I am not planning on camping out, but then I don't plan on getting one right away, I want one without the phone part.

Um, no. I'll buy one, but I'd never camp out for one. For that matter, I doubt I'd camp out for any sort of consumer product.
EDIT: If that choice makes me have to wait for a day, a week, or longer then so be it, but I won't stand in a hording mass. As though it were my privilege to give them my money for their product (and not vice versa).

Rogers is bringing them to Canada, so I do have the option of getting one. That said, for how much I use a mobile, the price is awfully steep. I'll probably wait for my Razr v3i to die, then I'll look at them a little closer.

I live in Canada, so nope!
Even if I lived in the US I think I would hold off and at least wait for the next revision. Let all those early adopters iron out the kinks for me. ;)

My phone is fine and I need it to be 3G before I even think about it. As cool as the iPhone is, 90% of the time its going to be in my pocket acting as a ... phone.

I'm gonna be in NYC on the release day so I will try to get down the the 5th avenue store just to see one in person. I don't plan on getting one until service is available here in Alaska.

Live in Hong Kong, so can't. However I'm with a few people here in agreeing that I wouldn't camp in front of a shop for nearly anything... if I wanted it that bad, I'd get someone to camp there for me, and then I'd arrive and switch places with them at the last minute :p

I also want one without the phone part.
iPod (Movies, Music, Photos) + Internet Communicator (Adress Book, Email, Safari) will be enough.

I will seeing just how many people are already at the AT&T store when I come home on Thursday. If there's already a few, I'll be picking up some Baja Fresh and camping out for the night.

thats cool while you guys wait for revision 1 or 2 or 15.
while your doing that I'm going to be surfing the internet on my iphone, uploading my songs and ical into it so I know when I have exams papers due appoitments on the go, along with all my email, music and videos which I can plug into my car jack and listen/watch.
or when they open it up and slingbox comes out with software to send stuff from my slingbox to my iphone so I can watch TV from anywhere (no more missing raider games for me)
if I'm lost (like I usually am because I travel) I can boot up google maps and find out where I am and find a resturant if I'm hungry
oh and maybe I'll make a call or two... :D
so have fun with your "razr" or whatever you have, I'll take one or two bugs to have the coolest device on the planet.

I won't camp out to get an iPhone, but I may get an iPhone to camp out.
Never had a cell phone yet, but iPhone looks like it has the usability I've been waiting for (once it has 16 GB storage).

Nope.
I want to wait to see how the final version looks, how well it works, and how it would make my mobile life better before I decide to shell out for it.

I think it would be unnecessary to "camp out" for one if you want it.
will it likely be popular: yes but I don't think we will see wii type shortages.
I have to say I'm with the camp that will wait for rev. b / ver. 2
let the bugs get worked out, and hope for some added features.
Specifically storage space, and 3rd party app support.
although I even if Apple doesn't open up for 3rd party apps we might see web pages popup that are specific for Safari in the iPhone (web based apps)
If I'm going to spend that kinda cash on a phone I want it to be able to combine/replace my Phone+iPod+PDA. On 4 or 8 GB I can't get enough of my iTunes music & shows for when I travel.
really I want an SD card slot or something similar.

I plan to go camping, but not on a busy street. The countryside has far more attraction, I think...
I'd like to borrow an iPhone to play with for 10 minutes or so until I got bored, then go back to making calls on my freebie and watching movies/surfing the net/sending emails in the comfprt of my own home. And as for getting lost and using the phone to help find your way: how have you ever managed to survive this far?
Sorry, but I just can't get excited over this even enough to buy one, let alone camp outside a store for one.

Waiting for Version 2? That's sensible.
But don't you "deserve" an iPhone now?... for being a "Mac" person... for putting up with years of "windows mobile" all around you... hearing "look what I can do, it's just like windows!" ?
C'mon....finally ... real internet... real email... real pictures... a real phone that even Grandma can probably understand (you mean "push the phone symbol, then push your name to call you?"...."yes, Grandma!")
I do though agree on the storage size... a little too small perhaps... specially for a "big" music and/or movie fan.
But it's gonna rock, and you know it... and you know you want one!
I've never regretted buying the original iPod (seriously!). Still works!...and it too still rocks!

Really depends on what I have to buy to get the iPhone.
I really don't want to sign another 2-year contract, and if they require the data package like they do with all of their other PDA phones, then I might have to pass. The extra $50 a month would hurt.
I have a feeling like AT&T is going to really abuse the first adopters with a lot of extra plan requirements cause they know you will do anything just to get an iPhone.

Yeah. Let's hope Apple can keep them in check a little. I'm sure Apple doesn't want them to go to harmful extremes, even if AT&T shares the loot.

Since I am locked into a 2-year contract with Verizon (and my father in-law works for them I get a family discount) I will not be purchasing the iPhone as a phone. I am hoping they release a plan I can get my hands on without spending too much or having to have a voice plan...

Again, a poll with a critical missing option or two:
No, undecided about getting one. (This one definitely should have been on the poll.)
No, need to wait for my current contract to expire. (For those not using AT&T currently.)
This is the option that fits best for me for two reasons:
I am unsure if AT&T (until they chanhe the name again) has decent enough service for where I would need to use the phone.
Waiting to see if the iPhone lives up to it's hype. (It probably will.)
And of course as to timing, there is the inevitable Verizon contract that still haas time left on it.

I must be in the minority, but I don't see how requiring a data plan is abuse. Nor signing a new 2 year agreement a evil thing. They do this anytime you want to get a new phone and your contract is not up, or close to being up.

I might get one, but not until the price goes down atleast 100$ if it even will, I think im going to get the Razr2 whenever it comes out, it has 10x faster processor then V1 2 gb of space, 2.0 mega pixel camera (i think) and is even smaller.

I suspect that there is more behind it than signing some contracts. The product being rolled out right now is tailored to the limits of what AT&T can offer across its service area. It would be nice to believe that Apple would tweak the hardware and software to support the features that other carriers can support well.
Anyway, there's no way the fluffy toy would survive my abuses, so I won't be buying one.

I think that I will wait for the 3rd or 4th Gen iPhone. Prefer more memory like 80GB rather the 8GB for albums, audiobooks and movies. I saw the poll. Apple did inform the public not to come to their store looking for the iPhone because AT&T is the exclusive dealer. There will be no iPhone for sale at the Apple Store. hmmm....

The second the internal storage can math that of my iPod, I'm there. (This is meaning I'm going to need an iPhone that is around 60 gb, my current 60 gb iPod is at 28+ gb full, and it grows).

I called my stock broker three times and placed stock purchase orders during Steve Job's March 18th iPhone introduction. With the stock now trading $30 - $35 a share higher, Apple has given me the money to buy as many iPhones as I want. I plan on camping out to buy my iPhones (hope there isn't a limit of one per person), because I've been waiting for years for this thing. I refuse to wait a minute longer - for rev. 2 or whatever. I haven't decided whether I'm going to camp out at the Apple store (which would be like having front row tickets at a Stones concert) or at the AT&T store, which would be like eating Chinese carry out - tasty but leaving me hungry for something more.
I think, therefore iPhone.

After talking for about 2hrs I managed to get a verizon rep to pre-date my early termination from 08/30/07 to 6/30/07. I told him "look I've been a customer for 8 years and I'm just removing 1 line out of 3 to get an iPhone, I paid $399 for my PPC-6600 21 months ago and is there anything you can do to push my date up from 08/2007?" He did.
So now i'll have a new att number for one day until I can port the vzw over the next.
AT&T still wants a deposit from me though.... I got to find out tomorrow at a store how much, the online store won't tell you, neither will tech support.

So I guess it's kinda unnecessary. Also, to answer the question, no I will not camp...I work like all of you do, if you camp out for the iphone and miss 2 days of work then you are being pretty unprofessional. I will buy one when I can walk into a store and buy one.

Being in a college town and having no real Cingular store (there is a kiosk in the mall near us), I am hoping my dad can use his connections or he can just swing by the Apple and Cingular stores just to see if they have any.

I won't buy anything simply because Apple sell it. However I think the iPhone is an incredible technological achievement. I want one to play around with but frankly I hate telephones and never use them if I can avoid it. So I'd never "use" one. But I think they're very cool! :D

Yes but being sick of Microsoft does not equate to having to buy something else. Microsoft suck and that's obvious - but you don't have to camp out to get an iPhone for that even if it's a cool thing to do! :D
