View Full Version : $40 to spend. What would you buy?

NickD

Though my parents have already given me some of my birthday presents, they are going to spend an extra $40 (not just give me cash), and I'm trying to decide what I could ask for, and what better place to get ideas than the good old WWW.

What would you get if you had $40?

What would I do if I had 40USD....god I don't have any idea, I can only dream of such a time ;)

I'd save it...for 40USD, your not getting much. Maybe a video game...but not even a Wii/xbox 360/PS3 game...PSP or DS maybe.

I could really go for a nice new set of prismacolor markers :)For $40? Wouldn't that only get you 15 or so markers? :p

If I had spare $40 to drop, I think I'd get me some Mario Badescu (http://mariobadescu.com/) products or go to Sephora (http://www.sephora.com/). :D Guessing the OP might not be so interested in those, though.

Hmm. I might get my nails done, actually. :o

A Logitech VX Revolution (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104016) if you don't have a nice mouse. After the mail in rebate it's $40, which is a fantastic price. I have one and I highly recommend it.

Things i would put $40 towards
-360/wii games
-Powermac G4
-some gadget i never needed, but suddenly find really cool

As I've gotten older I've come to realize what a waste of money clothes are. When I started making a bit more money I spent money on some nice clothes and my mom just messes them up each time she does the wash, they come out really dry or with bleach spots, or fall apart in some way or another. So I don't buy new clothes now, the ones that have made it through the wash this long are sturdy enough to keep me going for a while.

What are the things I splurge on? (And that's what you're really asking about, a splurge idea, because most people wouldn't spend $40 for the hell of it, but you have to, which is interesting).

With $40 I HAD to spend, I would rent some movies I had wanted to see, buy a good face moisturizer with sunblock, buy some Simply Saline nasal spray (which is surprisingly expensive about $7), and some candy and popcorn to enjoy the movies with, oh and a magazine, I hardly ever get magazines, but they are fun, like Esquire and GQ both have interesting article sometimes, plus free cologne samples, and you can cut out the pictures of the hot men and keep them for a collection if you have one.

EDIT: If there's money left over get sunglasses. I'm always losing mine, and need them this time of the year. Good to have lots of them around.

-A Grado Black cartridge for my turntable
-TCC TC-750 Phono Preamp
-AMP6 DIY kit from 41hz.com
-$40 worth of vinyl from flea markets, ebay and such

(I just started to build my first decent vinyl setup a couple of days ago around a Technics SL-Q2 turntable)

Save it for when you need/want something!

You'll learn later that having money and having nothing to spend it on is very rare and quite a good thing.

How about you do your own washing so that your clothes are actually washed in the way they are meant to be. Crazy suggestion I know...

Just under $2 a litre (more accurately $1.80). So roughly $7 - $7.50 per US gallon. Assuming the exchange rate is still near $2 to £1.

Two six-packs of Sam Adams cream stout, (or the beer of your choice) some really good cold cuts, (Bologna, genoa Salami, Turkey) and some chips.

Rent a good "guy's movie" and invite two buddies over.

For $40 I would go out to Abercrombie and get a shirt. Make it $50 and you can get 2 t-shirts or 1 polo. A lot of stuff is on sale right now, some of it isn't that great though.

American Eagle has plaid shorts on sale.

A case for your ipod or ipod accessories.
Tickets to a concert for you and a friend.
Save the $40 and when you have more $$ put it towards that
or give it to a charity.

If you bring 30 extra cents, you could get 31 bottles of Vitamin Water. :)

i vote for that... i'm a addicted to that stuff :D :D

Well, if it was my own 40 bucks, I wouldn't spend it. But in your case, I would probably get:

A nice cd I've been wanting - 10$
A Marvel Legends action figure -7$
Airsoft handgun repeater - 20$
And a new 24 oz Monster Assault energy drink - 3$

Hi Five for Hi-Fi!

If not investing in good audio equipment like headphones or various hi-fidelity sources, I would go for a good stack of CDs from the used bin at a local CD shop. I wish I had a turntable I could buy cartridges for..... in a couple years...
