I keep getting stripes on my printouts of my Canon Pixma MP500. I've cleaned and deep-cleaned the printer heads, but the problem keeps returning. Is this a sign that things are going south? Or is there hope that the problem will eventually go away? Any other ideas on how to fix the problem?

I am having the same problem with the same printer. It also double feeds pages sometimes.

You probably need a new printhead.

This happened to me with my Canon i850 not long ago. I ordered a new PIXMA ip4300 from Amazon for about $85...not much more than a set of ink cartridges. Great printer!
