Apple-style countdown timers

I was curious if anyone knew how Apple did their countdown timers (for iTunes song countdown, MacWorld, etc.). They look like they are quicktime based, but maybe they are just some fancy graphical javascript counters?

What you could do is download the dashcode beta and have a look at the code they use for the countdown widgets.

Probably not the same though.
