Hey everyone. I have a G4 733 tower that I'm thinking of selling. It's in great condition.
Here are the stats:
G4 733Mhz
512 MB
60 GB
SuperDrive
OS + CDs
Any opinions on what I could get or offers?

I'd say $200 is the magic number. It hovers above or below this on ebay depending on the spec's. It's a good machine though with a vast quantity of upgrades.

DVDrom/CDRW combo drive

I'd be willing to trade an Acer Travelmate laptop.
It has a 1 GHz Pentium III processor, 512MB of RAM, a 40GB hard disk drive, 8X DVD-ROM, and a legal COA activated copy of Windows XP Professional w/ SP2.
Is this a Digital Audio or Quicksilver? What kind of video card?

It's a DA.
The RAM is 2 128s and a 256.
I'll get back to you on the video card.
Also, I'm afraid I can't trade for any PCs presently. Sorry.

Without a new ATA or SATA PCI card, the max you can toss into a DA is 137GB on each drive.

Yuck :)
What if I buy a new PCI card?

Err. I dont get it, they're practially the same exact mobo and system, except for a different PSU plug. The mobos are swappable between the two cases. o.O
Of course, the components are probably different, but hey, you can always just swap those out for newer stuff anyway.
DoctorTeeth, yes, it'll work if you buy the card. :)

The 733 processor on the QS lacks L3 cache, making it slower than a 533 MHz DA!

(L2 cache = 256K; no L3 cache)

The 733 MHz processor didn't have the L2 cache...
However...
Quicksilver 2002 models do have large drive support. You can get three drives into one without using a PCI card, which currently means 3TB.
It should be noted that of all the Macs, the Quicksilvers and DAs seem to be the most enduring, in terms of reliability.
I have one which will be for sale in about six weeks.

Where in NC are you located? Which OS is loaded? What are you looking to get for it (approximately)?

The 733 MHz processor didn't have the L2 cache...
The Apple Power Macintosh G4/733 (Quicksilver) features a 733 MHz PowerPC 7450 (G4) processor with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit and 256k "on chip" level 2 cache.
L1 Cache: 64k
L2/L3 Cache: 256k (on chip)
Details: This system has a 256k "on chip" level 2 cache running at processor speed. Unlike the other Power Macintosh G4 "Quicksilver" models, this model does not have a level 3 cache.

I was just out in North Raleigh tonight. I live out near Jordan Lake. Anyway... let me think about it. I don't really need another mac around the house but it sure is tempting. Go ahead and take an offer if you get one in the mean time.
