. Since I don't, and since Macs are so expensive here, I hunted around until I found a US reseller that ships internationally, and ordered through them.

CompUSA. Not my favorite store, but the only one around here where I can buy Macs. I had ordered my iMac from macmall.com, but due to a problem with my debit card they didn't ship it and didn't tell me until a week later. I had moved recently and hadn't updated my address with my bank. I understand that they didn't ship for my own protection (someone else could have been using my card), but I wish they would have let me know sooner. I would've gotten the computer cheaper, without sales tax or shipping charges, and gotten a free memory upgrade and printer. But after a week, I was anxious to have it and didn't want to wait for a whole new order to be processed after I updated my bank.

my latest Mac, a TiBook 667 (Rev. C) which i have now sold... anyway, i got that from a local non-Apple reseller. Infinite Systems in Brisbane. the service there was good, and i'll get my new 15" PB there, but it would be even better if Apple had their own stores here.

Who was the reseller? Do they uphold the warranty?

My first mac (a Centris 650) was bought from a local computer company that supplied the computers for the Fortune 500 company I used to work for.

My second mac (an iMac revA) & third (an iBook SE) was preordered through MacMall.

My forth mac (a G5 in Dec/Jan) will probably come from the Apple Store in Atlanta.

We got ours (see sig) (iMac DV SE the original) from Sears way back in November of 99, they had their 10% off sale going so we saved $150, and it was a Christmas present, so it sat there for a month! replacing the old PowerPC 6320CD 120mHz 603e chip heh

I think when I'm ready for a new computer, maybe a 2nd revision G5? I'll get it from the computer store at harvard, the prices are insanely good, for example they were offering a dual 1.42 with 17" and applecare for $2649!!! all brand new not refurb, pretty cool

the new prices aren't out yet..

General Cybernetics - Back2themacs old company - sort of disappointed he's not there anymore but I'll probably get my G5 from them again anyway - great prices.....

I had been waiting to buy from SmallDog for years, and finally saved enough money last year to buy a refurbished iMac from them. I plan on buying from them again.

u of m property req...

they sell off all of their old stuff (junk). things like furniture, computers, well, really - just about everything. lab supplies, etc. and since u of m is a primarily mac school, you can find old macs there. i went there on day and they had a palette (seriously) of at least 40 beige g3's. since i had no machine (this was only 7 or 8 months ago), this was a great find, especially since at home we'd been using an lc 575... :o)

so i got the beige. 266 g3, factory zip, 4 gig internal, 64 megs of ram. proc and zip have stayed, hd was the first to be swapped out, and i've thrown in a fair amount of ram. 150 bucks. and then the 17 inch studio display (from the same era) for 50 bucks.

a good day for me - stepping into os 9 (from 7.5) and a g3 (from an 040) all in one day!

apple.com...i didn't want to wait for retialers to get them in stock. It was weird because i went compusa later that week and after the 700/800 nov 6 line was released they still hadthe 600/700 line on at the old prices I found it odd but since i got mine a little later

Costco in Tacoma, WA. They were moving to a new building and I got an iMac DV 400 G3 for $600, no box, in October 2000. What a deal! Never had a problem with it. I had it on my sailboat for about a year, hauled it out to Vermont for a few months and then back to CA. Man, deals like that don't come around often enough.

She'll be accompanied by a G5 later this fall, from the Apple Store of course, with the 20% ADC discount, of course!

is that Scotsys on Gt. Western Rd? I have bought a few things from there in the past. If so, are you still doing educational discounts for us poor students?

John Lewis are hard to beat in terms of their warranty - any dead pixels on an LCD (whether cinema display, iMac or laptop) and they'll change the product for you. Not as cheap as online retailers though.

Is the policy at the local Apple store stiil the same? That if you purchase a Mac locally you can't have it customized. Meaning that you purchase as is from the box?

Terra Soft sells Macs with Linux preinstalled, and due to the uniqueness of that, they're allowed to sell internationally. I didn't care for Linux so as soon as I got it I just formatted the HD and installed the Mac OS :) (it comes with all the Mac OS CDs as well as the Linux ones).

As for the warranty, I got an iBook, which has an international warranty. If you got a desktop, you'd need to get AppleCare from a reseller in your country. However I'd recommend checking with Apple to make sure that these terms still apply in your country.

Outpost is great! They always ship your stuff the same day (assuming it's in stock) if you place your order by 12am EST. Low shipping prices, great customer service...I've ordered three Macs from them and I've always been pleased.

Fry's, the actual store, is even better. :)

Best prices out there. They even had free USB hubs a while back. They came out to exactly $5.00 and there was a $5.00 mail in rebate. Didn't get one though :(.

I have had a bad history with saying I would send in a mail in rebate and never doing so...... ;)

got mine at my local Philly-area MicroCenter. Pretty good store with a lot of stuff. I love my 867 TiBook, tho I wish I'd know the 12 and 17"ers were on their way (got mine exactly 2 weeks before the keynote!)

Oh well, I still love it!! Now, if I could only justify getting a PowerMac G5... mwuhahaha
