View Full Version : my macpro gets stuck on restart

I've been avoiding trying to fix this problem, but now it's actually getting really annoying. Anytime I go to restart my machine, it gets stuck in some sort of endless cycle of clicking drives.. I have to do a hard power off and turn it back on to escape it. Has this been a common problem or something someone else has run across?

I've attached a sound file of what's happening.

Sounds like the DVD. Have you got a disk in it?

If so, hold down the left mouse key while you restart to open it and remove.

Hi thanks for the advice, I did have a cd in there when I recorded the sound, but it does the same thing when there's no disk too :( It's been this way since I bought the machine. It does sound like something to do with the dvd-drive though I think you're right.

Could be a defective drive. Have you tried starting up in safe mode? Hold down the Shift key until log in, then restart again. It will run the file system check and takes a while.

Any brand of RAM will have about a 1% failure rate out of the box. So if you put in lets say 4 modules, you have a 1 in 25 chance of problems.... therefore a single incident of failure is not indicative of a brand that must be avoided.

If there is a trend, or a succession of bad modules, or if the seller is not responsive in replacing the modules, then that would be worth taking note of.
