I'm selling my 12" PowerBook on ebay (UK) but this is the blurb (not yet listed), let me know what you think please:

You are looking at a used 12 inch Apple PowerBook. This is the last revision of the 12" PowerBook model before Apple discontinued it, as it stand this is also the smallest Apple laptop ever. Its specs are as follows:

1.5 Ghz G4 Processor, 1.25 Gigabytes of RAM, 80 5400 rpm hard drive, Geforce FX G05200 with 64 megs of RAM, (Used to drive my 19" DVI monitor (1400 x 900 resolution @ 60Hz) with no problems while under duel screen mode) and the DVD writer/cd writer optical drive. This machine includes the DVI cable for hooking up to larger screens.

This machine also includes an Airport wireless card, G version and Bluetooth. It also has had its battery recently replaced under the Apple exchange program.

Further machine specifications can be found here:

Now onto the damage this machine has incurred:

The sudden motion sensor doesn't work properly. This is how I got it I'm afraid, the machine would crash randomly and I found it was the sensor causing the machine to crash. I turned it off via the terminal, since then the machine has been fine with no problems since.

The latch is slightly stiff to use, but it does work, the lid doesn't jam or anything.

The DVD drive is a strange one, it will copy information off cd's no problem but I cannot burn anything with this drive, looking in the system profile indicates it has "Burn Support" but it won't burn anything. I've tried making a cd with itunes for example and it states the laser isn't powerful enough. I don't know how this came to be but I've mentioned it.

The screen doesn't always receive a signal and will not respond again if it goes blank, it some times needs a reboot in order to operate again. I have taken this to the Apple store and they have pin pointed the problem to being the inverter sending a signal to the screen. As you can see in the picture, the screen is fine, it hasn't cracked or been sat on like other PowerBooks on ebay and it doesn't have any dead pixels. Its simply an issue with the inverter. I have no time or money to fix it and that is why I'm offering it out on ebay, if you win this cheap and get it fixed you've got yourself a bargain 12" PowerBook.

The Apple Store in Manchester, quoted me a price of 200 pounds to fix the inverter and a further 200 pounds to fix the DVD drive. Ways around this if you want to save your pennies is to buy an external monitor and use the PowerBook as a desk bound machine and/or buy an external firewire optical drive. To be honest if I had the cash I would simply fix the inverter.

Bid on this knowing what I have mentioned, I've been honest so as to not cause complications later. However you might find the screen to not be a problem and it'll work fine but I'm letting you know that it doesn't always receive a signal, it needs fixing.

This machine doesn't come with the lovely Apple packaging we all know and love, but it will be sent securely and safe in alternate packaging.THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS MACHINE

There is no buy it now price.

I wouldn't pay that much for a knackered machine, personally, £150 at the most.

Well I'm glad to have asked for advice then. :-)

So basically your looking at £400+ as the repair prices you quoted don't include sorting out the sudden motion sensor / and if by the sounds of it - there is somthing darker at problem here (maybe logic board on the way out) your talking an even more expensive repair bill.

I'd agree with the last poster £150 is a fair price for a 'punt' (gamble) on the powerbook.

A good price for those that can put up with its faults or a worthy chance for those willing to stump up the cash to have it repaired.

How do you come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the motherboard? I still use this laptop 12 hours a day without a hitch.

I personally think its best to sell it rather than put it in the bin, plus I need to spend my time elsewhere for the summer rather than using it to reload facebook and work in Illustrator. I'll actually be without any machine till October.

I also won't be having a "Buy it now" option, there's clearly no need.

It (fairly obviously) seems to me he meant to press the £ sign but hit @ instead, and forgot a 0. So £150.

Funnily enough it wasn't obvious to me, I'm on a US keyboard so I didn't make that connection because I cannot type out the pound symbol.

I said there may be somthing bigger at issue. Please note the precursor 'maybe' in the sentance I posted, therefore it was far from drawing a 'conclusion'

And as someone who is looking to buy - it is somthing that crosses the mind and has a huge baring on the 'to buy or not to buy question' be it presumptuous or not.

Dont shoot the messenger - you asked for feedback, you got it.

I was only asking a question, I wasn't trying to shoot the messenger. There's no need for sarcasm but maybe a bad choice of word on my part.
