Just got a refurb macbook to go along with my 2 foot iMac. I have been transffering files back and forth via bluetooth. Now that I need to move larger files over it is slow as all hell, any sugestions, IN DETAIL, as to the fastest way to transfer files between the two.

Ethernet cable :)
How old is your iMac, because WiFi file sharing is much better than bluetooth...
System preferences -> Sharing -> Tick 'Personal file sharing', on your iMac
Then click 'Network' in your Macbook's finder...

Via Wireless Airport
Ethernet.
FW.
pick your choice. personally i use file sharing and airport to transfer stuff. moves reasonably fast. i would imagine BT to be rather slow.

From the looks of it, pretty new
my 2 foot iMac.
Anyway, how about an external harddrive or flash drive if they are pretty big and can't be bothered with the wireless assuming you have the equipment.

To make it clear, I've tried plugin' in a firewire and ethernet and nothing. I'm fairly new to Mac, but I thought the connections worked the same. What am I missing here?

unless you have a gigabit network, firewire is by far the fastest option, but its kind of complicated to set up

Precisely what I was gonna suggest. I got a laptop on ebay (Toshiba Tecra 9100 - DO NOT BUY IT NEW OR OTHERWISE) and had to transfer pictures, movies, music, you name it so I have a little experience with this kind of thing so if you need any more help, feel free to PM me.
Oh, and I like that 2 foot mac thing :P
