View Full Version : No Sound in iTunes Converted Apple TV Files - Help?

So, Apple added a 'Convert to Apple TV' function to iTunes in 7.2. Now, if you select a video file and click 'convert to Apple TV' from Advanced in the menu bar, it will create an Apple TV-friendly file.

Unfortunately, videos taken on my digital camera play fine in iTunes as .MPGs - but when i go to convert it to Apple TV through iTunes, it loses all audio.

Any idea what's wrong?

don't bother trying to fix it.......just open the selected file with quick time and choose export to apple tv from file menu! It converts any video to m4v specially for apple tv......

Hmmm... this doesn't work either. Does this have something to do with the camera and the import settings or something? The movies are taken on a Sony Cybershot.

Why don't you just leave it as a .mp4? That is an ATV friendly format. All my movies are .mp4s.

If I misunderstood and it's not already an .mp4, try this to convert it.

I suspect the problem is that the file is in MPEG-2 format, not MPEG4 before he converts. There's lots of discussion on the dropped audio when using quicktime to convert from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4. I don't have the details but Google should give you an answer relatively quick.

The reason that your videos lose the audio track when converting is because the files are "muxed" MPEG-1 files. There's a round-about way to solving this using MoreMissingTools, iTunes, and Quicktime Pro. However, I think that some applications will automate the demuxing. Look at VisualHub and Cinematize.

I haven't done it in a while, the 320x240 15fps video clips lost their novelty. If you search for demux and ftaok, you might find one of my older posts.
