View Full Version : Combining MIDI and Audio Interfaces Simultaneously into GarageBand

Okay, here is my dilemma.

I am going to put drum triggers on the toms, snare and kick of my five-piece drumset and run them into the Alesis Trigger i/O trigger interface, where they will be sent out as MIDI signals to my laptop and then recorded as MIDI files (the reason being that I want to have easily edited recordings for my band's songs). I then, of course, need to record the cymbals (hi-hat, crash, spash, ride), and have decided to close-mic each of these, run them into a mixer, and finally through an M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB audio interface. My question is: Can GarageBand handle both of these interfaces simultaneously? The trigger interface would also be connected to the laptop via USB. Any help?

Also, does my reasoning seem solid with what I endeavor to do?

Pretty complicated setup for Garageband. I'd suggest getting Logic Express. You can edit the midi data much easier/better as well as specify external midi devices and such to any actions in the program.
